Description:
The controlled character has maximum badluck vs opponents attacks. Sometimes, I slowdown to show you some funny things. Sorry, I don't found any bugs, but the last road (Rainbow Road) is very entertaining to watch ;) There are many good tricks too.
Doing a fast as possible version on this game would be very bad to watch.
Truncated: Due to over-all poor reception from the intended audience, rejecting.
I'm afraid Spacecow and hopper have died from lack of oxygen by now.
Hi,
this really is very, very entertaining to watch. Actually seeing how you do in the third race of the first tournamet made me come here and post this.
I'm not sure of whether it should be published or not tough.
This site centers on perfect and flawless runs. While yours is technically flawless (very, very good (un)luck manipulation), the fluency of the movie certainly is not perfect (which as you said would be boring).
Personally - listening to my gut - I'd say publish and star it.
Looking from the perspective of this site, I'd say: Don't publish as you are doing obvious mistakes (all on purpose, but none the less)...
I voted meh, but my subconscience still thinks this should be published.

I don't care for it. The driver takes a lot of needless damage, and in really unentertaining ways.
Sometimes he just drives into a wall, or misses a jump. Sometimes he falls into the water two, and even three times in a row. I just don't find that entertaining. It looks really unprofessional and unskilled. I enjoy watching people really beat the snot out of games. Even racing games, because it shows off reaction time and skill, which is what you expect from a movie on this site.
This run shows a player using some fantastic shortcuts and awesome skills, which he's forced to do because he makes so many mistakes. Given that there are only 3 laps per race, I don't think that aiming for fastest time would be all that boring. Showing off all the shortcuts you can take would look awesome, and it looks like you could probably lap some of the characters in some races, so you wouldn't necessarily go the whole time without seeing them.
After seeing how much butt you kicked on Rainbow Road, I said to myself, this could be worth a Yes vote if it was shorter. And by shorter, I mean taking less damage. 43 minutes of taking damage, missing jumps and getting owned just doesn't do it for me.
TASing or playing back a DOS game? Make sure your files match the archive at RGB Classic Games.
Was sort of funny to watch, a lot of bouncing and jumping in rainbow road:), but not the kind of run i think should be posted on this site.
But because it was a a little bit entertaining im voting meh.
The best time you have is the time you share with other people.
This does a good job of showing off the game and (in many levels) coming as close as possible to losing without actually losing. But it's closer to how the game is meant to be played normally than it is to being played perfectly, and there's no way to improve or compete with this kind of run when the goals are so unclear. Maybe this should be published as a concept demo or added as a supplement to another run?
For people who haven't played Mario Kart games, the powerups are not given randomly, but depending on your "luck". Ie if you are way out in front and have not made a mistake, you will get crappy powerups (no speed boosts/invincibility). If you crash/bump/etc, the game will give you good powerups - which is what Genisto is doing when he is crashing at the start of some of the races. That way the game gives you speed boosts and other good items, which allow a lot of shortcuts you wouldn't get if you just raced round on your own every lap. It would be an incredibly dull run if Genisto didn't do this. I love the "drama" of coming from 8th place to finish 1st - great run! :)
I haven't watched it yet so I don't know how good it is, though you might want to take a look at some of these vids to see if there are any tricks you didn't know about:

I'm confused, what's the point of this TAS? After watching the first 3 races I decided it's an obvious no vote and I got very little entertainment from it.
Edit: Btw I see people saying that Rainbow Road was good, I'm too lazy to watch that far, was it better than in the vid at the link I posted?
i thought this was great to watch and got lots of enjoyment out of it. the bad luck that strikes toad and yoshi almost makes me feel sorry for them lol. however that said the bad luck does get annoying at times when i just wanted to scream OMG JUST FINISH THE RACE ALREADY! as said, it isn't fast as possible and i liked it a lot. should be published for the entertainment value alone
I don't know what you people are talking about, it wasn't entertaining. If I want to see someone crashing and falling off the track, I can just do that without save states. If you want to see good Super Circuit vids, watch the vids at the link I posted. They're much better and as far as I know they were done without save states, so if you're gonna TAS that game then at least make it better than those vids.

Yeah, I didn't really find this very entertaining, either. The close calls are nice, but all of the crashes just seem sorta sloppy. I know it's done on purpose and it would be boring to be going for pure speed, but it's almost aggrivating to watch purposeful mistakes when everything else on the site is supposed to be played perfectly.
EDIT: Rainbow road really was awesome, though. :)
It's the only way I found to entertain you in this kind of game:
If I never crash and follow the path at full speed, I will never be able to attack the others (except by the back), it would be borring to watch because we would see only the player following his way and be the 1st in the whole movie. I managed to crash to prevent that.
About back attacks: did you know what was happening with the bananas I dropped at the beginning of the final lap in the second track of Lightning Cup (Sky Garden)? I don't know myself lol.
Hi,
exactly my thinking.
Seeing you get screwed all over the place - partially in ways impossible to achieve without slowdown/rerecord and then shooting one or two impossibly well-targeted green shells at seemingly random places just to hit all those suckers via countless bounces on the wall is just priceless to watch - at least when you have played the game as much as I did.
Some bumps/crashes seem sloppy though.
In that track where it's evening and getting night over the laps - with the indians on the track, you once bump into a rock. That was IMHO completely avoidable and had no influence what so ever on the race. Another one is the fall in the first (or was it the second) ghose house track. Why fall after those speedups? There must be more original ways of getting your ass kicked.
I recommend trying not to fall off the track as Lakitu pulling you out is very boring and disturbing in the flow of the movie. I'm sure there must be other ways for getting behind. Maybe race one lap backwards, then catch up?
I stand by my 'meh' vote: Good concept, good playing, entertaining, but not really for this site as it's nowere near a TA. Still: It shoudl be published - maybe once you clean out those fluency problems I was pointing out - unless of course you can explain those.

This movie reminds me a lot of the old Gradius run on the site. Shows that you don't have to rely on speed alone to make something entertaining. Yes vote from me.
This movie is REALLY hard to judge. On the one hand it is very entertaining to watch (at least, I thought so) and Genisto makes great use of all the games nuances where he can, and STILL manages to come in first. But on the other, it is simpley an entertainment only movie, and the problem is the fact entertainment isn't something that can be 'measured' like time or item collection. If it's accepted it could never be obsoleted, since entertainment value is subjective.
So, I'll hold off on voting entirely, since I'm not really sure HOW to vote.
What happened to the "must beat all existing records" rule? All the tricks that Genisto did are in the non-save state vids, and the non-save state vids have more tricks in addition to that, and were also more skillfully played. The only thing "better" about Genisto's vid was the boring crashes that make it look like it was done by a first time TASer who didn't realize he's supposed to be using save states.
with the current rules, i doubt this one will get published as its not fast as possible. i think there should be a section for pure entertainment value games. much like hacked games
