Has anybody tried to access a SW inside the Frigate ventilation shafts? During the escape bit, there's plenty of vents (EG where parasite swarms come out of), which you should be able to get into. It's certainly possible in the Crashed Frigate, which is basically the same structure. The only difference would be that you don't have the charge boost yet. Hopefully though the advanced bomb jump techniques can compensate, which if successful would certainly be interesting.
Frigate SWs have been known for years. They don't require any TASing. http://www.metroid2002.com/secret_worlds_main_ventilation_shafts.php

Aren't there things in this game that depend on the load times? That seems like a good reason to try to fix it a little.
No. no tricks in our route depend on loading time. Also would editing the loading time make all loading times the same length? because with the default loading larger rooms take longer to load and what not.

Oh, ok. I guess it doesn't matter then. Why have people been so concerned about it then?

No, of course not.

Because in Metorid Prime 2 there are a few tricks that can't be done because of dolphins loading time.

And I think some people were concerned about comparing times with real-time Metroid Prime runs.

Also, it's a rule that the game must be emulated well.

Load times aren't really part of the game.

Well without loading time the non-TAS record could be improved my at lest a minute, game-time. I'd consider loading times a big part of this game <_<
The emulator should be set to emulate the system as closely as possible
I'm pretty sure that includes loading time.

Yea, just imagine: A TAS of Metroid Prime gets published, and ends up being unbeatable due to a latter revision of dolphin having more accurate load times. o.O

That kind of thing falls under "emulator inaccuracies" and is not a reason to avoid publishing a "faster" run. You just do your best to measure how much faster the new run is than the old one in the non-loading-constrained areas.

So, that source that you linked to... does changing the value make every single load the same?

As i already said, no. it just changes the rate it loads data at, and the latency before it starts reading.

Assuming you're referring to the Fusion Suit, I'd much rather see Samus in her standard suit. The Fusion Suit looks rather pants in this game, and of course it's completely non-canon. Or if you're referring to the HUD, I always thought it was one of the least intrusive HUDs ever, so it wouldn't bug me if it were left on...but it's not really a big deal. Please do turn off the hint system, though, so we don't have to have the game going "Go over here! Really, please listen to my hint by pressing Z!" all the time.

I'm talking about the actual helmet, its part of the HUD. but we already left it on since it takes like half a second to take of and isn't nearly as annoying as Navi-I mean, the hit system.

Turn everything off, just like things have appeared in the last decade of Metroid Prime speedrunning :)

I say leave it on. The HUD is super non-intrusive, and if there's any close calls in the TAS it's nice to see how many resources you escaped with. The Super Metroid (I think it was Super, maybe Fusion) TAS wouldn't be nearly as cool in some parts if you couldn't see the HP, like when Samus escapes with 1 frame of damage left from a hot screen.

Leave HUD, just disable Hints.

I agree with Derakon and Rolanmen1. Leave the HUD on, but turn the helmet and hints off.

We're not talking about the HUD (that's the visor), but the eyesore helmet, which blocks a small part of the screen with absolutely no benefit. My opinion on this should be pretty obvious, so.

If you're already going into the menu anyway to turn of hints (which everyone, including me, seems to agree should be turned off), turning of the helmet as well should be a trivial addition. I don't really care either way, but go ahead.
Even the best player is limited by the speed of his fingers, or his mind's ability to control them. But what happens when speed is not a factor, when theory becomes reality?

It all boils down to personal preference. Seeing a game played without the HUD seems weird, and having the helmet off... Might also seem weird. Few people disable the helmet AFAIK, and seeing as it's just a personal preference, I don't see why time should be wasted on a TAS to disable it. When was the last time any TAS went around changing the control scheme because it felt more comfortable?
