What is levitation and DMD and how do they work?

Levitation glitch is (I think) when you press the A button on alternate frames to repeatedly activate and deactivate the pegasus boots, while moving, which lets you walk over bottomless pits without falling in (because the game forgets to check if you should fall when the boots are activating). All it takes to do it on a real SNES is an autofire controller, and it doesn't involve glitching out the game and taking you to weird areas. But I'm actually not sure if it's wise to use this in this run if you're planning on calling it "glitchless" because it sure still looks like a glitch. Death mountain descent glitch involves exploiting an off-by-one-pixel error going between the light world and dark world which lets you go off the edge of where you're supposed to be able to go from death mountain, and walk directly south from death mountain to transition into the cemetary, which I think lets you skip a good portion of the game. (I'm not exactly sure how it should best be used, supposedly you can skip the moon pearl and master sword, but one could argue that you might as well skip the whole rest of the game if you're going to skip such required parts of it.)

I'm no longer planning on calling it glitchless. Just eliminating the game breaking glitches.

Well using the levitation glitch you will probably want to look into changing TSA's route. There has to be SOMEWHERE that you can go early without having the hookshot that would save time.

The Ice Palace. And that's what I changed, so I can get the gold sword faster. EDIT: Stealth Update, because I hate double posting even though I am a consumate attention whore. The key isn't boomerangable -_-; I spent an hour trying to hook it in midair as it was falling down before I discovered this. Thanks for the laser tip. ^_^ The Big Key room you can't manipulate the time that those bowling balls spawn, they seem to spawn on set frames, (like the Chucks in Tubular where Viper had to wait nearly a half a second outside the level in his first run through.) Erm... yeah, not much for nearly a week. But I'm still alive. I swear.

For some reason reading that word made me chortle with delight. I am going to see if I can use that in conversation some time this week. It's a shame there was no way around the first antlion (the sand trap monster thing). Otherwise its looking pretty good... are you going to try to force enough drops so you can skip the chest in the village of outcasts? You are certainly making good economy so far.

You didn't die to save time. Is it a concious choice or did you forget? Stealthedit: I hate stealthedits. I almost missed this update.

I forgot. *shrug* I was too busy trying to get the key on the boomerang. About skipping a chest, I don't think I'll be able to collect another 410 rupees. I'll test the chests in the Dark World to see how many frames it takes to collect them both vs. only one. Because that's alot of drops and so far I've averaged around 5 frames slower per drop.

I believe gambling is faster than going out of your way to get chests. I'm talking about the gambling game in the lost woods, which is on your way to getting the master sword.

It's not that far out of the way though, I have to go to Dark World Kakariko for Dungeon 4. And that's 300 rupees each. So it really is a toss up. (Unless the gambling game gives you more than I thought)

It depends on how many rupees you have when you enter the lost woods. It costs 100 to play, and you can win 300 in the best chest. So that's a 200 rupee profit each time. Assuming you have 100, you'd only have to do it a couple times to accumulate 500 rupees.

But keep in mind that (as far as I can tell, as a rough estimate) it takes about 700 frames each time you gamble. About the last update: A few of the pegasus dashes were over really short distances or over mostly stairs - did you test each one to make sure they were actually faster than just walking?

Sprinting is faster in a straight line if it goes at least 3 Link lengths. If you have to do two Dashes at 90 degree angles then one of the two must be at least 4 Link lengths, (assuming there is nothing preventing your from moving diagonally) for sprinting to be faster. Stairs aren't included in the Length (obviously). But it's a surprisingly short distance.

How far have you made it yet? When do you think it will be submitted?

I'm currently trying to optimize the 2nd boss. But I may have to do redo the second half of the dungeon pending some time tests with the gambling game and the chest collecting that I've not had time to do yet. I expect it to be released when it's done. And not a moment before.

... and what about death in 2nd palace? If you're redoing it anyway I mean.

*nod* I'll redo that as well. Might as well. No real reason keeping me from it.

Good. I guess I just really want to see you dead. :D >I expect it to be released when it's done. Ah. We can expect it at the same time as the next Duke Nukem game then? I heard that's also going to be released when it's done. (I'm sorta bored and this is my way of having fun.)

I figure i'd just start a new thread for this, since the other thread seems to be about omni's run, and I wouldn't want to steal his thunder there. Anyway in the past five weeks I've been working on this game in secret and have produced my first run. Consider this to be a test run, i don't consider it to be nearly good enough to submit for publication. some notes on it - Time is 1:46:48 (to the end of the triforce conversation) this met my goal of "somewhere under 2 hours" but believe me when I say It will get much faster the 2nd time around - That's 384480 frames - 5252 re-records - Dark world dungeons done in this order: 1, 4, 3, 2, 6, 5, 7, 8 - played mostly at 140ms or 300ms switching items and other menu stuff done at 500ms - this is a NO HIT run. there are PLENTY of places where it would have been faster to get hit. however I don't like that aesthetically speaking, I think some of the dodging and bucking/weaving I do looks much cooler than watching link get hit every time it's conveinant. I won't do a run for this game where I take damage, I know omni is doing a damage run, and his will most likely be faster, I'm aiming for no-hit though, it looks cool Major mistakes I will fix in the next run - I collected 2 bottles. why? "seemed like a good idea at the time" I knew you need one magic potion for trinexx, I thought another one would speed up the kholdestare battle. However I didn't need it, and the time it took to get the bottle wasn't worth it. - Ice wand I got right before level 2. Later I reflected it will be faster to save it for before level 5, since I can get it and then just jump in the lake. - Too damn many rupees collected in level 1 - A ghastly pause after collecting the pegasus boots. - I think I may be able to skip getting the mirror sheild some minor notes - In some places where i'd have to make a "round trip" or visit the same area twice I used different routes. (eg: the forest, the desert palace, death mountain) I plan to determine which is faster and then stick to it. - Dashing will be completely optimized in the next one, and walking through doors also (link likes to bump into doorways. I plan to do this again (after a break) completely frame by frame - the blind battle could be a bit faster - I got better at switching items as I went along so near the beginning it's not perfect, it will be next time. There's other stuff, but I can't think of it right now. I plan to do some preperation for the next version by watching TSA's stuff, see if i can learn anything (i've never seen his run, decided to go into this "fresh" and see how fast i can do it) One thing I'm pretty much completely satisfied wth is the order of the dungeons, I put a LOT of thought into that. anyway here's the link http://dreamtheater.roofles.org/zelda3NecroVMX.smv I used the "improved" snes9x and the english ROM image. Please remember, this is my FIRST run EVER. so be gentle! I know it has some parts that are a bit sloppy but like i said, it's a test. the next version, i'll be aiming for perfection. comments welcome be gentle.

Necro, you should post in the same LTTP thread. But hey, there's nothing wrong with multiple people going for a run, it can only be a good thing. I'll be watching this later for sure. Good luck on the optimization.

You shouldn't need any magic potions for the Trinexx fight.

i'm curious to now how to do it without them. if there's a way, i'm not knowing it, because even with half magic enabled it takes more than just one magic meter to take off both heads.
