Just wanted to give a heads up to all you Megaman Fans (Especially(sp?) Boco lol). Its available at SDA for those who know where that is,if you don't know where that is. Here is a direct link to the page Didnt watch it yet, 1:03 seems a little long tought. It was done in one segment tought , well i'll just stop babbling now... hehe EDIT: Just Finished watching it, looks more like a practice run then anything else, he skips 2 heart containers(the ones in Split Mushroom's Stage and in Jet Stingray's) while he gets all the ones in the other stages, dont remember if there's one in Magma Dragoon's Stage in wich case he misses 3. I understand he didnt want to die while trying to get the one in Jet Stingray's it can be tricky to get. But he did die in that very stage right before the boss room. As for the order i'm not sure it's an optimal one.Plenty of errors in there, but he's only human right? ,that, and the stress of trying not to mess up can make you do weird stuff. Like he got the Big Energy Refill in the Web Spider stage wich isnt on the way to the boss, but its only small stuff, maybe 1sec time loss at best. Getting hit also slows you down and pushes you back too, about 1 second loss there, but with all the hits he took it adds up pretty quick. His Sigma fights were pretty good, but then again Sigma's pretty easy to beat in this one. I'm sure someone will do better, having played the game alot i might step up and try to beat his record. Woah, i think thats the longest edit ever... so what do you guys think?

without rerecording it's very hard to do a perfect run, especially on a long and hard game. you gotto see it from that aspect too.

No excuse for being hit so many times, though. Just as quick to slash them away as it is to get hit, recoil, then dash on by. The voice acting buuuuurned, too. I'd LOVE seeing runs of the Japanese versions, cutscenes intact and all. A 100% run on X4 through X6.... Ah, but I doubt that'll happen. x.x

I know it can be hard to do a "perfect run", but it doesnt seem like he practiced alot. Apparently(sp?), dieing is allowed in Twin Galaxies, but still it doesnt make for an entertaining run. A 100% run is possible no doubt but not with the cut scenes(as it would make the file too big for nothing). You might be surprised somebody might be working on runs for other Megamans, but i doubt you'll see one for X7, god that game sucked.

That time seems a little long. I can't download the video (226 MB is a bit much for my current 56k dialup connection) so I can't estimate the time lost, but I seem to recall being able to finish this game in under 50 minutes with Zero. So either my timing is completely wrong or this guy loses a lot of time.

Well, his one death came in Stingray's stage after, IIRC, grabbing the life upgrade. Plotzes himself right after grabbing it. Aside from that, he takes more than he dishes out, stops to grab life pickups, etc. Jumping over/killing enemies would've taken less time in the longrun, I feel. But then, I'm no expert on the PSX games, since I don't actually have the system and emulating it's a bit dodgy on my old machine. I can emulate, but it takes a lot of fiddling to get anywhere near 100%. ><

Someone on TG also hit sub-60 with Zero on his 3rd try in X4, and that run also included a death. So maybe my sub-50 times were wishful thinking (it's been a while since I played X4) but the game is pretty easy, especially with Zero. I doubt sub-50 is impossible.

Not to mention the fact that rerecording already implemented for Playstation emulators. If I had X4, I'd try it out, definitely. (X3 and X4 are the only ones I'm missing, conveniently enough...)

i remember that every boss had its weakness to a certain weapon however, so far (halfway) he seems to use the generic weapons on each boss, except one. seems he could save quite some time on the bosses also, is it allowed to rerecord per level? or must it be a continous run from start to finish? it takes about a minute or so untill he actually plays he's not very consistent with dashing and jumping... seems to me like he could win some considerable time there (although for a true single run... i guess thats not so easy to do) its nice, but can be improved oh yeah the death was understandable :p but he took the wrong route, as he took a slightly different route the second time.

I noticed this as well and decided to compare two of his re-battles (IE, the 8-teleport-room before Sigma) with similar plays I had recorded. It's not the most accurate comparison, especially since in all 8 of my battles I didn't use boss weaknesses, but... It looks like my Split Mushroom video is 10 seconds faster. The advantage of his method, though, is that it's much much easier not to limp back to the teleporter room... His Jet Stingray fight, though, can definately stand to be improved. My video is half a minute faster. From what I noticed about his video, it seems to me that using the weakness in a speed run makes no sense since it doesn't really damage him enough to make up for the delay. As for the levels, I only watched the first one. I think that purposely getting hit to get through enemies is a good tool, but I don't know if it works for a single enemy (I noticed he did get through 3 enemies by doing that at the end, though). After that level, I just watched the boss fights (hmmm...haven't seen the Sigma fights...)

What would you people think of a video made level by level? I own the PC version, so no rerecording for me, unless I use a PC emulator...

I think a sub-50 run is feasable, there's much to be optimized in that run, also doing it level by level will make it easier to obtain faster times, and easier to calculate the time it took to go trought the level. If you messed you just have to reload your game and restart the level. I highly doubt he even used rerecording since the number of errors are too numerous. Like Gigafrost mentioned most of his boss fights can be optimized i.e Jetstingray and Split Mushroom.

Well from what i've seen while playing the game is that some bosses simply dont have weaknesses against Zero's Weapons. Because some bosses just give you abilities like double jump, a stronger Z-Saber and air-dash. Here's the boss order he used for those want it:
Magma Dragoon (fought with robot suit, dont recall what it is called lol) Cyber Peacock Frost Walrus Web Spider Split Mushroom Jet Stingray Storm Owl Slash Beast

you have to defeat all the bosses twice anyhow... i found it nice how he fought the first boss in the robot suit btw :)

Hello there, I am Dan_ from the TG boards ; The one who got sub-60 min on this game. I recently recorded a new time after not playing this game for a few weeks, and I got around 58 min. There are many mistakes, such as 1 death on the Colonel, and a botched attempt to get the Heart tank on Split Mushroom's level, but other than that, it's a pretty good run. I am planning on sending it in to SDA sometime soon in case you want to see it. Here is the route I take through it. Magma Dragoon w/ robot suit Cyber Peacock Storm Owl Web Spider Split Mushroom Frost Walrus Jet Stingray Slash Beast I have found this to be the quickest route after a little bit of planning. Oh, and it is all recorded in one runthrough, no rerecording or anything like that. Dan

I can't seem to download the run that's posted right now ; stupid fileplanet. Does anyone have a different link, or maybe a torrent file? That would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds good dan, i think your run would flat out beat the other one thats out on the SDA. As for downloading the file dont have any other links but i could send it to you via msn messenger or IRC wichever you prefer, i have fairly decent upload speed(80KiB/s). Looking foward to seeing your run!.

Lately, Radix of SDA has been mirroring all of the available runs on archive.org. Try downloading from there if fileplanet is giving you trouble. http://www.archive.org/movies/details-db.php?collection=speed_runs&collectionid=MegaManX4_SS_10354

You mean with X instead of Zero, don't you?

Zero doesn't have a Variable Weapon System. Instead, he learns techniques from his opponents, more related to how they fight than with what weapons. Because of this, not all bosses have weaknesses, but some techniques are useful against multiple bosses or to make levels easier. So a route by X will generally follow the weakness order, but a route by Zero is more open-ended and could be completely different.

Frost Walrus makes sense with X. With Zero, I start with Jet Stingray, as the level doesn't need anything, the boss is a joke to beat, and the learned skill is useful.

That makes sense. I've always used Frost Walrus's skill on Jet Stingray while playing as Zero, I don't know if this gains or loses time (probably loses time). Next time I play through, i'll need to get better at Stingray so I don't have to use that skill, simply because it probably loses a bit of time. In actuality, though, I don't use the air-dash all that often. I've found that the quickest way to move around is to normal dash, and then at the end of your dash do a jump, so you get the distance you need and also retain the speed of your dash.
