Although the only goal is the first of these, it also satisfies a few other categories inadvertantly:
  • Aims for fastest time
  • No death
  • Takes no damage
  • Pacifist
  • Uses warps
And unlikely it does not satisfy the usual categories:
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Manipulates luck

  • Genre: Platform
  • Genre: Sport (that's what the previous movie is listed under anyways)
  • Genre: Puzzle

Description:

The description for the previous published movie was perfect. Although there is one thing I feel it should mention: The moving blocks are not on a timer, they are moved by weight. (I didn't understand this after first watching the movie)

Thanks

Thanks goes to Blechy and Bob Whoops for providing a great base run to work off of. And thanks to Nitsuja for his level 1 demo as a reference and his work on snes9x. Also thanks Boco for showing us the game in the first place (and maps and route stuff too).

Making the Movie

Making this video was very challenging. I saw Blechy's comment in his submission: "I think it's safe to say we've pushed the game to its limits." This is what inspired me to do the run, because I knew that a game this crazy is never pushed to the limits. My version is still far from perfect (I don't know of any specific places to save frames, but they exist none the less).
It never ceased to amaze me how completely different methods could end up being so near in time, for instance, in the first level, I start completely different than Nitsuja does and it ends up only about 8 frames faster. Later, the level with the sea horses, is also done completely different and it saves only 10 frames (I was fortunate to discover that method because I was having a real hard time matching Blechy).
Grab some popcorn and enjoy the movie! You might not have time for the popcorn though!

Six seconds is a nice amount of time to shave off. However, let it be known that I hate damn near everything about this fruity excuse for a game, including the visuals, music, and "ending", regardless of how good the gameplay is. Vote yes, but not for a star. I'm still baffled at that.

TOTAL CARNAGE! EXTREME! Voted yes. For star too. Eventhough it's not possible.

That's the second biggest monkey head I've ever seen. Err... wait, wrong game... Oh yes it's this game, now I understand why the main character didn't look like Mr.Threepwood. Great run Flagitious. Yes vote and it should have a star!

Nice work. I'm surprised that the strategy you chose in 36 was actually faster than the previous one. 52 was also nice.

Funny it took more time to obtain the rom than it did to watch the movie. And I still don't get wtf this game is really about. :\ Regardless, this owns. It's entertaining and definately worthy of star status. Mad props.

Simply put, a girl is supposed to navigate the puzzles with her fishing rope and to enter the door of choice. Some stages have a "boss" which usually (if not always) means that she has to survive for a few minutes while the boss is moving everywhere. She can push and pull the enemies around with the fishing rope. Some stages have multiple doors, which lead into different stages. There are a few ending stages and a few boss stages. These are mapped here: http://tasvideos.org/UmiharaKawaseFieldMap.html

Wow, I'm unable to download it right now but 6 seconds? Insane. Looking forward to watching it, and great job beating the time by so much, absolutely nuts. After the last time when this game was driving me nuts, I don't think I'll be trying to beat it. :D Once again, great work, and can't wait to see it.

I love how the credits take up more time of the published .avi than the actual playing. :) Umihara Kawase & UK Shun are two of my favourite games ever, so awesome.

Thanks for the positive comments, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. PS: it's actually closer to 5 than 6 seconds (5.35) improvement, but seeing 6 makes me happy...

Holy cow, I wouldn't have thought there were anywhere near six seconds to spare in this, congratulations. Also, anyone who disses this game has clearly not played it enough! It's very fascinating to me.
