Hi all... Me and my friend took a big project month ago and are doing good.. We can make it to the end of time in bit over 45 mins (anyone who knows this game, knows how fast it is).. I'm just asking now that is it going to be too long... We are currently planning best course for collecting levels, but it's pretty hard to go under 2h. I would like to know that if anyone here is allready doing this run, or is willing to help us with ideas about the game.We think that with better routing we can get under 2h easily, but it's going to be tough. Comments please. Thank you.

Oh and one more thing... Does anyone have any tips in scrolling the menus fast. We are wasting like 20mins in just equiping the characters with best weapons. :/ and that sucks. Is there anything or anyone that can make it go a little faster. I can do the change pretty fast now, but i think i'm in my human limits right now, living with coca-cola and all that :)

How about slowing the emu speed?

I've been thinking of creating a Chrono Trigger run, but I'm not as far as you yet. But I can't guarantee yet that my site will handle that kind of movies.

Hmm i have been thinking that, but the key combination system on zsnes looks promising.. I'ts just hard to time them right. And the key combination system sometimes bugs and goes into wrong menus... I'ts kinda annoying.

Key combination took me hella time to get right. It's nice for automation of certain tasks. For example, from the WINGUI.TXT in the win32 port, ZSNES is able to do certain things. However with menus you need to create the "shortest path" for menu animations. Most animations for menus are not under 9 frames however, the only way i know of to increment frames is thru F1, since "slowdown" currently only goes to 50% speed, that is 30 fps. Feel free to check out the IRC link at the top of the page. :)

There is a chrono trigger speedrun of the whole game on Zophar.net (in ZSNES movie format). Might be useful.

Well, you could just do a New Game+ and skip directly from the Millennial Fair to Lavos, but... That's not cool.

But New Game+ is not available until you have already beated the game once. Recursive requirement.

' We actually considered that a week ago, but it started to sound so stupid that we abandoned it.

Thanks. I'm using the Linux version, and your movie works fine. Doesn't the"Lucca's inventions never work right" message waste time? Also, your reactions in battles seemed to be somewhat slow. Like if you played it in real time. Also, I'm not 100% certain, but I think you could have used a shorter route through the forest... Also, I think you could have delayed your first equipment setup until you do more of that at once. Also, you're not very time-effective in battles. You keep characters idle while waiting for double techniques to be enabled. I'm not impressed of the battle with Yakra. But the movie had lots of potential! I liked to see some of the attack techniques used precisely and intelligently. EDIT: Moved messages from Sampyla's Chrono Trigger thread to this thread.

Yeah but remember that it's my first ever attempt to make a timeattack and a first movie :) Yeah the battle speed is too sloppy right now. Have to fix that. "Lucca's inventions never work right" message? The forest route is the shortest.. And i have to avoid the battles before i get lucca so it's the best.. Believe me. That equipment thing might be good.. I might just try it. The reason why i wait for double techniques is simply because they save time. I use the right skills on enemies so that they make 3x times more damage than they make normally. But i'm not sure what is the fastest way. AAAND the horrible Yakra battle is because i killed wrong monsters. If it would have gone right i wouldn't have used slurp to heal because Yakra would have atttacked lucca. Strange. Got to see what monsters did that to the ai. And before the Yakra i messed the shelter usage. But this goes off topic, but i had to answer :)

I am really looking forward to this one, as I like long, juicy RPGs enough to also enjoy watching other people play long, juicy RPGs. I am a bit curious on the intended playing style, though. I personally feel that, for a run upwards of 5-6 hours (guesstimate), just gunning for time isn't going to provide an entertaining vid. Genisto's Dragon Warrior run brought a few chuckles and was a very impressive time attack but I doubt I could find the patience to watch a few hours of that particular brand of perfection. Rather, I'd like to see something like a save-state improved version of the run Saturn did for zsnes 0.989c, which I found most enjoyable until it out-of-synced two hours or so in. I.e., an inhumanly perfect guidebook rather than inhumanly perfect speed run. 'course, this would not qualify as much of a time attack, but I think it'd make a better video. So, some questions. Will you use savestates to effect game randomness - all critical hits/misses for you/enemies and such? Will you go through the game in entirety or just beat Lavos as soon as the party is strong enough? Will you let text messeges stay up long enough to be read? Will you do non-required, non-speed-enhancing side-quests? [Disclaimer: I'm stating fanboi preferences and trying to give (admittedly selfish) tips, not trying to make demands. I ask questions because: 1) I think people'd like to know. 2) if he doesn't make the video I'd most like to see, I might have to make it myself and I really don't have the time to do that without extensive scheduling :p] Ah, well - 's not like I'll be able to keep myself from watching no matter what is produced. Good skill!

if i may just put in my 2 cents - I would like a speed-oriented one personally - if i want the whole game experience i will play it! .. as i have done before. What i'm looking for in these videos isn't necessarily a tour of the game, but showing how from start to finish they can be done as quickly as possible. Of course both runs can be good, like the SMB3 runs, one is truly as fast as possible, with warps, the other plays every level as fast as possible. Which is more perfect? who can say? Either way I think the fast way through CT will be an interesting run.

Would be, if it were, but it isn't... Ps: By once inputting a short name (like: C, L, M...) in a name entry dialog, you decrease the time used by all dialogs that display the name.

Yeah but inserting the name takes time.. I have to try it and see if it saves any seconds.. And that luccas inventions text is propably a bug that i didn't even notice in my all a clicking :)
Will you use savestates to effect game randomness - all critical hits/misses for you/enemies and such?
No I will not use the savestates to effect the fights in any way.. I savestate BEFORE the fight because there is 3 patterns that the enemies take in battle and it's randomized as you enter the battle mode (we are still working on proving that)
Will you go through the game in entirety or just beat Lavos as soon as the party is strong enough?
First we are running as fast as we can trought end of time, as soon as party gets trong enough. We intend to get the triple tech lifeline to ease the beating of lavos (lifeline gives all the nice regeneration and autolife things that prove VERY usefull, that tech is made by Chrono, Marle, Lucca). If this run goes like we want it to go we just might make a faster version of zophars run wich goes trough the whole game with all the secret items and stuff.
Will you let text messeges stay up long enough to be read?
No we will be clicking the as fast as possible, but if you are a fast reader you can read it ;)
Will you do non-required, non-speed-enhancing side-quests?
I don't really understand what you are saying here (sorry, i'm not native english speaker/reader), but we will go trough sidequests that give good weapons, because the boss fights go so much easier with the strongest weapon at that time. So we are thinking of getting the ultimate weapons for Chrono, Marle and Lucca, but they take so much time that we are first going to try without them. If you have any more questions, just ask. I'm more than willing to answerr

I think he might mean the side-quests that become available to you during the "Fated Hour" after the death of Crono, such as Ozzie's Hideout or the King Guardia Trial.

Those and other optional-yet-slowing segments of the game. For example, resurrecting Crono after his untimely demise. It sounds like this run won't feature any such bits, though. (Which is, to reiterate, fine by me - I'm trying to be curious, not complaining :)

Well this is it.. The CT project is dead... I Can't continue the project by myself and my personal life is getting all messy. I'm taking a break from everything, for a year. I might do this run later, if someone hasn't made this by then. But for now, make those damn runs ;)

I think timeattacks at RPG games are very boring.. But maybe it's beacuse I'm a rusher, not a thinker :P

So would you need to change some of the options at the beginning of the game to make some things go faster?
