Icy, you need snes9x improved edition (located in the SNES9x forum directory), the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past ROM, and Omni's smv file. This can all be located here.

OMNI, your power slides in the Tower of Hera are rediculous. Is that possible in the real SNES game?

Another quick question. My SNES9x doesn't seem to want to let me press UP and DOWN at the same time. How to I activate it so I can???

It's a modified version which for now you can get here. I don't know why that topic's locked now, but hopefully some of it will get into one of the next actual releases of Snes9x anyway. (I've just been prioritizing VBA since it didn't even have accepted re-recording support for any games.)

Also, the U+D and L+R limitation is disabled from the Joypad Configuration. In any case, this run has been neat to watch. I agree that the twice-through strategy would be good. You'd possibly burn out if you kept restarting whenever you discovered something...

To get to the master sword don't use the top right entrance to the woods, it is much faster to enter it from the bottom right. If there are mistakes further back I will wait till your done before pointing them out, because they could only be discouraging and this game is so long. I have watched the run so far, and overall it is very good. My only advice is to play around with paths a little more to make sure you choose the fastest. The only real mistakes I have seen are just that.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

I'm just letting it be known that if anyone finds any mistake, no matter how minor (2 frames? 1 frame? 1 pixel? Doesn't matter), I would like to know about it as soon as possible. Right now my catalogue of known mistakes are as follows: 4418: Didn't throw the bush at first possible instant. 5208: I clip the door on my way out. (0 frames, but cosmetic) 6000: Poke last bush. 6808: Luck manipulation pause. 8047: Didn't jump down at first possible moment. 12105: Didn't turn at chest. 13619: Possible to jump down? 14681: Didn't jump down at first possible moment. 14990: Looks like I slow down here, find out why. 17104: Is diagonal on stairs and orthagonal on flat faster than vica versa? 18127: Luck manipulation pause 18505: Must wait for snake 18847: Is this the best way? 18998: Didn't turn at chest. 19571: Is there a speed difference in the water, if so is it faster to go diagonally in it rather than on land? 20606: Wait for boomerang, is there a quicker way. 20985: Is it possible to manipulate those bats? 21805: Possible to avoid this text box too? 22075: Looks like I slow down at this door too? Why? 23478: Can reset faster. 23919: Didn't jump with A, try jumping at the diagonal instead. 24990: Is it possible to manipulate this guy up and away? I lose 2 frames here. 27104: How about *not* collecting the green rupee? 27730: I lose speed at this door too. 28960: Get pot? 29816: Cosmetic uplift, get closer to the pot before going down. 31130: See if I can't kill the skeleton with the pot without losing time. 32560: Didn't turn at chest. 32730: Diagonal on stairs? 33600: Grab both arrows faster here than other places? 34900: Again with the diagonal on stairs question. 34616: Manipulate item drops with Tangelas. 36489: Manipulate only the 4 right ones for drops. 37423: Faster boss strategy. 41710: Walk then jump with A 42864: Path error 44800: I run through water, looks slower. 45700: Maximize running on the diagonal time. 47571: Manipulate that guy away. 49684: Manipulate the last up and to the left, go on the left side of the top right statue instead. 54871: Manipulate the Tangela on top down. Get more money in this room, back up from the door before it opens, Link does have slight accelaration. 57324: Try to get better spawn placement. That was hell to deal with. And I lost 12 frames from the sword swipe. 63517: I lose a frame at these rocks, manipulate them. 64492: Path error. 65488: Dash up here. 65500: Path error. 66862: Optimize this, (7 frames) 69615: Optimize this, (2 frames) 72553: Have enemy interrupt pick up animation (~11 frames) 73160: Test this better. 73289: Best way? 74000: Manipulate Moldorm down more, dash to jump down faster. 77777: Path error. So yeah. I know I have a lot of work. And I'd like to know as much as possible.

If you have to move sideways, it is faster to do it while going up stairs than anywhere else, so I think at 17104 you got it exactly right.

Hmm... they seem to have begun releasing LttP maps at vgmaps.com (YEY!) That, along with the two maps of the sub levels, and I can make maps for everything. So, I'm entering a planning phase, very detailed, I'm going to decide where I'm going to go, which pots I'll take, which enemies I'll kill, what I'll get from them, when and where and how I change items, when and where I dash or hookshot, when I get hit and why, how many bombs/arrows/rupees/magic/hearts I'll have when and where, etc, etc. The only thing I'm leaving to chance is how I kill the enemies, because I can't simulate that with a map, but for everything else I'm going to cross all the bridges now, so I don't look like a dummy when I cross the wrong one the wrong way. It also looks as if my path through the dungeons will be: 1 2 4 6 3 5 7 or 1 4 2 6 3 5 7 pending testing.

It's faster to get the tempered sword first. I always go with 1 4 2 6 3 5 7 first to get the sword. Then hookshot to make things easier (and faster). But I'm not sure which dungeons you must first complete to get the Golden Sword. I get it before going to Turtle Rock. But 1 4 6 2 3 5 7 is possible too with that crash-jump thing over the chasm in the Mire, but does the cane make other dungeons faster? I don't think so.

Ice palace, you use it to trip the final switch instead of using a block from the floor above.

>Ice palace, you use it to trip the final switch instead of using a block from the floor above. Duh, is that how you are *supposed* to do it? I always thought it was an evil gamedesigner's plot to force you to do the dungeons in an order other than the expected. Especially since you don't need the item in the Ice palace to beat the next one.

I know that, but I always go Ice Dungeon last... err, before going to the Turtle Rock of course. So I have the cane always with me by then.

The cane has no use to my knowledge in dungeon 2, but the hookshot speeds things up a little in 6. However, the cane has use in 3 and saves around 10 seconds. But, I haven't tested 6 with the firerod yet. Titan's Mitt has no real use in 2, Tempered Sword does though. The hookshot is perhaps useful in 4. But I'll probably do 1 4 2 because 2 is far out of the way and quicker to get there with the bird.

"But I'll probably do 1 4 2 because 2 is far out of the way and quicker to get there with the bird." It's no faster to get there with the bird, as you walk past Link's house anyway after dungeon 1. The reason it isn't a good idea to do it straight after dungeon 1 is the flippers are required, and they are miles out of the way, and you're best to wait until you have the bird and the 300 ruppee chest in town before picking them up. Unless you can find some glitch that lets you walk across water, I can't see doing dungeon 2 early being worthwhile.

no, you are incorrect. The way it was designed is for you to use the block from the upper floor. That method is also described in the " secrets book" that comes packed with the game. The puzzle was too complicated for some people so word got out that you should use the cane instead. They wouldn't label it dungeon 5 if you needed to complete dungeon 6 before it, even nintendo isn't so evil.

Does Cane have any potential used as a weapon? And I think the big bomb appears in the bombshop after you clear dungeons 5 and 6 ? So perhaps they'll become a priority? 1 4 2 6 5 3 7 ? o.o' (or 1 4 5 6 2 3 7...) if you don't need hookshot in dungeon 5..

1 4 2 6 5 3 7
remember that you need to do 3 before 5, because the fire rod is essential for 5. Edit: hmm, I notice I haven't been contributing much recently to this thread even though I started it! I should probably begin by making time to watch Omni's recent progress...

The Gold Sword doesn't save that much time over the Tempered Sword, because the only reason I'll be killing things is to collect items, or rupees or if it's somehow required by the game. The cane saves lots of time in various places. The hookshot saves even more time nearly everywhere (the total speed, including the wind up, is as if you're walking on a diagonal, maybe faster, but because it's an item, I'll have to count frames to see if it's worth the switch and switch back).
