Here is version 2 of my run. I used the same layout of items, because it seems to be the best that I could find so far. A better set may be found, though, since they are random.
  • aims for fastest time
  • uses death as a shortcut
  • manipulates luck
I get the whistle this time in order to bypass a long stretch of road. It also lets me get the toon patrol more often, which causes benny to speed up. Any time I pause when driving is to get the toon patrol to appear behind me - any sooner and they are in front. In general the driving is improved, and avoids all cars whenever possible.
The fight with Doom is improved, and could possibly be even better since he is very random. Pausing one frame can cause him to do something different. During the fight I stop punching him because he moves out of range, and once Eddie stops moving forward when punching he cant get started again without stopping first.
When getting the rattle I have to move up a little, or else its impossible to reach it.
I used the route suggested by Rick, a little modified, as well as his spring shoes trick.
I used FCEU to make this movie

I haven't seen much of it due to the desynch, but I've seen enough. It looks wicked awesome so far, and I'm amazed to see that the death tricks, combined with the other stuff we talked about, knocked off almost a whole minute in the run. Great work, it's got a yes from me, and thanks for the mention. =D

Great job tool23! The movie looked very well done, and I can see that you improved the route quite a lot. I haven't played this game before, but I've seen the movie (the real movie, not this TAS) twice. I really liked the last boss battle, looked very nice. Definite YES vote from me.

/yesvoted The use of the whistle surprised me, to be honest. Didn't even think to try it that way >_<

Why didn't you use the whistle to shortcut across some of the long winding roads? Like around frame 11285 it looks like it's much faster to walk across and use the whistle than it is to drive all the way around. Similarly around 11845 it looks like you can use it there to save even more time, like 20 seconds. I think there are some other places later, too, although you only have 1 more use of the whistle left so you'd have to choose the best one.

Great job, very well done. A yes vote from me for sure. I was suprised you didn't have to buy anything from a store. I loved the pounding you gave Doom.

great idea nitsuja, i forgot about the whistle! an even better place to use it might be around frame 12400 to skip to the section of town with the baseball. or even better yet from an earlier point all the way up to near the baseball. i'll give it a try! i also just realized that i don't need to switch to the whistle when i first get it, which might save a few frames. while i'm at it i can see if i can't improve the doom fight even more and try to give him one continuous pounding. (by the way when i make a new version should i edit this submission, or create a new submission?) edit - I think someone asked about avoiding the toon patrol, and I managed to do it one time, but it was in a weird 3-way collision involving another of the cars on the road, and I think I found it was faster to wait until they were behind me before going.

There's no option to edit your submission movie, just the description, so you'll have to cancel this one and submit a new one.

I think this is what I said about around frame 11845, but I can't tell if there isn't an even bigger shortcut after getting the baseball.

i think thats the biggest one, because after getting the baseball i sill have to get the will on the house on the right, and that isnt too far away, and after that the road doesnt backtrack on itself like at the beginning of the area.

Just outta curiousity, does anyone else get a desynch after getting the spring shoes? It seems like Benny doesn't make it around the corner, and when the toon patrol comes, he turns and drives right into 'em.
