Hey, the backwards walking does work in this game! But you have to remember to turn on Left+Right in Input->Joypad Configuration.

yep, but its slower than running.. but it would benefit the speed in SMB3 tho -_-

megaman, that part you've posted, i think you should do something like this (but optimize it^^): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/270/Super%20Mario%20All-Stars%20%2BWorld%20-%20megaman.smv well.. i made a test, and backjump is actually saving something around 7 frames.. also.. you are using an overdumped rom "[o1]".. look for a verified good dump "[!]" ^^

thats alot better, but it has bunch of spots that could use improvement here and there. I dont know what did you just do with jump springer o_0. by the way, replay went all the way without desync on (U) [!] version

you have improved alot megaman^^ but there are some mistakes imho: you've lost something around 90 frames before the game begin.. (tested) is it worthy to get those mushrooms to lose later? (i think its obvious that it doesnt worth, but untested) isnt it faster if you jump low on the mast? (untested) consider using fast acceleration trick, and [!] rom version (tested, its saving something around 7 ~ 8 frames) in the first pipe of 1-2 you should jump lower.. and i think that after it you can glitch by jumping into the wall o.o and later, if you can get to the roof you could save some good seconds o.o (untested) i think that if you dont use the second spring [and maybe even the first] you should save some time o.o (untested, but at least the second is visibly faster if you go through the ground) ps: sorry if there's any grammar errors.. i.i ps2: SMB nesvideos glitchs+tricks page: http://tasvideos.org/SuperMarioBrosTricks.html

It doesn't matter how high on the flagpole you grab, the flag always needs to go all the way to the bottom.

wait.. i want to know.. you know how to display your movie's current frame, right? did you check the nesvideos guidelines page? its important.. well, try to criticize yourself.. use different movements/paths and compare to see which one is the faster by looking to your frames.. plan your movie, your paths, available glitchs and tricks for this game, do each part of the game comparing what movement is faster, be sure of it, and go on.. i'm sure your next try will be much better^^

Just screwing around on 1-1 trying things out at 49% speed, I got to the edge of the first pit (right after the first 2 pipes) and got there at around 387, whereas you got there at 384.. I pushed left (optimized, it'd be one frame) just long enough to face left and then jump, maintaining right velocity, so when I landed on the pipe it'd be at a manageable speed to keep going right (otherwise I just skidded into that stupid plant) and I didn't have to stop. Edit: I'll try some other things and try to see if I can get that time down some. I can try to replicate it if you want an smv.. Edit2: And it appears that you don't even need to turn around. I'd never have the patience to make a TAS, so I'm done.

If you mean that first pipe with a pirana comming up from it, as far as i remember you can jump over it with luigi if you jump from those ? blocks, but i dont think its possible to get over using mario.

Wow, where did that come from? Your run looks very well played. Things I noticed that may be improvable (not sure, I don't know the game too well) 1) Killing Bowser with Firepower may be quicker than hitting the axe to break the bridge. 2) Some places where you jumped onto a high block (8-3 for example), you lost momentum by running into the block before getting on top of it. This may be avoidable by getting an earlier running start to jump earlier, which may be faster (I didn't test anything though). 3) In one of the levels, you delayed hitting the flagpole for a second. Are there fireworks or something similar in this game? 4) There is a different way to accelerate in the NES/FDS versions of Mario, by jumping backwards. I don't know if it's possible and/or faster in this version or not. But those are minor observations - overall this looks very good. I hope you have the time to finish it!

hmm overall seems ok, there were places that i doubt it could be done faster, maybe its only my impression^^ and i have some questions.. in 1-2 jumping in the box before the end, didnt it cost you some frames? in 7-3 falling directly in another springer would make you lose speed or something? and the most important.. where is the backjumping trick? i.i it is saving some frames.. almost whenever you are not in the max speed it could save you lots of frames..

Thanks for the comments.

Oh just watched nes version and it seems to save a lot of time.

yeah i noticed that too, i do it better next time
3) In one of the levels, you delayed hitting the flagpole for a second. Are there fireworks or something similar in this game?
yes. in levels 1-2, 5-3 and 8-2 i got to lose 1 timeunit to avoid fireworks(saved some frames).
4) There is a different way to accelerate in the NES/FDS versions of Mario, by jumping backwards. I don't know if it's possible and/or faster in this version or not.
ok thanks i try it
in 7-3 falling directly in another springer would make you lose speed or something?
i need fall it with good speed to get longer jump... but i think this part can be improved.
But those are minor observations - overall this looks very good. I hope you have the time to finish it!
yeah i try to.

yeah^^ if you decrease the speed before reaching the next springer, then accelerating to the max before falling, wouldnt it work?!^^

Nobody said that. If you think you can do better, go ahead and try again, otherwise maybe you should try working on a different game.
