(EDIT 2: Dan's making much better runs of this game, head to the last page for his ones ^^) Altered Beast Rev 02 in 07:40 Well, continuing my trend of putting my scrolling-beat-em-up skills to recordings, I just attacked Altered Beast, with a final result of 7 minutes and 40 seconds. Seeing how Altered Beast is pretty empty of features, there's not much more I can say, except that I killed every enemy that appeared on-screen. An interesting note: There's a cheat code in Altered Beast, which lets you select which beast you will transform into on each level. Personally, I regard this as a cheat, so didn't bother with it. However, for someone with more imagination and less morals, you could likely get a MUCH better time by choosing beasts that compliment bosses perfectly. ^_^

I am in the process of making a better version. Here are my times, with the improvement over your time next to them. The times were measured when the words "100000 pts" disappear from the screen." level 1 - 1:25 - 10 sec. faster level 2 - 2:38 - 15 sec. faster level 3 - 3:58 - 30 sec. faster level 4 - 5:40 - 47 sec. faster

Very impressive ^_^ How did you gain 15 seconds on the second level though? Considering it auto-scrolls, and the boss practically dies instantly, I'm not sure how you can speed up the pace.

i think that when there are no enemies on the screen it scrolls faster. at least for level 1 it works that way

Yup, that's the ticket to a faster time, killing enemies faster.

Final time = 6:44.33, which is an improvement of about 56 seconds. If anybody knows a good website where I can put my movies on so you can download them, I would appreciate it if you let me know. It's a lot easier for you to download them than for me to email them to you.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Gens presses pause once the movie ends for no reason. Just unpause it and it'll work fine.

it's because you pause gens using the quickpause button... you must play the movie, and start re-recording be fore the pause and stop movie before the pause so you can remove it

I just watched both movies. Nice work, but there's room for improvement. Dan's movie is much faster (especially against the bosses) but there's too much frantic movement; excessive punching and kicking that hit no one. With a little more economy of offense, this movie will be better.

Don't despair. I know how it feels to be beaten... >_< Seriously though, here is my big suggestion to ANYONE doing this game, based on the two movies so far: Only attack when you have to. Don't jump and kick 4 times to hit one guy...just time it right and kick once. Likewise, while you're waiting for the boss to transform, please don't attack repeatedly at nothing. It's very noisy!

Yeah, the only reason I do that is so that I can hit them at the earliest possible time. I don't play with sound on, so the noise factor doesn't effect me at all :)

Holy moly, this is the oldest thread to not be bumped in the genesis forums. anyway, I WAS going to improve the current publication, however I found out the current pub doesnt use hard mode, so that means I'll have to make a movie from scratch. Luckily NESRocks had some memory addresses for all the bosses, and I found one that has the amount of enemies on screen, that address will be really important to optimize screen srolling. here's the first level I have so far: Link to video

I have finished the game, but it's far from being optimized. I made some changes to the first stage and kinda blasted through the rest of the game. I will spend time thinking of different routes and things that can kill enemies faster. Link to video

I saved 5 seconds from the last WIP, I think this is good enough to submit a this point, but I want to find a few more improvements before I do that: Link to video
