Oh how I love all those small tricks that would be completely ridiculous in an RTA. Keep up the good work!

Here's another little optimization, though the video has very suboptimal movement. I didn't space my jumps very well so I think a second or two could still come off this, but the new strat itself saves a lot of time on it's own. Link to video

Love how you can't see a thing because of the enemies. Just makes it seem more impressive!

I remember when people were trying to find a way up that shaft in order to allow a large route improvement and corresponding time save (assuming it's the one I'm thinking of; I don't have room names memorized). It was big news when it was originally found. Now, a TAS makes it go really quickly and look easy.

Yeah that's the room, one of the two spider shafts we had to solve inbounds to take Thardus/spider ball out of the route and save a minute or so from that.

I thought you couldn't pursue your tas because of desyncs? Regarding the 100% run, yes it can obviously be improved but what has history taught us? We have accepted suboptimized runs before. Why? For various reasons: 1) Due to a game's popularity 2) Knowing there will always always always be someone else who will improve your run (relying on the future and how it's always worked around here) 3) Knowing someone is working on an improvement and therefore tasvideos has accepted the circumstance and published the run. Abeshi and Guanobowl's Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time are a few examples. If the 100% run is not legit, then disregard what I said. But, as usual, you don't get a lot of information from a simple sentence.

Edzan's 100% TAS won't be submitted to this site, and neither will my Any% when it done.

Maybe because the TAS is splitted? I mean the same thing happened with OoT 100% and Wind Waker any%.

That's exactly what I'm saying, I might as well take advantage of a forum with a thread about TASing Metroid Prime to make it known that I'm TASing Metroid Prime.

I'm totally okay with this. Angerfist, stop harassing for a submission - that will come when one would be ready. Afaik, you are neither the one doing it nor paying for it. That being said, I would really appreciate a submission - and validation - of a Metroid Prime TAS run. For the meantime, that 100% TAS is quality stuff, and I can't wait to see how short can be the any%! EDIT: At one moment, Samus was tring to bomb an Ice door, then I see a savestate a few seconds before and after that the same ice door has been properly opened with an Ice shot. (EDIT: see next post below.) Edzan considers that run to not be optimized enough, and is striving for the sub 1h, so we'll see what will come next!

Edzan's TAS was recorded in small segments to avoid desyncs, it was probably an editing error dealing with all those video files.

Ah, yes... that's what I thought. You're doing the same thing since the desync issues haven't been solved for this game, right?

Fair enough. It's easy to miss something on a movie that long.

I'm doing a similar thing, though my TAS is all made on one movie. Technically you could play it back and have it sync, but it's unlikely and would take several attempts.

Wait, so you're not submitting the finished run because it won't sync all the way through? Just want to be clear on this.
effort on the first draft means less effort on any draft thereafter - some loser

I'm not submitting the finished run first and foremost because it's not to my standard of optimization. It also doesn't always sync properly, which is part of the reason I've been less of a perfectionist with the frame grinding.

If you consider a TAS to be suboptimal, I find that a very good reason to not submit. With a game this popular, it would surely be possible to get a TAS published even if it isn't very optimized. While a suboptimal publication can motivate people to make a better TAS, we should still aim for the goal of perfection.

I should probably specify that my TAS is far and above the most optimized thing that's been made in this game to date (aside from my Frigate, which is part of the TAS), I don't want to make it sound otherwise. Ask anyone from the Metroid Prime community or any of the other TASes of the game and they'll agree, this isn't just a personal opinion of mine. The TAS will be very solid and to the untrained eye probably look just about flawless. I mean, as an example, people from outside the community thought Edzan's 100% TAS was super optimized... He himself said and knows it's not, that wasn't his goal, his description even said he could probably save ~6 minutes if he tried again. To get back on track here, the difference between my current TAS and my idea of an optimal one comes down mostly to routing and to the odd handful of frames here in there that could be shaved off with angle grinding on each frame. My main motivation for starting up this TAS again was honestly to have something to compare to when timing more eccentric route ideas that would require having TASed the majority of the current route to compare against. Things like skipping Varia which I'm quite certain will save some time, but it changes the route so much that I almost need to make two full game TASes just to be certain of the difference. If you want to look at it this way, I'm still in the routing and timing and strat hunting stage of an actual full out Metroid Prime TAS, and the run I'm working on now is just a byproduct of needing to have the majority of the run timed and recorded for later.
