Anyone heard of this? It's a pretty interesting game...you play in various levels where you have to grab a bunch of blue switches in order to unlock the exit, and you also are in a sort of "overworld" where you need to push blocks and turn off force fields in order to advance. There are 25 floors in the game (00 through 24), and each has 4 levels (plus some have bonus levels). This makes over 100 levels total in the game...but it turns out that you have to beat VERY few of them to actually win the game! See, there are a lot of level warps in this game, some which move you ahead and others which move you backward. They are found by grabbing a question mark in a level and entering an orange door that appears. Most of these are actually necessary for the completion of the game, including one backwards one. The reason for this is that some floors are dead ends; you need to use the warps to avoid them. In addition to this, most floors can be beaten without needing to complete any levels. You start out next to the exit on almost every floor, and most of the time you can just go into that exit without needing to do anything. The force fields, however, are what keep you from doing this for the whole game. There are a couple which guard floor exits, and some more which guard the levels with warps. There are two ways to turn them off, both of which are found in the levels: Keys, and bombs. With a key you just walk through the field and it disappears; with a bomb you must wait 3 game seconds for it to blow up the field. Thus, keys are preferable for speedrunning. Note that whenever you go through a warp, you lose all of your bombs and keys. So, as you can see, this is a very complex game. However, I have done the work of planning out a route. There is an issue here: My route involves many, many deaths, as that saves a TON of time in this game (your start with 4 lives, and there are many extras, so I can afford to use this often). For anyone interested, here is that route: 1. Go to the level in the lower-right corner of Floor 00, grab the key, then commit suicide (press Select). 2. Repeat #1. 3. Exit Floor 00. 4. Use a key and exit Floor 01. 5. Exit Floor 02. 6. Exit Floor 03. 7. Exit Floor 04. 8. Exit Floor 05. 6. Use a key for the force field in the upper part of Floor 06, then enter the level in the upper-left corner. 7. Warp to Floor 10. 8. Enter the level in the lower-middle part of Floor 10. 9. Grab the bomb in this level, then kill yourself (falling is faster than Select). 10. Exit Floor 10. 11. Move up before the force field in Floor 11 activates. Then, plant a bomb right by it and move up to avoid the explosion. 12. Exit Floor 11. 13. Exit Floor 12. 14. Exit Floor 13. 15. Exit Floor 14. 16. Enter the level in the center-ish part of Floor 15. 17. Grab the 1-up (heart icon) in this level, then grab the key and kill yourself with Select. 18. Use that key to unlock the force field at the bottom of Floor 15. Enter the level it guards. 19. Warp to Floor 20. GRAB THE EXTRA LIFE BEFORE YOU DO SO! 20. Enter the rightmost level in Floor 20. 21. Warp to Floor 23. 22. Enter the room closest to your starting point on Floor 23. 23. Grab one key, then fall into the pit to kill yourself. 24. Go clockwise around the level, and use the key to get through the force field in your way. Then enter the level in the lower-left corner. 25. Warp to Floor 21, grabbing the extra life directly in your path. 26. Exit Floor 21. 27. Enter the level closest to your starting point on Floor 22. 28. Warp to Floor 24, again grabbing the extra life along the way. 29. Enter the upper-right level in Floor 24. 30. Grab the key and press Select. 31. Enter the lower-right level in Floor 24. 32. Grab the key and press Select. 33. Use the keys on the two force fields to the left, then enter the level they guard. 34. Make it all the way to the left end of the level, and slide your way to an incredibly lame ending! I made a legit speedrun on VirtuaNES showing this route (except for one thing on Floor 15 which I didn't think of until after the run). If anyone has the American rom of this game and VirtuaNES 0.92, I can e-mail the VMV file to you if you're interested. The time is about 9:40 or so, there are many obvious and stupid errors but it should still be watchable. -Josh

As to why I don't do a timeattack on this...well, I don't have Famtasia. Didn't Bisqwit say something about it not being freeware? And with VirtuaNES, I haven't figured out how to get slow-motion. Sorry if I have any stupid issues here... -Josh

He said that it was not "free", as in you can't modify or even access the source code and do whatever you want with it. Its monetarily free though.

Alright, now that I know how, I will do a timeattack for this game. It'll be a nice change of pace from Castle of Dragon, as it has roughly zero random factors that I'm aware of... -Josh

First version done, 7:54 is the time. The movie desyncs in the middle, but I don't really care yet as there are a few clear improvements to make. Very low number of rerecords, which I don't see changing...there are a couple difficult jumps to perform but absolutely no random factors at all. -Josh

Alright, second version of this is done, with about a 2-second improvement. There really isn't much to this game...it's mainly impressive to those who know how gargantuan the game is. -Josh

Are you submitting your most recent version to Bisquit? Or can you post the .fmv here? I'd love to see it :)

If you're in the mood to watch a really bad game played quickly, then watch this. This movie was made for fun with no intention of being submitted. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5224/dashgalaxy.fcm The object of this game, normally, is to clear a room by picking up all the switches (beer can-like objects) to open the door again. This will make the door in the main lobby room close. Once all four doors are closed, you can enter the elevator to go to the next floor. However, this game is so bad that you can beat it without clearing a single level. This game has godawful physics. For a character named "Dash", this guy runs awfully slow. He also has to come to a complete standstill after every jump. Most jumps are done in increments of distance, so precise jumping is not even needed most of the time. The other huge flaw with this game is that it's a huge labyrinth. If you were to play through normally, you'd get to level 9 or so before being locked in (the elevator disappears!) and you have to take a warp all the way back to level 3! You would have missed the warp on level 7, and from there, the game is just a huge maze of warps. Awful design tactic. This movie runs through the maze of warps as fast as possible, never completing a single level.

I did a search on the forum and I found that Josh the FunkDOC did some running of this game a long time ago. I didn't find any of his movie files, but it looks like my route was a lot faster than his. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=303 Edit: Except for one thing. It looks like getting the bomb on floor 15 is much faster than getting it on floor 10. Oops.

I dunno... I found it enjoyable. But maybe I just have a thing for tricking badly-designed games into doing what you want.

I personally think there's just not enough entertainment value here to merit being submitted.
