No matter how much I try to do this, it doesn't work...
But it looks like the bug could be real - the way the game reacts is hinting a little towards that.
Has anyone ever succeeded in this?
I guess my plan didn't work.
I did save 3 minutes of time, but the daylight was against me and I really need something better than the leather whip to get across the swamp next to Jova (the starting town).
The game starts with initial cash of 50 hearts.
Here's what I did in the released movie:
- Go to forest and fight until have 50 hearts
- Return to Jova, buy water and buy crystal, both cost 50 hearts.
- Make a travel to the next town
- Fight the whole night to wait for day
- Buy chain whip (costs 150 hearts)
- ...
Here's what I did in the current movie, compared to the above:
- Buy crystal
- ...
I planned to postpone the buying of water until I'm returning to the same area, and totally skip the chain whip (it can't be bought without having the water).
So I ran straight to the Berkeley mansion (bone) and Rover mansion (heart) and managed to do them quite fast. Berkeley mansion has one very good place to get a levelup easily.
My next stop would have been the Brahm mansion (eye). I wanted to stop in Jova to buy holy water, but it was night. So I skipped that (and planned to return later), but I couldn't get across the swamp (tough swampmonsters).
Level 2 is the maximum that is possible to get on the right side of Jova, and I had that - so there was no solution in raising defense. Laurels also were unavailable, because laurelshoppers are always hiding behind walls that can be blasted with the water.
This game needs really much planning :(
I wonder if I'll ever break the time of the movie I already released...
Maybe the reason the Fall through floors! glitch didn't work for you is because Famtasia skips frames and you can't crack the whip at exactly the right time.
This is the toughest game I've yet played like this, maybe due to its length.
It's not nice to find that the latest three hours of your work were broken...
I'm doing too many mistakes.
I already know how I can improve the previous movie by a minute or two (I started a new one today), but those mistakes aren't very motivating...
The game isn't very long and complex now that I have been thinking it that much, but it's very worksome.
All right, I quit with this game.
My estimation of ~2 minutes of improvement was crushed when I noticed that I was entering the fourth mansion almost a minute later than in the previous movie, although I was three minutes ahead in some earlier position.
The major difference to the previous version was that I wasn't buying the chain whip, and I also found some minor optimizations, but apparently the fact that leather whip is not so powerful...
Does someone else want to try? :)
Does anyone want the fmv of my (incomplete) successor attempt?
Other items on my pending list currently, in no specific order and without schedule:
- Improvement of the SMB2 (USA) movie (various small fixes)
- Improvement of the Solomon's Key movie (major fix in room 17)
- 2-player Mario Bros movie (played alone)
- Improvement of the Castlevania movie (major fix in the last battle)
Browsing through David Wonn's site i found a glitch that supossedly can warp you from Deborah Cliff to Castlevania, it can be found here:http://kontek.net/davidwonn/nes.html#C
it says that using it you can skip 2 of the mansions by using this trick but i think that if the glitch it's true and can be pulled out, the only things needed to beat the game are the red crystal and a chain whip, you would need holy water too to get to that whip, using those items you could get to Deborah Cliff perform the glitch and beat the game in a very short time, what do you think??
I tried it a few times, as well as a few other tricks mentioned on that page, but I didn't manage to do it - as seen in the previous messages above.
[moved these two messages between forums.]
I just did the fall through floors glitch on famtasia! I'll send you the .fmv, but you will have to wait for 7 minutes to actually see it (I didn't think of using savestates). I actually did not notice it until I jumped out of the floor.
I want to see that.
I tried that like countless times and I couldn't do it.
It's definitely harder than the Rockman2 wall-omission tricks (click here for a sample) that the Morimoto's team are doing.
I saw it.
I'm my mouth wide open.
It's not like it helped me to do that...
Well, it's good to see it is *possible*.
edit 1: Here's an AVI file demonstrating that being done: https://files.tasvideos.org/cv2floor.avi (300 kB, no sound)
edit 2: (Fixed the above address)
Here is a pic of the glitch. Because I fell directly through the floor, the game acted as though I fell through the water and put me right where I fell through the floor.
What does that mean? You are going to not make any more time attacks for this game? I am going to try to find a way where I can almost always find a way to get the "fall through platforms" glitch to work. As for the Deborah Cliff Glitch, well, you can't do that one if you want to actually fight Dracula.
That new Rockman 2 video is going to look awesome. I wonder what other glitches they have found out.....[/quote]
I'd like to _see_ it done quicker than my video was.
I just don't want to go over the trouble again.
Here's btw my latest try (incomplete): https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/bisqwit2-cv2-incomplete.fmv
It works with the European version.
It differs from the released version in that it has many micro-optimizations and that it doesn't buy the chain whip.
One of the design principles were that if I kill something, I must get its heart. (Unless it's too far to reach - then it doesn't matter.)
One curious thing to note is how perfect timing I have in Aljiba (the cyan town). Day comes exactly when it should and the crystal exchanger appears immediately after that without waiting.
I also used the three block high jump trick twice, both at the below of a lake.
Also, having these guys stay out of your way is often a matter of pressing up or left/right in the stairs.
Both work for climbing but have different effects the monsters' behavior.
You might want to add in the video description that you can save a couple of minutes if you exploit some very hard glitches (I'll start working on it now to find a way to always fall through the floor. Then I'll put in a password for red crystal and get to Deborah's Cliff and see if I can perform the warp to Castlevania trick (What I wonder about the most is if the game actually thinks you have all the items when you do it if you only have the red crystal....hmmm) I don't really want to make a video of this game because I know it would not be very good (I don't really know my way around the game) but if I figure out how to always exploit the glitches then someone else can do a new vid.
Did you ever happen to make an .avi file of the glitch. I want to study it ;)
Done
I believe you need the holy water too. Unless the glitch puts you straight next to the room where Dracula's remnants are burned.
Yes, read the earlier messages.
According to David Wonn's site, It warps you to the first room of Dracula's Castle. It will have messed up graphics, but they return to normal when you get to his lair. You don't need to beat the last two mansions. In other words, the game will assume you have all items of dracual when you really don't.
Thanks for making the video. I played it through frame by frame and I should be able to do it again in a couple of minutes.
Edit:I did it almost immediately when I started, but I accidentily hit re-record instead of save. I'll try it again. The spot it worked at was where the white-crystal merchant is. When you fall through the floor, you fall and hit the bottom of the next floor, so it would be good for a time attack.
