Now it's proabbly too soon for a run of this. But I would dearly love for someone to figure out how the battle system works (comboing).

I completely forgot about that. Anyway, I need to do a run of the first two first (if no-one else does).

Hey yeah! But which versions of the first two? I don't remember if the unreleased English NES cartridge was okay to use.

I believe it froze up in certain places, so I'd probably have to do it in japanese. English sucks anyway.

So the fixed ROM isn't okay?

It only freezes in NESticle. More accurate emulators like FCEU run the unmodified prototype without difficulty. .....but still, what's the deal with combos in Mother 3 !?

I thought you'd talk about the gba version...

But the GBA version of Mother 1 doesn't make you move in tile style! That's too nutty for me.

No, an Earthbound without Ninten is hardly an Earthbound at all.

I think the big problem is that the game is japanese, and I can't understand even a comma...

Then you'd better start turning Japanese! I really think so!

A friend of mine, Ricky, is planning to translate Mother 3, especially if an english version isn't made, here's his post from another forum:
So, I figured I'd get a head-start on this incase Nintendo dropped the ball and decided NOT to release Mother 3 in English. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Uu9kXMCalxw That's what is done thus far, some people in IRC have seen it already. Etc, etc. Mostly, I'm doing internal work so all that will be left is actual script dumping, translation.
Probably nothing. Meh.

Well Kaitou and I are (maybe) going to go back after we beat it and write a walkthrough / translation guide. I still really don't understand the combo system even after putting enemies to sleep to hear their heartbeat (which is apparently the beat to combo). But it seems like it could be abused to defeat enemies without them ever getting a turn for a TAS.

Something I noticed while using savestates to practice combos... There's a prompt for every battle message, like "Flint attacks! (continue-arrow)". That's where I save and load state while trying to get combos on this difficult system. :P Anyway, what I noticed was that depending on whether or not you combo(or, perhaps, how many hits you get off in a combo), it seems you can manipulate the enemy's next action that way. I reloaded a turn ten or more times with two separate consistent results, based on single-hitting and getting a 2-combo: 1.) Flint attacks! (one hit); enemy uses PSI and 2.) Flint attacks! (2-combo); enemy attacks normally The damage is also consistent; on one turn, I got a 57-damage SMAAAAASHing attack everytime I reloaded that turn, and this goes for normal damage as well. Combo damage doesn't seem to be consistent that way though. Another little thing: in this game, you can see your enemies on the field like in EarthBound, and get a green/blue/red swirl under the same circumstances, but in Mother 3, you have a LOT more frames in which you can turn your character around after they touch an enemy before the battle swirl sets in.

What's the max combo you can get abusing savestates and frame advance? I haven't tried yet but people on GameFAQs are claiming natural 16-hits. I did a 14-hit once. EDIT: Of course with Flint it's probably best to use his crit-or-miss technique instead of comboing, and manipualting it to always hit for 150+ damage. Or at least use his offense booster so the comboed hits will be doing better than single-digit. For chapter 1 at least (I'm in chapter 2).

Max combo you can get with any of the regular party members on a normal attack is 16, according to the GameFAQs boards(there's applause after the 16th hit).

I don't know about anyone else, but I can hardly wait for a full English Translation, or a patch of this game. I can't read Japanese, so yeah.. I downloaded the rom a few days ago, hehe. Just need it translated. ;3 But, I would love to see a run for any game in the Mother series.

Yes, there's a topic on the second page, but I don't like resurrecting topics, especially when they're approaching a year old. I'm busy with the original Mother right now, but in the meantime I'm working on a walkthrough run of every chapter of Mother 3. I have the Prologue - Chapter 2 done. Once I get Chapter 8 finished and over with I'll put them all up. The runs are designed to show an optimal route through each chapter. The one thing I'm doing though is using the game's Debug Menu to make all my party members level 99 (so I can skip battles and mow down bosses). Right now my total time for the Prologue - Chapter 2 is 1:07:09. This is the shortest route (I think) with level 99 characters, so I estimate the TAS to be a good 5-6 hours long. I'm taking notes on my walkthroughs and I'll include it when I put up the files. Keep in mind I may not put up the files for a long time (due to certain events and other projects I have going).
If you see me posting, I'm most likely being a douche. Working on: not ever coming here again

I will have to wait until one of the Translation Patches are done before playing this game. I kept getting stuck somewhere either late in CHapter 1 or early in Chapter 2. Odds of an English Translation by Nintendo are very slim. I guess EarthBound didn't do well here...

Why the hell create a new topic to discuss about the same freaking thing?! Even if the old topic is one year old it's not bad in any way.
