savestate for end of clanker's cavern If you make a savestate at the end of each of Sami's levels, you will have no problems ever. He might redo the current stage, but simply use the savestate before hand. Voila! Was that so tough? Nnnnnnnnnnnoooope! "why the hell are you allowed to even decide it's his duty to even do the run?" I'm not, and I never said I did. It's his decision, and it is not the obligation of the runner to make savestates for watchers. "all I did is asking friendly if he could provide a savestate next time if he were to redo something. notice the word please in my post. yet, appearantly, I can't even ask something here without being yelled at by people I didn't even direct my post at." There has been way too much yelling lately on the forums, and I apologize that you feel I'm yelling at you. "what the hell do you care if I ask for a little something of the runner? it's not like he has to go out of his way, since he should be keeping savestates on his own anyway, so it's hardly much more asked to upload the most relevant savestate aswell." Just how busy of a person is Sami do you think? You have no idea of his time table; he could very well be out doing homework, chasing girls, clubbing, whatever. You don't know his schedule, so don't act like it's his responsibility to take care of your need. Also, you forget that mupen comes with 9 savestates. Sami is probably using all 9 of those savestates to TAS with, meaning that they are unavailable to use. So, no, he probably does not have savestates in the exact spot where you need them, so it'd take him the EXACT amount of time it'd take you to make them. Also, one point you keep missing is it's not like it's hard for YOU to go out of your way to make them. What, does the savestate making button on your keyboard not work? "I mean, he could also just say like "another level finished" and not give out his m64 either. same thing." Different thing actually. You can't watch the movie if he doesn't give the .m64, but you can watch the movie if he doesn't give savestates. "I'm doing a friendly request, and so far Sami is the only one who hasn't provided savestates yet (out of the runs that I follow(ed), which is about 7 or so)" So this automatically makes Sami the bad guy? "without me having to make savestates every minute of the run since it is possible that he redid something SOMEWHERE I CAN'T EVEN PREDICT BEFOREHAND" He clearly says "I'm going to improve this level". Also, we are not making savestates every minute of the run. I have 6 so far. If you're right, I should have 49. "well guess what I'd rather wait for the whole thing to be done than having to do all that as a viewer." Laziness wins, eh? "any input someone could have had during the making of the run won't be of any use to the run if that someone doesn't watch the WIPs. I'm not that desperate for this run. anyone who makes all their own savestates is beyond desperate, imo. it's like as if you intend to coauthor the run and redo parts when you feel like it since you have all the savestates at your possession anyway. " Ok, those of us that make savestates are not desperate. it is quite average to make savestates when watching the progress of longer runs. QUITE AVERAGE. We are also not trying to be co-authors. we won't be actively TASing any part of the run, only a very few of us will make some suggestion for how it can be faster. Being a savestate maker makes you a more dedicated/smart kind of WIP watcher. 1) you can rewatch certains egments over, if you find one level very entertaining or want to review it 2) you won't need to re-watch segments you've already seen.

how do you post savestates onto forums and stuff? do you need a program or something?

No I just used some random file upload site, in this case mediafire. DeHackEd has a sub section of microstorage that uploads savestates with the movie file, but it doesn't work with .m64's.

holy crap WORDS. I am in the process of moving from one appartment to another so I haven't even seen the run but hopefully everything will be set up tomorrow and I can make a video... though it seems that most of you have already seen it.

Yes you can make a video. Bubblegloop Swamp is finished. I can't get Tiptup's songs better. I think manipulating is good. There is no too much running turtle to turtle and yellow one starts first. Im moving to the next levels :D

My last savestate where CC finished didn't work but the one that ended after TTC work. I really liked the crocodile Jiggy and when you use the mid-air snapping to reach that puzzle as well. The death at the end was also cool and unexpected. At first I thought it was a desync but to my surprise I quickly realised it wasn't.

"If you make a savestate at the end of each of Sami's levels, you will have no problems ever. He might redo the current stage, but simply use the savestate before hand." and since these world's aren't exactly that short, it's quite some extra FFWing to do before I can start to actually watch, which takes some of the fun out of it for me. "I'm not, and I never said I did."

ok, so I said you had said run but you actually had said movie, basically the same thing. "Just how busy of a person is Sami do you think? You have no idea of his time table; he could very well be out doing homework, chasing girls, clubbing, whatever. You don't know his schedule, so don't act like it's his responsibility to take care of your need." again, I'm simply asking for a favor, not demanding anything. I guess it's my fault for not knowing that uploading a 1 MB file takes away all of the time to do whatever you mentioned but uploading the m64 does no harm and, eh, making the whole run, or eh, movie. "Also, you forget that mupen comes with 9 savestates. Sami is probably using all 9 of those savestates to TAS with, meaning that they are unavailable to use. So, no, he probably does not have savestates in the exact spot where you need them, so it'd take him the EXACT amount of time it'd take you to make them." if one person does it, it saves time for everyone else. why would people need to reinvent the wheel? they don't. besides, it doesn't take me that much work, like I said before, I AM making savestates at the end of each world, but since it's not too uncommon that he has redone something, I already have had some occassions I had to use earlier saves and fastforward, which isn't exactly what I look forward to every time, and yes, I know I shouldn't be using as many commas, as I just did, in this sentense, lol. "Also, one point you keep missing is it's not like it's hard for YOU to go out of your way to make them. What, does the savestate making button on your keyboard not work?" it shouldn't be necessairy (you can just search avis etc too). funny you mention it, cuz yea, the Save As doesn't work as it should. don't know if it has been fixed in a newer version though. then again, did I complain about that here? Nnnnnnnnnnnoooope! "Different thing actually. You can't watch the movie if he doesn't give the .m64, but you can watch the movie if he doesn't give savestates." oh, but you can just make the run yourself and watch it without him having to give his m64. he isn't exactly required to share his process either. thus, same thing, since that's what the point was about. "So this automatically makes Sami the bad guy?" no, it just makes me used to people recognizing that it would be easier for viewers to provide savestates for them aswell. it takes some of the fun away from following his process, that's my point. "He clearly says "I'm going to improve this level"" irrelevant, it's not in his post where he linked to the m64, and by the time he said that I had already seen the new stuff. also, I could STILL not know where exactly the not-changed part would end and thus where a savestate would have to be made, having to FFW as little as possible. "1) you can rewatch certains egments over, if you find one level very entertaining or want to review it 2) you won't need to re-watch segments you've already seen." both points are also applicable to any other viewer. you can always rewatch anything as long as you have the m64 that has the part you want to rewatch. savestates aren't needed to avoid watching anything that is not what you wanted to watch. they just make it much more convenient and faster to get to that point, but then again, you don't need to be a savestate maker to actually get a hold of those savestates (except in some cases..)

This whole argument is getting offtopic. I love the run so far, the one thing I'm wondering about is that you immediately backtrack after Clanker's Cavern to grab the Jiggy from the eyes in the lair. There's also a point where you activate the warp cauldron for later use. Wouldn't you pass by that point in the lair later on so you don't have to spend time backtracking after clankers? Or did I miss something?

http://bkdj.net/index.php?dir=tas/bk/ It's 85 MB. I didn't expect it to be that big; I used the same quality settings as I do for my normal Majora's mask encodes since it's been a while. I guess +50% framerate and jerkier motion don't help. Anyway, it seems most of you got it working fine without the video. I'll make a smaller version shortly and put it up when it's ready. I watched and it really looked great! One thing I wondered is if it was possible to shoot an egg to alligator 2 from another alcove rather than right next to it.

Yeah that's not really my point though, the only point to activating that cauldron is if you're going to use it later on. If you do use it, you'll pass right by the eyes jiggy, which would save backtracking after CC by putting it off until later in the run.

Ah, I thought you were going to travel through it at some point later in the run. It looks good then if you just need to activate it.

I don't know anything about the layout of, well, anything in this game, but I think he's suggesting you get that jiggy when you use the cauldron to help you get into CCW.

Yes! CCW "painting" is close to TTC so with that cauldron I can get back quickly.

zdude, its not faster because from the cauldron, you still have to backtrack into the room, so it would be the same time if you got that jiggy at the end or at the beginning

backtrack? the room is between the ccw puzzle and the cauldron... So I think I agree with zdude255. For those who don't remember the layout or have the game, the ccw puzzle room is through a water tunnel by the waterfall in the room that is seen in the latest video video aroud 1m16, and again at 1m40. The witch eye jiggy can therefore be gotten en route from the puzzle to the cauldron.

One small six-frame criticism, When you roll into a loading zone, such as a doorway, you can sometimes save a bit of time by starting a backflip at the fastest part of the roll because you keep a constant speed while winding up for a backflip. I notice that you have not been doing this.

Why you don't say that before :P Well maybe V2 someone use that trick but I don't. I use a diffrent way to go loading zones and doors middle of the movie :o

I brought it up on page 12 of this thread, and bkDJ posted a test on page 14 showing that it saves time. I think bkDJ used it once in his most recent spiral mountain TAS.

bkDJ's Spiral Mountain was also more optimal because of a better roll/jump method.

NOW I know what you mean. You mean that crocodile head backflip. Yes it's slow but because there is little "hill" before eyes, you can't make slide backflip. And I use that slide backflipping always. That my spiral mountain is old :E If I have time and motivation, I'll make V2 version someday.
