I would say it definately would be longer.
Josh the FunkDOC wrote:
kopernical: That is true, but then you have to remember than level-ups are less frequent in the US version. Not too sure how that balances out...
Why does that matter? You asked for things that could be done faster in the US version. That is one. We all know that levelling up will be slower.

If it's that certain that the US version would be faster, and it has pretty much the same content minus the load times, why wasn't it chosen instead?

Whenever Link tries to get on an elevator, famtasia pauses and a popup comes up saying "Unknown opcode FF at 06D6". This is a real obstacle since you need to use the elevators to get through the game.

Even people with DSL or cable or BBB or what ever they have. Some people need to pay per MB! Like New Zeeland. I'm from Sweden so I don't bother much. We're pretty spoiled when it comes to fast internet and cheap solutions. Sure. Some better quality would be good to see. But I can understand that they wanna keep the sizes down a bit.

As far as level ups go, I was just thinking that bosses would take longer in general due to lower attack levels. Also, with lower magic levels I was wondering if you may not be able to abuse Fairy as much as you'd like, but maybe you can... -Josh

well attack level ups tend to cost alot of exp in the us version, so thats a small hitch in the plan, I'd suggest masive manipulation of dropped items (blue bottles every 6th enemy would help) and mapping out where every hidden bottle is and remeber when you die you get all your mp back so that might speed things up a bit I used to play through the game in one sitting , and generally I hit all 8's by the time i got to level 6...so if you avoid life ups you could easily do it just concentrate on magic level ups annother thing that would be interesting to see is a second quest run through (once you beat the game you can play through it again with your spells and levels, could be fun to see how fast it could be done then)

That would be pretty cool actually. Twin Galaxies has a record for this, I think. -Josh

Seriously. My new apartment is too far away from the nearest line relay to get DSL, and cable is $45 a month. Fuck that, I'd have to quit my job and be online 12 hours a day to justify paying that. Screw the AVIs, I watch the emulator replays. Those download in an instant and they look a million times better.

Just wanna state that the Link no Bouken run was nice and I liked it. Especially the trick to skip world map hidden battle area parts by getting to fight with enemy at the same spot was nice, and the elevator+attack to gain distance.

Does this work well with FCEU? If it does, would anyone be interested in taking this up? Even though Arc's run of the Japanese version is awesome, I'm personally much more familiar with the US version and would like to see it done, too.

I find a glitch, a powerful glitch, with it we can pass throught door, walk about 4 time faster, be stuck in wall then climb up in. The technique, press left and right at the same time, the screen will shake and wait until the good frame comme and realease, you will slide realy, realy fast. The screen will be screwed up and other thing may I make a video but I don't know how to post it, if want it, explain me how to put it in the thread PS: It work on american version, don't know if it work on Japanese

It's just left+right at the same time. You can also use it to jump over the Saria river. And you can use up+down at the same time to use elevators about twice as fast. This is known.

Unless it's specific to certain versions of Zelda 2, he's right. I just experimented a bit using Phil's Modified FCEU...recorded me experimenting (I didn't do slowdown or anything): http://www.kraftfam.org/~erk/misc/zelda2.zip As you can see I... -can zoom either to the right or to the left at light speed if timed right... -can walk in that direction to keep the speed up (apparently)... -still crash into enemies... -can use the glitch to warp through doors... -glitch the drawing graphics when I warp that fast I wasn't able to test with the japanese version, though, but... *drool* EDIT: Ah, but Boco would know more about it, heh.

The same sort of bug exists in Tiny Toons Adventures, and so there are _two_ separate AVIs available for it, one using the bug and one not using it.

Woha! Nice glitch indeed. Why wasn't it used for the last run as it was known? I suppose there will be a new run where one really exploits this alot eh?

I start a run but I can't post a sample of it, if you can tell to me how put a video file in the post I will show is potential... I see your example(Gigafrost), in my run I go like 5 time faster in sliding, you just need to wait for the frame, hard to explain.

because, under normal circumstances, it's impossible to press left and right (or up and down) on the same controller simultaneously. it is, imo at least, closer to "cheating" than anything else done in the games, as it takes advantage of a "broken" controller (an external device) rather than working within the confines of the game itself. i suppose that people have their own preferences, but its use makes the videos less enjoyable for me.

I knew about it before even making my first version of the run. I didn't want to use it because it's not a "fair" playing of the game - I was more interested in how to exploit the level system and the shortest human-possible path than glitching the game to assure easy victory. You can also use it on the world map to walk through "spiked" tiles.

Tiles that force encounters, but once the encounter is over return you to the same space (so not like caves).

Of course, most of the spiked tiles can be manipulated to be easier by setting up a random encounter as you walk to it, since the random setups are generally shorter than the fixed ones.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

I would love to see someone make a blazing-zoom-warp run of this game. :) And Boco.. About "cheating". If that would be cheating, than most of everything here would be. But thats another discussion. I thought this site showed movies to entertain, not to do stuff humanly possible. I also thought we exploited the limmits of the actual console games. Hardly no movie on this site could be replayed by a human on a regular console right? There for I don't see it as cheating. Getting back to this topic now then. Wonder how many minutes that glitch would shave off from the current run? Considering you don't need any keys, walking and elavators goes super fast.

walking through the "spiked" tiles under the river devil ought to shave some significant time as well. it seems you could skip the magic key as well. also the fairy glitch can be exploited as well (using the jump spell to jump off of the top of the screen and using fairy). i found several places in the palaces that allow you to fall to the screen below, saving valuable time add all these glitch up and this could be well under 20 minutes
