Drew, honestly, you don't have to swear to that extreme about that. It's your hack, and if you see a graphical glitch or any other error it's always good to fix that (at least as long our incomplete movies won't desync after it). Your v2.1 update was a good decision in any case, and I'm glad I can continue my run on it.

I dunno, I don't see this as being a big TAS-worthy game. Watched a bit of Saturn's WIP and I was bored pretty easily, even though it's all the same moves and manoeuvres from the other TASes. It's something about the maps. While incredible in design, there are just too many falls (at least from what I saw, my Snes9x crashed halfway through), and I personally think the rooms are too big. Of course, don't let one man's opinion stop you from doing what you want. Both the hack and the TAS are incredible, so keep doing what's right ^_^
If you see me posting, I'm most likely being a douche. Working on: not ever coming here again

this hack is freaking huge, and it starts quite slow. Later on, there are a couple of impressive TAS-only sequence-breaks, and it'll get more interesting from then onwards. You could hunt down atma's or Drew's WIPs from earlier in this thread to see a small preview of things to come. Like most TAS, you need to play the game to truly appreciate everything that's going on. Otherwise you wouldn't recognize some shortcuts or sequence breaks. If you liked Super Metroid, I can really recommend playing this one. It's not easy, but probably the best hack there is.

Exactly what Tub said. Redesign offers countless mindbreaking possibilities in both, route and speed-tricks, which will make a awesome TAS with very much variety like in no other hack. One good example you can already see in this update! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3949/Saturn_-_SMR_TAS_-_till%20Norfair.smv It shows a absolutely unexpected and crazy way how to get the High Jump Boots early and abuse the Spring Ball to its fullest to increase the speed through some rooms extremely badly. Also perfect use of the Charge Beam to save Missiles, and hopefully a optimal ammo management in general. I recomment to use the latest Redesign v2.1 version to not risk desyncs. Enjoy!

Just finished watching that smv. Very fine work Saturn, that was highly enoyable. I just downloaded this hack yesterday and just recently started playing it. I've only gotten the missiles and morph ball. The physics take their time to learn. (more gravity, huh?)

Excellent underwater navigation. I especially liked that mockball to hidden 10-missile pack.

Looks good so far Saturn! I have the latest version, though I thought something was wrong when SNES9x gave me 'mismatch' when I tried to play the movie. It still worked without desyncing though. I'm looking forward to seeing how fast you can finish it. I remember the original walkthrough movie being pretty long. How much do you think you can cut down from it?

Saturn, Drewseph and I in our wonderful little SMR TASing laboratory (lol) have just invented a very good route which will hopefully bring us sub-1:00 — that is, it should cut off more than 12 minutes off the beta-TAS. Also, I didn't say it officially, but I put my version on hold at least until Saturn's is ready (or until I run out of other things to run).

I was told the mock-springball could save time, but this is ridiculous. Very nice.

There are two different versions for the hack, one for the headered rom and one for the unheadered. Both are completely equal except for said header, and thus a different crc. Saturn's SMV contains the CRC of the headered rom, probably still from version 2.0 final. If you use 2.1 and/or the unheadered rom, you'll end up with a different CRC and a mismatch-warning. Don't worry, if it played back fine this time, it'll play back fine in the future.

Could you upload an avi of this somewhere? I am eagerly awaiting this run but I can't view smv files. Thanks.

Download the emulator, then download the rom (sorry, can't give links), open the rom in the emulator, and then play the smv file.

I will try to upload a AVI tomorrow. And thanks everybody for the nice comments. As moozooh said, I aim for sub 1:00 hour with our newest route. :-) EDIT: YouTube Video of "WIP 2" for now EDIT 2: Argh, probably needs to wait for a couple of hours before it gets up there...

I tried to watch Saturns WIP, it desyncs right at the beginning of Ceres Station, he fails to jump off of the elevator and gets stuck against a wall. I've tried patching "Super Metroid (JU) [!].swc" with both the 2.1 Headered ROM patch, which gave the above events, and the headerless ROM patch, which failed to even load the game. :/ Any ideas what I should do? CRC for the Movie ROM is 895F19ED CRC for the ROM I tried to use to play it is 54A290FF Edit: Using Snes9Xw-improvement9 Edit 2: Nevermind, I just fixed the problem. Must have used the wrong IPS patch the first time around >.<.

Thanks Saturn. Are you aiming for sub 1 hour game time or real time? Real time would be amazing, but after watching Drewseph's speedrun I don't even think it'd be possible. Thanks again for uploading an avi.

WINE + snes9x works fine on linux, I guess it shouldn't be a problem on a mac.

ingame. drewseph's WIP was 1h49 real time, getting that sub 1 just won't happen.

It's surprising how different the feel is of this TAS compared to the standard Super Metroid. Looking good, and it can only get better with that new toy you just got :D

I thought of something lately... Redesign kinda reminds me of ZM in form of Super Metroid: -You can start spinning in air after jumping straight up by pressing jump just like in ZM -There's more gravity and the physics remind me of ZM -You get morph ball jumping ability with high jump, ZM anyone? I've just thought of this pretty long.
