A disappointing score... lol. You broke the game! Looking good like usual. Do you think the 8th and 10th holes could have been reduced to 1 stroke? You came very close to the green on both tee shots. Anyways keep up the good work; I am looking forward to seeing this run completed.

This WIP is awesome. It looks sooooo good that I was soooo impressed all the time. This video really shows what is entertaining golf ! This MUST be accepted when TAS is completed. I have played this game H*LL alot. And i thought that I was good, but... This is something :D Even it is tool assisted.

Hey guys, sorry for the delays, but I'm having some problems manipulating UK course hole 6. I have been working on this steadily, the hole is just being surprisingly unco-operative. Unlike US 1, there is only one possible wind/pin setup for a hole-in-one (as opposed to four). I've redone holes 2 through 5 a few times already, but still no luck. I'll release a WIP after nine holes, since there likely will need to be some heavy wind manipulation again for hole 11 (or 10, I forget which one is the short one. 14 also, but most winds work there).

I have not worked on it since around the time of my last post. I still was unable to manipulate the only wind that works for a hole in one on hole six by replaying the first five holes with slight changes in shots to affect the wind. Most of my small amount of TASing time available the last little while has gone to Goldeneye. While I really would like to finish this playaround, I just don't have the time for it right now. Sorry.

Although Golf is perhaps the opposite of a speed oriented game, my father requested that I try to make a run of NES Open Tournament where I golf a perfect game. Would this be a good idea, or would this yield a boring run? By the way, unlike before, this topic doesn't mean I'm cancelling my current run, as Arcade's Revenge is going fairly well so far. I'm just interested in this as a possible side project is all. P.S. 100th post!

Could be interesting - in particular, I think it would be interesting to make a full analysis of the physics of this game - basically making a mathematical model of how the game works, and find the perfect game by this model. Maybe it's only me who finds those ideas interesting. :) I tried doing this some months ago, with some luck, but it's a big project to understand how everything works in this game. Anyway, I have a bunch of RAM addresses if they can be of help:
00B7 Direction
CE Swing|speed
CD Club
12E Screw
| |
00B0 Ball|Y|sub
00B1 Ball|Y|pos
00AD Ball|X|sub
00AE Ball|X|pos
| |
00B6 Ball|height|pix
00B5 Ball|height|sub
D6 Swing|traject
x96 Wind|dir,|20=R
97 Wind|speed
8F Dist?
| |
E1 Ball|height|sp
E2 Ball|height|sp
db Ball|X|speedpix
da Ball|X|speedsub
| |
| |
sub=sp=subpixel, tracect=tracectory, Dist?=distance to hole (probably) Some more facts: Shot directions: 256 Swing speeds: 3 Clubs: 14 Screws: 5 Possible shots: 53760 This does not count in wind speed, which is a random factor I do not fully understand yet. But ~50k possibilites per shot isn't that bad - it would be quite possible to brute force each possibility, and you can of course cut this down more by eliminating shot directions and swing speeds that are obviously bad.

Isn't it safe to say this project is no longer active? Furthermore, if so, should I pick up where this person left off, or would that be looked down upon? I could try to contact the person about it, but I don't know how successful I'd be. Edit: It looks like he has all of the holes in the U.S 18H course done...not sure what the 2/3 means. That said, in order for this to be a TAS, I feel like it has to be done in Tournament mode, which for some reason isn't done here. I could probably attempt to use this video to make a .fc2 in tournament mode for the U.S 18H course, but that probably wouldn't be too impressive considering I'd essentially be copying and pasting. Maybe I could do a different course? Which one is considered to have the highest difficulty?

Our forum guidelines suggest having only one topic per game unless absolutely necessary. I've merged them.

Brandon, If you check this page more closely, you can see that both US and Japan Courses are done. Only one left is UK (That's what I meant with that 2/3). And to be honest, Japan is the most difficult one, for me at least. I think that Tournament mode won't add any value to this "run", since there is nothing different except the prize shots where you can earn some money. And like you know, they are not that hard to optimize :P If you still want to do the run, I would suggest that you do UK the same way as Rising Tempest did his part. I definitely would like to see complete playaround :)

The only reason I thought Tournament Mode would be better is because it has a clearer goal. That said, if people have already completed US and Japan without it, I could do UK in the same manner, merge the files together, and create a run out of it. Sounds like a good idea?

Hi Brandon, you can use my input file if you would like :) I am pretty sure that the run that Rising Tempest was working on improved my run by quite a bit. Either way, good luck buddy. I've been waiting to see this run finished for a long time.

Yo I think I just found a new glitch in this game, happened while playing with the 2-player setting in hole 12: I hit the ball from like the middle of the course with the Club 1W, the ball went flying very high (so I thought that I overdid it and that I was going to get an OB) and at like the peak altitude of the ball, it went straight to the ground near the edge of the bunker at the left of the hole. Essentially skipping the rest of the ball moving and I was ready for the next shot. I checked both the TAS and the WR but I didn't saw it since it's probably slower but still interesting to know what happens there.
