So far we have Super Demo World: TLC, and AIR (SMB1 hack) published, and 2 or more Hack TAS's are being working on. Publishing thing seem to worked out well, but there are few things that problem can come up. 1. Author of a Hack find out that someone is doing a TAS on his/her Hack. He/She will return to modify the Hack, release new one and remove an old patch? (beside graphic/palette change) 2. TASer working on a TAS on his/her own Hack and none of us knew about it? (such as author of a Hack knew a secret shortcut and thing like that) I had a thought of third problem, but I don't know how to word it... My thoughts on solution for these are: 1. Include IPS patch (along with Hack's movie) to submission too. 2. I don't know about this one =|, but I think best way to do it is show a complete game run before submitting (show every path in the Hack.) ... Thoughts?

Hacks are allowed only on special permission. I think this solves most problems. Genisto didn't ask about Air beforehand, but I accepted it after careful consideration by looking at the game and its homepage in detail. But what Genisto did is not endorsed in general.

I think if you're asking about what the long term drawbacks to hacked game running are, I would say that once we open the floodgate on hacked roms, games like Final Fantasy 6 and Secret of Mana will suddenly fall to the bottom of the stack (in terms of what people will speedrun). Still, that's just my fear of accepting hacked games in general. Besides that, one real concern is probably the opinion of people like me: That I would vote 'no' for the run even after watching it "just because it's a hack".
