Now there's a speed run for this game that you can download from planetquake's speed demos archive. It's not the world record, but it's still pretty fast. Right now I'm downloading the first of three parts.

And the wait time is only 54 minutes! (peak hours not included) :P But yes, registration is free, and if you can find something else to do for 30 minutes, you'll be fine.

That's strange, when I downloaded the videos the wait time was little, maybe only a minute for each one.

Same, and they went at 400 KB/sec.

http://mailinator.com/ is a superb free service for avoiding giving away your true email address to dubious places in the internet. How does it work? When a webpage or whatever requires a working email address (eg. to send you a password), just give it an address like whatever@mailinator.com (where "whatever" can really be whatever; you should remember what you put there, though). Then go to http://mailinator.com/ and look for emails sent to the 'whatever' user. (The server keeps the emails sent to that user for a couple of hours or something like that.) This is a truely superb service because it's so easy to use and very secure. You don't need to register nor reserve some fixed name or whatever at mailinator.com (any name will do) and there's no risk of your personal information getting to the wrong hands because mailinator.com doesn't ask any personal information at all. (Naturally anyone can see the emails sent to the "user" you entered the email address for, at least if they happen to try the same user name, but you shouldn't use this service for very private matters anyways.) I have been using it regularly and I recommend it to everyone.

That's not the point. It's not about personal information. It's of the trouble the user has to go through to get what he wants. I'm not willing to jump through hoops.

Thanks for the word about Mailinator, I'll try that sometime. Of course, I can't help but wonder how long it will take before sites no longer accept Mailinator addresses. Personally, I maintain a few Yahoo addresses that only serve to screen out SPAM.

hmm..i downloaded all 3 parts to the vid, no wait times, ~300KB/s each interesting video, i like how the player went directly to all of the dungeons. ive never been able to do that. i would always visit other places, or look for the people who tell you where to go first. i assumed you had to speak to them first...

Is anyone interested on planning a route for this game? It won't be for a time attack of course since the appropriate software is currently unavailable, but I believe the optimal route for a speedrun may yet to be discovered. After reviewing TSA's video, and refreshing my memory on many aspects of the game, I believe that although the game is longer than LoZ, we can find the optimal route if enough people are willing to work on it. In addition, it would help prepare for a time attack video once rerecording in SNES emulation becomes available.

OK, I guess Zsnes IS coming out with re-record ... but why not jsut do a speedrun?? Is there that much need for savestates/replays? Oh, and as for planning... I could help, as that is one of the games I remember spending hours in the stores with.

TSA told me that he actually wants us to do an ALttP time attack. It could lead to discoveries of tricks that would assist in speedruns of the game. Exactly how much time can be saved I'm not sure, but first we must devise the route.

http://planetquake.com/sda/other/lttp.html This site has one of TSA's current runs. He says the route isn't the best, so looking for improvements from this route could be a start.

Here's a quick outline I've made of TSA's route in his public video: Light World 1.Sewers 2.Sword 3.Hyrule Castle 4.Boomerang 5.Lamp 6.Eastern Palace 7.100 Rupees from dungeon chest 8.Bow 9.Pegasus Shoes, 100 rupees and bombs from Sahasrahla's room. 10.Book of Mudora 11.Desert Palace 12.Power Glove 13.Mirror 14.Tower of Hera 15.Moon Pearl 16.Master Sword 17.Hyrule Castle Tower Dark World 18.110 rupees to Kiki 19.Palace of Darkness 20.Magic Hammer 21.Shovel 22.Flute 23.Play the Flute to Kakariko wooden bird 24.300 rupees (chest in Village of Outcast) 25.Blind's Hideout 26.Titan's Mitt 27.Rescue blacksmith's partner 28.Tempered Sword (-10 rupees) 29.Skeleton Forest 30.Fire Rod 31.Quake Medallion 32.Zora's Flippers (-500 rupees) 33.Ether Medallion 34.Ice Rod 35.Flooded Palace 36.Hook Shot 37.Misery Mire 38.Cane of Somaria 39.Ice Lake Cavern 40.Blue Mail (why?) 41.Big Bomb (-100 rupees) 42.Silver Arrows 43.Golden Sword 44.Turtle Rock 45.Mirror Shield 46.Tower of Ganon 47.Pyramid of Power The routes within the dungeons would have to be planned as well since they are much more vast than LoZ. The game becomes a lot less linear once you enter the Dark World, so the order of the dungeons needs to be optimized. Keep in mind that this isn't TSA's fastest route, it is just the one in the SDA video. A couple mistakes already stand out to me, like getting the Blue Mail and some imperfect routes in the dungeons costing a few minutes, but I'm sure TSA is already aware of that now since his fastest time is 1:42:17.

This is the fastest route possible. Hyrule Castle Save Zelda Sanctuary HC East Palace (100 rupees) Pegasus Boots + 100 rupees Book of Mudora Desert Palace Tower of Hera Master Sword Hyrule Castle 2 Palace of Darkness Get Flute Thieves’ Town 300 rupee house Tempered Sword Get Bird Warp Warp to Link’s House and go to Hyrule Castle Get Quake Warp to Light World Get Zora’s Flippers Warp to Death Mountain to get Ether Warp to Ice Cave to get Ice Rod Warp to Spot 6 Misery Mire (After getting two keys in that room, magic mirror back to start – go to big key room). Warp to Light World Bird Warp to 3 Skull Woods (Use Cane of Somaria tricks) Light World Warp Bird Warp to Link’s House Dark World Warp Swamp Palace Light World Warp Bird Warp Lake Hylia Dark World warp Ice Palace Super Bombs Silver Arrows/Golden Sword Bird Warp Death Mountain Turtle Rock Ganon’s Tower I should note: Switching Skull Woods and Swamp Ruins is a possibility. Having the hookshot in Skull Woods could result in some more trick exploitations.

Does anyone know of somewhere I could get a map of the ALttP overworld? That would make it easier for me to think about routes.

try getting one here. I'm still looking for good detailed maps of Dark World dungeons though, like the Light World ones found here. Btw, do you have irc? It would help in discussing routes on there.

those look a little grainy, and they don't show locations of small keys, enemies, or treasures. A map made with actual screenshots like the ones on zelda-infinite.com would be a little easier to read.
