Haha. I wish I could find the Remake.
I've been trying to find the rom for a while now. :3
Of course, I haven't checked every website I have so far, so..
Better do that. ;3
So this is based on FFIV ("hardtype"), right? (Cecil starts out with the Dark Wave ability and all that?) That would mean this has the advantage of having less things removed from the original (than FF2 US), in addition to having English text and better graphics. Well, even without that, I'm looking forward to seeing this.
Bah. Haven't had any luck finding the rom as of yet.
But, that won't stop me from looking, hehe.
I never played the original, so I never knew anything was removed from the Super NES Version of the game. :3
Good graphics and sound but the random generator is not as good as in Snes version. Almost all moves are predetermined. There's some ways to manipulate luck but it costs too much time. But well, I will try my best to do a good movie.
At least, you can walk a lot faster and battles are way much faster than before.
+ there's that bug that let you attack twice. I don't know what's the reason but it's clearly useful.
I wanna play the hard version! Can't read Japanese though..So I can't really play the Japanese version.. >>
You shoudl expect a Private Message from me Phil, got something to ask. n.n;
I finally got the rom thanks to someone kind enough to send me a few Websites, hehe.
I like it. Everyone seems to have abilities they didn't in the first one. Soo far, Cecil with Dark, Rosa with Pray, and Yang has an ability that raises his Defense, though it doesn't work too well. :3
I still think Dark is a cool ability, in spite of Cecil losing about 5-10% of his Hit Points whenever using it.
I have to wonder if they got rid of the glitch where Cecil's Stats lower sometimes after he Levels Up as a Paladin..
Well. Guess I'll know soon enough. Already up to Fabul, hehe. ;3

Didn't Cecil have DarkWave or sometinh in some snes version? (maybe jap?). And atleast in every version I have played, Rosa has had Pray. About Yang's ability: I don't remember much of it since I didn't use him much (played fast through the parts where he's in your party).
Anyways, my oppinion on the run: I'd rell like to see a TAS of FF4 (being such huge ff-fan ;) ), but I'd prefer it in snes. Althou' I'd really like to see the differences between the snes & gba versions, so I hope the run will be done in both emulators.
Several commands were removed from FF4 in its original North American release as "Final Fantasy II": Cecil's Dark, Rosa's Pray, Tellah's Remember, Yang's Endure and Build, Palom's Boast, Porom's Cry, and FuSoYa's Regen.
They also didn't have the Protect, Shell, and Dispel white magics.
I think they were all in both Japanese versions (not sure about EasyType), and they were left in the newer US versions (like Final Fantasy Chronicles).
I should note that according to my testing the Warp glitch in the Dwarves castle crystal room no longer works in the GBA version. This will force you to do the sealed cavern later on and will add quite a bit of time that could have been avoided otherwise.
On top of that, both leveling tricks in the Tower of Babel no longer work. Searchers now summon Centaurions (which give far less EXP) instead of D.Machines - heck, I haven't even seen D.Machines or whatever they're renamed to in FF4 Advance yet - and the Attack/Defense Nodes of the CPU no longer give experience.
What's nice about this game is that although you're stuck with the same ol' same ol' party until towards the end - where you can switch your current party members out for Porom, Palom, Edward, Yang and Cid - which will rise some questions on what party combination would help finish the game the quickest. (Tellah and FuSoYa cannot be switched in or out, as they are gone due to story reasons).
Do we go all melee? Or go all magic? Or a combination of both? The only requirement is that Cecil MUST be in the party. The game will not allow you to switch him out otherwise.
Either way, I would love to see a run of this game someday!
You mean I'll be able to get Palom and Porom back if I want? Cool, hehe. ;3
I'll bet there's a Side Quest you have to do for them though. Seeing as how they turn themselves to stone with the Break Spell, which kind of confuses me.
The White Mage shouldn't be able to use Break.
But, I have noticed the Level glutch is gone. Cecil's stats no longer reduce any when he levels. I must have foughtr for over an hour earning the money to buy his starting Paladin Armor from Mysidia, hehe.
Palom and Porom change back automatically near the end of the game, after the Giant of Bab-Il is activated. If you recall the following cutscene, Edward, Yang, the Dwarves, the Sylphs, the Troians and the Mysidians (including Palom and Porom who were returned to normal, presumably by the Elder) all stall the Giant, while Cecil and co go inside. So I doubt there'll be any necessary subquest for the twins, they should just be switchable right away.
The only stat that goes down really, is Cecil's Spirit, cause I traded in his starting Armor and Weapon for something bette, hehe.
I haven't been this hooked to a game in a good while.
Finally got Rydia back, and am going to do some hard training, hehe. ;3
There is no side quest for the twins. They are automatically unstoned by some mysterious means, but it's assumed that the Elder unstoned them. After leaving the Giant of Bab-Il and getting the Lunar Whale, Namingway will explain how you can switch party members in Mystidia. Then you can get Porom and Palom in your party if you want.
But there is a good point - why did Porom turn into stone when she does not even know the Break spell? But, anyway, that is not the point of the thread. The point is to discuss how to make this game sped-runnable :P
I figured it was a kind of Twin spell. They just never use it in battle, is all. Hence the whole 'can't be cured by items' thing.
Regardless, good luck on your run Phil.
That's better than using a stupid glitch like that.
I don't know for searchers since I've got more work to do to be there but it's sad for Attacker/Defender. Since it's a TAS, I won't be needed to do as much level up as an imperfect video.
D.Machines are Dragon Mech.
