We started creating a new statistics page as a joint effort with Bisqwit: http://tasvideos.org/MovieStatistics.html Note that this is a heavy Work In Progress (TM). Our plan is to make it versatile so that statistic tables could be much more easily created anywhere in the site. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome. (Note: One idea we had was to create statistics based on the amount of keypresses in movies. However, making code to parse all the different movie file formats is rather laborious, and the process itself is rather heavy, so for now we left those statistics out.)

Most downloaded / days since published Edit: And I guess along with that you can have least downloaded / days since published, and most MB transfered / days since published, least MB transfered / days since published.

Nice done. When some from my movies would accepted I would have one from the longest. :-) 9. Place GB Final Fantasy Adventure = 1:33:09

Suggestion: Add the ability to select a different number than 10 to show of each category - I'd be interested in seeing what the top 20 or 30 of something are, what the shortest run is that's longer than marble madness, etc. Possible additional categories: Most yes votes, most no votes (etc.), longest/shortest author's comments. (Of currently published movies only, still.) Also, is it possible to get any statistics on how many times the movie file was downloaded? I wonder how those compare with the number of AVI downloads - maybe some movies have disproportionately more or less downloads than AVI downloads compared with other movies.

Oh, yes, while we're on the subject of stats, my Flashback vid has none. ^_^

One thing that's been strange to me about downloading statistics is that obsoleted movies are not accounted for. Someday when SMW-11 is obsoleted, its download statistics are discarded, and as far as the goal of statistics, it doesn't seem accurate to me. Not that I have a good alternative.

The problem with that is that calculating the contents of the page is a more or less heavy process and that's why it's done only each 10 minutes (what you see is just a cached version of the page). If it was done each time someone loads the page, that would be quite a security risk (someone could cause extremely heavy loads to the server by requesting the page repeatedly very fast). This may especially be true in the future if parsing of the movie files is implemented, which is a very heavy operation.

I'll have to consult Bisqwit about whether bittorrent statistics are preserved for obsoleted movies or not. It would indeed be interesting to have "most downloaded movies of all time" statistics. Another thing which just occurred to me is that the "least downloaded movies" gets actually filled mostly by the newest movies. Perhaps there could be a category like "least downloaded movies older than 1 month" or something to truely show the least popular ones (assuming it's possible to get publishing dates; I'll have to consult Bisqwit about that too). (Btw, if your movie gets into the least popular movies list, don't get too depressed. That list might actually make the movie more popular, helping it get out of the list... :P )

I agree that there should be statistics for the amounts of times the input movie file was downloaded too (not just the AVI). Just mentioning because you didn't comment on it so maybe you missed it.

Currently, impossible to comply. With some hacking, it could become possible, but statistics of downloads before Feb 13 2005 are lost forever.

"Most downloads per day" or "Least downloads per day" might be interesting as well.

well, you can cache the top 100 or something, and just display the first x elements of the cache, depending on what the viewer wants. With currently 468 movies and 970 submissions, you might even cache all of them.

Ponderponder. Maybe some graphical statistics would be a good idea too... On a time scale (December 2003 onwards): * Amount of AVIs available in file size * Average AVI file size * Number of movies * Number of submissions ** Submissions that have been judged as <status> would be interesting too, but as history of status changes is not kept, it's rather unpractical to implement * Amount of bittorrent traffic - impossible, only the most recent situation is available * Amount of other traffic - unpractical, but see traffic statistics

Suggestion: List movies by the "amount of input". (Measured in the actual button presses or active frames.)

Actually, thinking more about it, that problem is very small, almost nonexistent. New movies are published rather rarely and if they are at all popular, they get off the list very fast (probably in a few days at most). In other words, I retract my statement: I don't think the list gets filled with the most recent movies, so there's not really a need for an "older than 1 month" version of the list. Other statistics using the date of publication could be interesting though.

There seems to be a problem with this movie in the moment on the Statistic page: [83] NES Goonies (USA) by Phil&Genisto in 02:35 when this appear in a statistic, it always appear 2 times. Shortest movies, Shortest AVI files (by time), Smallest AVI files (by filesize), Least downloaded AVIs, Smallest amount of downloaded data. Everytime its listed 2 times.

This is due to how the two different versions of the movie (fmv and fcm) are stored in bisqwit's database. They appear as two separate and distinct movies and the simple top10 script does not see that they are actually the same. Making the script see that they are actually the same movie would require special coding. (Or perhaps the fmv version should just be removed?)

Could the fcm "obsolete" the fmv? Or would that require making it a unique published movie?

Isn't it possible to merge them? There's also movies with more than one video, for example (MKV and OGM or MKV and AVI, IIRC), so why not one with both an FMV and an FCM? :)

What about most obsoleted run? That would be interesting to see a statistic on.......

I made two additions to the MovieStatistics page: - Now only movies published over 2 weeks ago are listed in the least downloaded lists. - A new top list (Bisqwit's idea): Longest stayed unchallenged

Hmm the new list is nice but to me "unchallenged" sounds like no one has even tried obsoleting them. I suggest rewording it to something like "longest time published".

I think that the idea Bisqwit had when he suggested that term was that it's a list of really old movies which can most probably be improved by current knowledge and technology on TAS-making, and the list could be an incentive for someone to try. The name "longest time published" doesn't feel to convey that message, somehow.
