Keep in mind that the cane won't be of any use in 5 because you can use the levitation glitch, allowing you to hit the switch prematurely, you can even skip the big key. While it is true that it saves some time in 3, it is not very much at all, due to having to switch items two more times to use it (you go in with mirror equiped if you do it after getting your sword tempered). Also using the firerod saves probably just as much time in 6 as the cane would save in 3 anyways.
I'm not really sure how much you can save with the hookshot early, but I am interesting in seeing it used.

this thread is really long so i don't wanna spend hours searching for this answer, but are any of these runs using the up+down/left+right glitch?
i hope not because that glitch cannot be performed on a console. (of course none of these speed runs can be duplicated via console, however the possibility of doing it was still there, whereas in this case it is actually impossible)
ps: please don't gannon-banned me

i'm well aware of this video, i just assumed that a longer one was created to include all pendants/crystals (ie completed the right way) with no confirmation on whether the above glich was allowed or not
Actually, performing that glitch on console is much easier than duplicating almost any other feats done in these time attacks; rather than requiring superhuman reflexes and perception, all it requires is a willingness to screw up your controller enough to press up+down at the same time. The full run is not using that glitch (it may still possibly press up+down/left+right somewhere, but not as an essential part of the run or to glitch out the game).
Currently my first run through is at the Master Sword. I'm in the process of planning out everything for a second go through though. My progress with that is I'm building a collection of maps, complete with enemy placements and what items are in which bottles.
Then I'll plan my route, taking into account what items I need where, when I switch items or not, &c.
But all this information was in the last two pages. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you could have easily found this for yourself.
Build a man a fire, warm him for a day,
Set a man on fire, warm him for the rest of his life.
I noticed a couple path improvements you could make at the very beginning. When you first exit Link's house, move to the left and pick up the bushes. Saves about half a second.
Then, you can save a couple frames right after the bridge before you go through the underground passageway inside the castle walls. Since the castle wall is slightly rounded at the corner, you can get a bit more diagonal walking by doing this:

Lol, also, what will be the differences between your run and Flagitious's run? He mentioned something briefly in his submission text but I didn't understand it because I am not that familiar with this game.
I feel kinda bad for making this run while Omni was already working on it. But I had to do it because this is my best game. I hope Omni keeps working on run. It will be nice to see how different routes/methods work out. I only hope his run isn't very influenced by my run because this way he is more likely to find out new cool stuff and then the best of both runs can be comined forming a super run. Although I don't want to be the one to combine, it took so long to do in the first place :) :)
Feel free to take the wobble though, there's no reason not to except consistancy/pain.

Actually, this takes the pressure off of me. ^^; I was half afraid that you weren't going to work on one.
Besides, if you guys had to wait on me it'd be 2143 before I ever finished it.
And this way I have a spiffy baseline to work my testing from, and compare myself to.

Don't worry, I'm not going to slavishly follow your path. ^.^ Unless, of course, if happens to be the fastest one (Doubtful, but possible). But I'm very interested in making the wobbling work.
So, if I may pick your brain for a minute, you mentioned pixel counting, from what I gather from your submission text (and some of my own testing):
regular walking is 2,1,2,1,2,1 &c.
wobbling is 2,2,2,2,2 &c.
diagonals are 1+1,1+1,1+1 &c.
dashing is 4,4,4,4 &c +32 frames of windup
dashing on a diagonal is ??? (hella fast, fastest form of movement I know of)
hookshotting is exactly as fast as wobbling (windup for however long you'll move + 4,4,4,4,4,4)
walking with sword or pot yet to test, I assume 2,1,1 which can be made to wobble as fast as regular wobbling
Build a man a fire, warm him for a day,
Set a man on fire, warm him for the rest of his life.
All that info is correct. I don't know for sure about dashing a diagonal either, except that it is indeed fast :)
While holding a pot wobble = same as regular wobble.
While holding sword out wobble = same as regular wobble.
Some slow terrains (water, grass?) wobble = same as regular wobble.
Although sword out + in shallow water + wobble = slow.
Most of the time I didn't really calculate which method for a situation is faster, I just try both ways if its close.
If you are interested there might be a way to wobble in a non up + left direction if you have to walk a slight diagonal. I couldn't get this to work but more experimenting should be done. Walk diagonal one frame then right 1 frame repeat.

Ut oh, I guess I'll be seeing my path then kekeke. Well I guess there's always a chance I missed something.
Awww, your latest glitch run got lockX0red before I could make my request:
Somebody (flagitious? Omni?) now needs to make the "HolyShitMyPantsAreOnFire" page. Seeing as how it's a wiki link and all.
Alrighty.
Y'know, I've never actually had the patience to do some sort of "frame-perfect" speed run, so what I plan on doing over a span of time is performing an entertainment run on this game. I want to do everything possible to be entertaining with the run without having to worry about all the hassles of time constraints.
So anyway, I've been mapping out my route a bit, and so far, this is the first run of the route I've come up with. I use some exploration glitches and try some things that people would think off-the-cuff or rather strange that actually work. Here now, is my planned route for the Light World.
1. Escape from castle using the sewers.
2. Glitch to the swamp.
3. Go into the swamp building and grab the bombs.
4. Grab the Icerod.
5. Enter the Desert Palace
6. Perform the exploration glitch there to get the Big Key
7. Save and Quit (Since I can't find a way to get myself normal again.)
8. Repeat step 1
9. Repeat step 2
10. Get the Titan's Mitt from the Desert Palace, and exit.
11. Go to the Village.
12. Grab the bottle from the house.
13. Grab the Bug-Catching Net from the boy.
14. Enter & Complete Eastern Palace
15. Glitch back to the swamp.
16. Complete Desert Palace
17. Rescue Zelda
18. Enter & Complete Tower of Hera
19. Save & Quit
20. Get to Agahnim
21. Defeat Agahnim using only the Bug-Catching Net
I have a few reasons for some of the things I do, as I'm not doing this all willy-nilly.
For the icerod, I"m going to use it to finish off as many bosses as I can in the game.
The bottle, not only being useful for keeping some Magic Medicine if I need it, but it's also a requirement for getting the Bug-Catching Net, which I use in my battle against Agahnim.
I haven't found another way using exploration glitches to both be able to get the Big Key in the Desert Palace and getting the Power Glove. I keep getting stuck after getting the big key and I have to save and quit.
And speaking of the Power Glove, the reason I get it first is because it makes going around the overworld a lot easier, because the soldiers basically block almost every exit and screw up screen transitions (except for a place to the right of the castle blocked by a rock you need to get rid of with the Titan's Mitt.)
So if you have any suggestions on my path for the Light World, lemme know. This is just a very first draft, and I still gotta figure in some things that flagitious and I talked about before I posted this, so the route will change most likely.
How about using the Death Mountain Descent glitch, and maybe somehow use Chris Houlihan's room as a shortcut. Also do the glitch that messes up the skull dungeon.

I agree with at least using the Chris Houlihan's room. I've never seen it and im too lazy to get to it..
I plan on going into the Chris Houlihan room sometime when I'm in the Dark World. I've been looking into this on GameFAQs and it looks I can get into it from any hole I can walk and fall into on the overworld, but I'm going to look over it further later.
For now, I'm just working on the Light World route.
