"Smallest improvement" might also be interesting, to see what games get "frame-warred". Of course, it's tricky to phrase that in a positive way.
Yeah, that could be interesting... It could also be interesting to see a list of biggest (Improved time) / (previous movie's time) ratio, to get a hunch of what runs improved the previous run the most.

I think the ratio idea is more or less the same as the percentage improvement one.

Could someone summarize what is it *exactly* that is being suggested here? I'm not quite following.

For any movie that obsoletes another movie, look at (length of current movie in frames)/(length of movie it obsoletes in frames)... larger values imply the movie was obsoleted by a small margin, and smaller values imply the movie was obsoleted by a large margin. but i vote meh, we're not a bunch of frame counters here right? ;)

Also, have a seperate listing looking at absolute time, not just ratios.

It would be fun to have TOP-10 lists of movies based on the - number of kills - number of player deaths - number of explosions - wobbling score (each three consecutive frames with input patterns "left-right-left" or "right-left-right" scores 1 point) - percentage of skipped bosses - airtime score (each frame the player character does not touch the ground scores 1 point) - amount of text - amount of nudity - gore score (each red pixel that depicts blood scores 1 point) - off-screen score (each frame the player character is off-screen scores 1 point) - friendship score (each frame where two or more character sprites overlap each other scores 1 point) - sleep score (each frame that the player character is asleep scores 1 point) - number of seen robots - math score (each changed number on screen scores 1 point) - size of the largest used weapon relative to the size of the player character - number of used teleports - number of walljumps - talk score (1 point is scored each time the player character says something) - number of times the music is interrupted before it has reached the loop point - number of played sound effects - number of silent frames - number of collected items that were not used - number of jelly beans - swim score (each frame the player is in water scores 1 point) - junkie score (1 point is scored each time the player character uses a potion/medikit/mushroom/jelly bean...) - Chuck Norris score (number of frames the player character is invulnerable) - number of alleged alien abductions - amount of poop - fashion score (1 point is scored for each different hair style or costume presented in the movie) - emo score (1 point is scored for each frame that depicts teenage angst) - religion score (1 point is scored for each frame the player character prays, attends a sacrament or kills heretics [10 extra points are awarded in the case that the player character is a god]) - Harry Potter score (1 point is scored for each used spell) Please let us know, if you calculated some movies in these categories. By the way, the emo score for the current A Boy and His Blob TAS is two points!

- wobbling score (each three consecutive frames with input patterns "left-right-left" or "right-left-right" scores 1 point)
ALttP?
- number of walljumps
Batman.
- friendship score (each frame where two or more character sprites overlap each other scores 1 point)
Rush'n'Attack! Except that they're clearly more than just friends.
- talk score (1 point is scored each time the player character says something)
If I'm not mistaken, Deja Vu and those other interactive novels Randil TASed would be the winners here.
- amount of poop
Terranigma would win this hands down... if we had a Terranigma TAS.
- number of times the music is interrupted before it has reached the loop point
Final Fantasy. C'mon.
- religion score (1 point is scored for each frame the player character prays, attends a sacrament or kills heretics [10 extra points are awarded in the case that the player character is a god])
Actraiser, surely. An Engrish score would be good, too. Most pure gibberish disguised as English wins.

Maybe, but none of that can be calculated automatically, so no chance. (Well, scores based on key input is theoretically possible, but nobody has yet made the necessary routines to parse the different movie files for this...)

Yes: The more nudity, the better. ;) Is there any non-pornographic console (only including those being possible to TAS) game where there is nudity, even if briefly? Women in very tiny clothing surely, but nudity per se? I seem to remember that at least some FF game, at least the original uncensored Japanese version, had some fiend with bare breasts or something like that?

RCR has a graphics glitch where a saleslady at a store is naked and covering herself with her hands for 2 frames, then looks normal. I'll try to post a screenshot.

The Japanese version of Super Castlevania IV (Akumajo Dracula) does. Can't remember if Dracula XX did or not. It's been a while since I played the Japanese version, but I'm reasonably sure Final Fantasy VI did in the form of either a boss or Esper (if not both), as well.
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>

the faries in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask (i believe) always scared me, with their leopard breasts and crazy, orgasmic, screams... or maybe they laughed at the size of young link's sword...?

No, but there's still Goonies II which (as the screenshot depicted, last I remembered) features a topless loli mermaid.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Under "Rating data", would anyone else think it would be interesting to see the average entertaining/technical rating for each console? It might also be interesting to see the average entertaining/technical rating for all movies on TASvideos. What do you think? I, personally, am interested in what kind of distribution the ratings have (probably normal distribution, but you never know), and also what the standard deviation is. But that's probably just me...

That would be interesting, particularly in light of the "how much material is left?" thread.

One I would like to see is number of times the player dies but the death isn't taken off the death counter, either because of a glitch, or something happens to interrupt it. Obviously, Tails dying doesn't count.

It would be interesting, but I think the only way to do this would be to manually check every movie, so there would be quite a lot of work involved.

isn't this just a hack with the graphics changed? I've used a nude hack to watch a TAS of Little Mermaid, but I hardly think that counts, ha.

Yes, I obviously meant legit, original commercial (and non-pornographic) games, even if they had a limited distribution (which in practice means it was only distributed in Japan, and if it was distributed in the US, it was censored).

Try Sega Genesis, the Japanese version of Mystic Defender (called Kujaku-oh 2, I think). The lady you save at the end is completely nude. EDIT: I appear to misremember, after watching Aqfaq's new Mystic Defender (U) movie, it seems that the lady is naked also in that version.

There may be a mistake in the rerecord count per movie lenght calculations. If I'm right, it seems that it is calculated so that it does not consider the difference of making rerecords in 30 fps, 50 fps and 60 fps games. For a 60 fps game 1200 rerecords / minute = 20 rerecords / second = 0,333... rerecords / frame For a 30 fps game 1200 rerecords / minute = 20 rerecords / second = 0,666... rerecords / frame The frame count should be used in the calculations, because it gives the real density of the rerecords. The current calculation method gives lower rerecord density for games that run at 30 fps, which is not fair for the authors of those movies. Correct me, if I'm wrong.
