It's been submitted. I'm not really surprised that y'all wanted it that way, though. (This is pretty much why I've had it for two months but didn't say much about it.)

I am interested in that movie as well. So, when is it ready for download? Greets; Calist0.

It already is, from http://tasvideos.org/queue.cgi?id=690 . If you want an AVI, you'll have to wait until someone encodes it, of course.

I'm trying out a Zelda II TAS at the moment, and so far it's going really good. A lot of the time I shaved off comes from the fact that there is no loading points in the NES version compared to the Famicom version. Anyhow, here is the first WIP, if you're interested I could keep working on this to make it a full run. Oh, and as you'll notice when watching the movie, I don't use the left+right trick for this run, since I'd like to make this run look as "real" as possible. Although if you'd like I could redo it all and use the left+right trick. Here's the WIP Emulator used: FCEU Ultra 0.98.12-blip ROM name: Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (U).nes Please comment if you find anything that could be improved or changed.

Have you considered these threads on this forum? - Zelda II under ten minute! - Zelda no Densetsu 2: Link no Bouken

I searhed the forum looking for a thread named "Zelda II - The adventure of Link" and forgot the japanese name. Sorry about starting a new topic for the same game... However, since this is a run of the english version, which name actually is "Zelda II - The adventure of Link", perhaps this thread-name fits better. If you'd like, Bisqwit, I could of course continue this discussion on the thread "Zelda no Densetsu 2: Link no Bouken" if you think that would be better.

I think it's fine to keep discussion for your run in this thread, you have the links there for reference though in case something crops up. And I wouldn't worry about left+right, since we have a run that demonstrates it anyway, and unless you plan on using some other abusive glitches I wouldn't worry about it. I think it'll be good to see a standard run for this anyway, especially since it won't be a famtasia run.

Yeah, I'm getting kind of tired of watching runs with loads of glitches, this run is meant to be a "standard" Zelda 2 run. I don't think a full run of Zelda 2 using the left+right glitch would be interesting to watch anyway, since the viewer would have a hard folowing Link. And yes, I agree that it would be nice to have a Zelda 2 run in .fcm format instead of .fmv. Plus, the .avi-quality will be a little better too! :)

The first part of this is quite easy to do, so here's the updated WIP I'm having some trouble manipulating luck in this game, such as what kind of enemies appear on the world map. Perhaps someone could help me with this?

are you considering doing the jump + fairy spell glitch? Its fairly standard (been around awhile at least) and hasn't been exploited. The left+right glitch made it obsolete and usesless for a glitched run. Anyway, palace 3 and 6 have some places that could save time doing this.

Could you explain the jump + fairy spell glitch please? I'm not familiar with that... Here are some problems I've run into so far: 1. I'm experiencing some lag in the first cave (around frame 1400). This probably can't be avoided, but it still bugs me. 2. I have to wait for the black blob to pass me on the world map (around frame 2320). This costs me around 15 frames. So far I know how to manipulate luck to avoid this, however, that luck manipulation costs me more than 15 frames to perform, therefor I wait those 15 frames. I'd really like to know how to manipulate luck in this game without it costing me any time. 3. I get hit by the "wolfman" (or whatever he is) in the second cave when I'm holding up the trophee (around frame 3300). I don't see how this can be avoided though.

jump + fairy spell glitch: use jump spell, find a high ledge and jump until link is completely off of the screen. At that time use the fairy spell. If successful, link will "fall" and end up in a random place. The most famous example is in darunia. Get on top of a tall house and do it and you will end up in a glitched town. Walk out of that town and you will be out in the middle of the ocean on the world map, unable to move. In palaces this can be performed in several places. Usually you end up in the room under the one you were in. (As though you fell through a hole in the floor). This has several applications where you could save time. I hope that makes sense. If not I could try to make a quick .fcm file to demonstrate it.

I think I see what you're talking about adelikat, but it would be nice if you cold post a .fcm so I don't misunderstand anything. I changed tactics in the seconds cave, this time I don't get hit by the wolfman plus I kill two enemies on the way out. This cost me a total of 30 frames, which isn't that much, and on the upside, I now have 20 exp. and a full life bar. I'll submit an updated WIP later today. Right now, I am 30 seconds and 10 exp ahead of Arc's run.

Hi Randil. Great to hear you are 30 seconds ahead of Arc's run. Just wanted to ask or to check with you if you are gonna take advantage of every possible glitch and trick there is to finish the game faster than Arc? Would be so great to see if you managed to improve as much as you can.

Hello to you Angerfist. I plan take advantage of every glitch I can find in this game, as long as it saves me some time of course. But I won't be using the left+right technique for moving amazingly fast though, I don't think it would be interesting to watch a full run of this game that abuses that technique. If anyone knows of a timesaving glitch that I could use you are more than welcome to share it, personally, I don't know of that many glitches in this game. Here is the latest WIP I calculated wrong before, this run is 23 seconds ahead of Arc's run ATM.

http://www.adelikat.com/Temp on this page is the .fcm file for the fairy glitch One thing I forgot to mention: once you use the fairy spell you have to press up in order to make link fall. In recording this .fcm I stumbled on to something very interesting. All other times I've tried this I ended up somewhere else in the palace, typically at the beginning screen but stuck in the wall, making it useless. In this case I ended up in palace 1! Notice when you watch it. The color scheme is still blue like the 2nd palace, but I've been tranported to the 1st! This seems to be a more powerful glitch than I thought. I do think you should use it because this glitch could easily be done by a human on the regular console with a regular controller. (as opposed to the super-glitched run) [edit] This glitch works on any screen that has an open roof and a ledge that allows you to jump off of the screen. Where you end up depends on where in the screen you use the glitch. jumping to the left one square might send you to a completely different screen. If you are going to use this, experminent and find all the possiblities of each screen.

I just watched your fcm, adelikat, and I think that the jump + fairy spell glitch may turn out to be quite useful. I'm gonna have to check this out more. I also have to do a little more planning about what enemies that I should kill, since you need more exp to level up the attack skill in the english version than in the japanese FDS version. EDIT: Worked some more today, currently 50 seconds faster than Arc's run. I know I'm posting a lot of WIP:s but I hope you don't mind... Here 's the latest WIP

I would prefer if you didn't use that fairy glitch as well. As far as moves like that goes, I'd only want to see maybe the damage boost in the last palace that lets you walk over a wall.

Personally, I don't really care if I use it or not. As of right now, you don't want me to use it and adelikat wants me to use it. So perhaps we should wait and see what other people have to say about this matter. After all, there will still be awhile in the run before I'm even able to use the jump + fairy glitch anyway.

I've seen this trick on one or more sites. For example, here. It's also on David Wonn's site.

using this glitch would change the run from almost the very beginning. As you see in the .fcm file when you exit palace one you end up at palace 2. Using this glitch you could skip palace one. get jump, & fairy spell Go to palace 2, glitch into palace 1. complete palace 1. walk out and immediately back in to return to palace 2. beat palace 2. This would save you the time it takes to walk to and from palace 1. I tested it and it takes at least 48 seconds to make that walk.
