Bisqwit, your avatar is changing colors… What happened to good old bluey? (Crude Simpson's reference) Actually I like the grey one too.

Yeah, it does. There is a secret function. I wrote a program which changes the palette of a PNG file. It has a purpose. The source code is <a href="http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/hloopsrc.png">here</a> (modified slightly so that it works without external settings.) It's written in PHP. --EDIT 2006-06-16--- So here's how it works. Currently. Many faces of Bisqwit… <table><tr><td><span class="postbody"><img src='http://bisqwit.iki.fi/fliers/avatar/owner/hloop1.png'>

The feature is available for users who have more than 350 posts and a few other privileged users. Explanations for the helmet colors: neutral) My favourite tone lies somewhere between blue and purple, but I want it to be neutral. playful) Green is the colour of (plant)life, hence fun / playful. The earpiece shows warmth. guru) Dark blue is a technology colour, and modern gurues are knowledgeful with technology. delight) Relatively natural colours, with gold tint denoting respect. The shadow adds some life to it. hope) The morning sun has vanquished the horrible night. The earpiece and shadow balance the cold blue. tired) Gray as in annoyed/bored to death. The red earpiece denotes rising anger. <s style="font-size:0%">What a horrible night to have a curse.</s> angry) Anger/rage makes one see red, red is also colour of fire. doom) When the fire has burnt long enough, black is what remains. Darkness also is menacing. grief) A combination of anger (diminished) and unhappiness. Bleak views. bleh) Tasteless colours. Tastelessness is lack of respect or interest. happy) -- hyperactive) -- The alt set is generated mainly with http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jsgames/avatargenerator/ . Note: This avatar set is larger than available at the posting form. In fact, I set them case-by-case basis directly to the database, sometimes.

I've seen places where somebody has a randomized avatar from a .php file thing, but now you're just being crazy.

I'd be using this if not for the restrictions on avatar size here: (hint: reload the page) Yes, PHP is cool! And Bisqwit, nice job pulling a new trick over the old random image one that some of us use.

Who else uses this kind of avatar? Maybe I make myself a new one if I find a creative way.
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

When you mentioned that, I thought the mood ring was some fictional thing, like from a Zelda game or something like that, but I was surprised when I saw what came up first in a Google search about moodrings. http://home.howstuffworks.com/question443.htm

It means someone's going to die in the firey pits of hell. Bisqwit: Yes, they're on sale here in various gas station stores for about $1.99/ea.

It doesn't work for me. I always see the blue version of the helmet.

It seems your browser caches the avatar and loads it from cache each time despite of PHP telling it to refresh.

I actually was just semi-bored and decided to make your avatar in photoshop. There's some minor change to it... but overall I think I did a decent job on it. I beefed up the size of the text a little, and left the black line surrounding the helmet, to be consistant with the inner black lines. You are welcome to use the image should you like.

I think the 12th helmet should be the ceremonial one.

Your browser (or proxy) probably has been configured to not send the referrer field with images.

Yes, but what you fail to realize is Bisqwit is actually a lobster.

Thanks, I tried that originally (before Nesvideos, when I already used that avatar theme) but it didn't look good in my opinion. And the text is intentionally small. It's not there to advertise, but to discourage someone using an identical avatar (i.e. copying the file). Ps: Unauthorized embedding of images from my server sometimes results in the images themselves changing ;) (Hint: Reload page 1)

Maybe you don't like the text change, but the added border does a lot to make it look better. I think you should considering adding it.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.
