Isn't this just a little off topic? :)
Which run should I encode next? :)

Yes, but, as for me, I've forgotten what we were talking about.

I'm posting this simultaneously in the N64 and GBA forums. I want to do a game in the Banjo-Kazooie series for this site, however, I am HORRID at route planning and the nature of these games is route planning. Would someone kindly help me, or better, do a run themselves? I know my fair share of time-saving tricks in Grunty's Revenge, so I may be able to help there.

If you think of anything good, you could try posting it here http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3114 . Or not.

*new arrival* Is anyone still considering this run? LSK mentioned being willing if they got route help a few months ago. I noticed something odd while fooling around; When you're talon trotting you move twice as fast up a slope if you're sliding from a jump. I haven't timed it, but alternating hop and slide seems a bit faster than normal talon trot on level ground. As for route planning, are we going for 100%? Or bare minimum? Either way, our route in Mumbo's Mountain should visit mumbo's village twice: once to get the beak buster and once to feed Juju and turn into a termite. So, tentative route plan: 1)Ascend to village and learn Beak Buster. (close to start, required for 4) 2)Learn Talon trot (quicker movement) 3)Clean out slopes en route to 4 4)Clean out gorilla area, learn to egg, hit witch switch 5)Return to Mumbo's village, clean out, turn into termite 6)Clean out slope below Mumbo's house as termite 7)Termite mound 8)Underwater notes as termite 9)Exit as termite This route will probably be completely rewritten later and is still a little fuzzy on what to collect at 4 1/2 vs at 6. That's what testing's for.

I think an any % run should be done first as these platformers are a pretty massive undertaking. Besides, then transformations can be avoided altogether.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I recall needing to become a pumpkin to activate a neccesary switch somewhere in Grunty's lair. Don't quote me on this, though.

That's correct. I would think planning for a 100% would be easier than for a any% anyway, as any% only skips six Jiggies and 90 notes. As mentioned, the pumpkin is necessary anyway, and the others give more than six Jiggies between them anyway.

Right. The tricky part of planning the fastest run is deciding what to skip, while the tricky part of 100% is defining it.

I'll look into glitching the pumpkin switch. Meanwhile, I did a bit of testing and it's possible to grab everything on the slope by the entrance without using talon trot or sliding in from above; However, it's probably faster to get the top set of ledges with talon trot or as a termite. Man, that termite is sloooooow. Juju cannot be fed from anywhere besides it's platform. The first hut you break spits out notes, so this should be the one to the right of the village entrance because you can grab the notes when you'd walk by it twice anyway. I ALMOST got the witch switch jiggie as banjo using talon trot. Kazooie's head was at jiggie level. Soooo close... Finally, the game's sliding physics is wierd. Also, the Beak Barge move doesn't cancel easily. It even slides you up slopes that would normally make you slip instantly and doesn't cancel when you enter water. Too bad it's so slow to perform.

Not really. 100% is all Jiggies, Notes and Extra Honeycomb Pieces.

What about collecting all the Mumbo tokens and activating all the cheats and warps and all that stuff? Don't they count?

Well, it really doesn't matter, it's just the choice of the person who makes the run. But if I were to make it, I would certainly skip all the cheats, almost certainly activate only the warp pots that were of use, and probably not collect extra Mumbo tokens. But it would definately take a lot more planning to do an any percent run. It would probably save about 10-15 minutes for the run, though. Maybe a bit less, since those honeycomb pieces don't have a celebration scene. If I'm ever feeling crazy, I might do some work on this. Maybe that'll attract someone else to take it over for me. =)

Hehe i just started TAS of this game ;) I only testing and planning. I do 100% run without collecting all mumbo tokens and cheats.

It is probably worth mentioning that SDA has a single segment run of this game. It is just under 3 hours and quite an achievement. Don't forget to reference it when route planning!

I think that is 100% completion when you collect 900 notes, 100 puzzlepieces and all honeycombs :)
