So would you need to change some of the options at the beginning of the game to make some things go faster?
Mainly the dialog speed. There's no need to change the button setup (changing it takes time) because you can always change the keyboard assignment from your emulator. (Well, at least if you can compile a custom snes9x for yourself.) EDIT: Time, not tome

The battle speed, too? Or would that not be helpful?

I bet it would be. Battle speed affects everyone's action gauge (including enemies'), so they'll take turns a lot faster. It should be set to max, IMO since you don't have to worry about reaction time or planning your next move in-game.

Would it be fair if I use a level ** party from a new+ game?

Most (all that I've seen) of the timeattacks here are made with a empty starting save file, and I wouldn't bother looking at a level ** timeattack myself.

you wouldn't need savestates to do a run with ** which would consist of most of the enemies in the game falling to slashes of Chrono's Rainbow Sword.

No, we do not allow movies that begin with a preloaded save.

You could do it but won't be published here. Not very interesting because it is too easy.

Under 2 hours? That's ridiculous. I think more like 4-5 hours would be the minimum. But whatever it is, I think RPG speedruns are cool, and CT would make a good speedrun.

Well, remember, once you hit the End of Time you can access the final boss any time after that. I wouldn't be surprised at seeing a run stick their head in the bucket as soon as they got there. After that, it's just a matter of being incredibly lucky* (See: Dragon Warrior). *: Unless, of course, Lavos won't cooperate and kills you in seconds no matter how many times you try to manipulate your luck.

Using the bucket, the Giga Gaia mode will be extremely hard if you don't have proper levels... If the "destruction rains from heavens" event is controllable, the better choice might be to beat Lavos in the scene that is later returned to using the time freeze. Even though this is the hardest Lavos battle in the game.

You can get to Lavos right from the millenial fair, no? or is that just in new game +. I think there are other paths to him between that event and the end of time too(unless those are new game + as well)

I'm afraid that those "shortcuts" straight to Lavos are New Game + only... they're the ways to see the other endings.

The little dot in the Millenial fair is only available for "new game +". It is required for two of the endings - or actually one, since the first ending is invoked from two different events.

I think that, if you would "wait" that long, it'd be better to go just a little further after that, get the flying Epoch, and crash it into Lavos, thereby skipping the whole Giga Gaia bit. Of course, if you're going to use Crono you kinda need to bring him back, which is pretty time-consuming. The fact that he's part of the Lifeline tech doesn't help.

You're talking about fighting Lavos in the Undersea Palace, right? You don't fight Giga Gaia there, only when you use the bucket or the Black Omen. Anyway, I'm 99% sure that Lavos will always use the DRFTH attack at the beginning of the battle and mess up your party, and if you're not dead yet, he'll use the lightning attack, so I just don't see how it's possible to beat him here.

Not true. In a game with diverse styles and graphics, a four-hour movie *can* be entertaining to watch. For example, Super Mario RPG, which was a 3:57 movie, was entertaining to watch the entire way through to the end. That game, like Chrono Trigger, is diverse enough that it isn't boring. If a game is repetitive, though, it becomes boring. Repetition is the issue, not really speed, though speed makes repetition harder to dodge.
