Squirrel time!
It was a while since I did my previous run of this, and it turned out to be not so good. In my old version however the second player was a total pacifist and I didn't take damage. This time I take loads of damage, tossing squirrels everywhere and let them kamikaze into pits and other evil things.
This is actually my forth version this time because I had to start over a couple of times. It was good though.
My original plan was to do a run that could be compared to Genisto's masterpiece but unfortunately the game didn't allow me to do that. I do control both characters this time but I can't, in most cases, run with them simultaniously because the game lags (hacks?) too much. The first area alone ate 1000 frames if I recall correct from my test runs if I were to run with both of them. Thus one of the animals has to be carried to make it faster.
Else it's quite a simple game and I don't have more to add really. When I started and saw how the progress went I was hoping for a 2 minute improvement, landing somewhere above 12 minutes, but it went even better and I managed to improve my old run with 3 minutes and 3 seconds if I got it right (from 14:39 down to 11:36).
Oh yeah. The boss in level 8 could be the most boring boss ever. He's the one driving that machine. He takes 8 hits to kill and I have to wait for him to drop stones that I can toss at him. The other bosses went fine though.
  • As fast as possible
  • One player controlling two characters
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses death as a shortcut
  • Manipulates luck
That's it. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Yes, very nice. Definite YES vote from me. As Guybrush said: "Clever usage of death and the other character.". And what comes to the level 8 boss, I thought it was kinda entertaining. That may be because I waited for something _much_ less entertaining :) Anyways, you managed to make the whole run quite entertaining with those character throws and deaths. Atleast kept my eye tightly on the screen since there was so much happening. ;) EDIT: btw Guybrush, nice idea for the screenshot.
Which run should I encode next? :)

That was just crazy. First i was surprised at how it worked to save time and then i couldn't find any mistake on the later levels. very nice. At the mine cart level there was a lot of lag that could be cut if one of the characters died, but you ran out of lives, so i don't see any problem with the run. yes vote!

It's true that I ran out of lives, but dying wouldn't have helped me while riding the mine cart either. I don't get to hover while I'm on the track and not really close to the end. I just end up back on the mine cart again.

But while there's only 1 character on screen it doesnt lag, right. It takes a second or two for him to comeback...

desync around frame 23000 with FCEU Nitsuja's v6 patch plays fine with 98.12, now we need FCEU that plays both 98.12 and Nitsuja's patch.

Wow, that was amazing. Maybe it's bacause it's late and I'm way too tired, but I found the way you threw those squirrels around really funny. :) As well as how they could cath huge rocks thrown at them from behind without any trouble at all, like on that dinosaur in that vehicle boss. You know the one you throw huge grey rocks at... I hope you understand. ;) And I mean, 183 seconds improvement... Of course I'm voting Yes, no questions at all. I have one stupid question though: When either Chip or Dale dies, they come back flying a balloon. Is it possible to control them when they are flying the balloon, or are their movements totally random? Oh and I think Guybrush's idea for screenshot was pretty nice. It captures the squirrel-throwing madness in this run, if you know what I mean. :)

I do that all the time. Controlling them that is, else it would be quite useless.

(Or you can just use 0.98.12 to play such movies.) To clarify, the different behaviour is because of fixes that were made after 0.98.12 to make the emulation more accurate, and I wasn't the one who made these changes, I only incorporated them from newer versions. I asked Phil about this but he didn't think it was necessary to make FCEU emulate differently on playback of movies made in older versions. EDIT: Oh, and... nice movie. Voting 'yes'.

Vote Yes too. As already others says, great death shortcuts. First as I read it I have wonder me too how this can be possible in this game. But you really can see these faster time with these death trows. So great run.

Next time, can you use nitsuja's FCEU version for making NES movie?

Yeah, you used blips version, I think. Nitsuja recently hacked it some more. With the new version, your movie desynchs near the end.

Oh. I didn't even know that I had missed that. Well, I do that with my next run, some time in a not so near future. Thanks btw.

Very nice. I had to go back and watch the first death sequence a few times to figure out what the hell i just saw. Only one thing.....chip and Dale are definitely chipmunks, not squirrels. And i'm not sure if gadget appears anywhere, but she's definitely a mouse and not a squirrel either.....the things you pick up in a mis-spent youth >.>
YtterbiJum, on SMB3: I've tried 20+ times and it always desyncs there. Unless, of course, Genisto meant to die, use a star on the map screen, go in a pipe, and jump around till time runs out.

In fact, she IS a mouse, and noone claimed otherwise. ;)
