Anyone up to this one to get the best ending (I think its $1,000,000 within year 2)? I don't have enough time to dedicate to a game like this, may not be an interesting TAS but I thought i'd throw it up in the air.

Not exactly interesting TAS material. Then again, it could be really easy to do if you can copy every day. Maybe it's possible to manipulate the weather and make it rain every day so you wouldn't have to water. I bet if you planned it out you wouldn't need to use the hot springs to make a million in two years. But you might need it early on to fill the barn early. Anyway, let's take a guess here: First spring and summer the goal is to get enough for 12 cows. You'd have to clear some area, plant grass and crops. Let's assume we can ignore the fencing! If you don't use the hot spring, I'd say about 2 minutes a day and the little guy will be pooped. So 30 days * 2 minutes = 1 hour. For the rest of the game you have to take care of the cows. I'd say about 1 minute to brush, talk to and feed 12 cows * about 180 days = about three hours of dairy time. Well, at some point you'll make the million and you can stop. Farming the second year is big money since you have better tools and the horse. But best case is that it rains every day. So let's say only about 10 or 20 minutes. So the wild guess here is around four hours of repetitive tasks. Wow, sounds pretty neat!

Maybe if you did a max $ run, along with getting married and getting full upgrades. Otherwise, probably not.

You realize that only one of the posters in this thread, aside from yourself and me, have not posted in the forums since 2008, right? Not to mention this thread is ~3 years old.

Well, no one is stopping you, so go for it! Post some WIPs and I am sure there will be some people checking them out and giving some pointers

Sum2k3, if you know how to use a normal emulator... you should quickly see that TASing stuff isn't that hard!! Anyway,t lately somebody aiming for a sort of non-tas perfect game... but no more wip now, hope that you can found interesting thing. ==> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAwPEtA6CaI&feature=related of course, there no point enternaiment in this... but seriously, who's care? Most time, I think to do music with some "synchornized jump" in super mario is almost boring that anything else... So if you going to it, you'll be pround to have THE best strategy that own everything... I should say that I playing the similar version game on game boy color, and many time I replayed some day, because I goted only junk in river while trying getting some fish and since this time... I hope to see how the perfect game could be done. So go for it!! and as sticky said, some people may help you and possibly join you while tasing this. I doubt this whole run could be done by only one person.

two questions: does anyone know how the drops are manipulated?(i mean when carving the ground or destroying a stone etc..) what is really needed for a 100% run?(is there actually a %counter in the end? or something else to see? )

erm.. i don't know right now what you mean by destroying a stone.. if you hammer on a stone it breaks into pieces and disappears. but carving the ground: I'd prefer the easy method (for me is it the easy method ..because I don't know an other xD) save before carving and reload as long there is no gold/berry.

AFAIK you need: -all 10 Power berrys -a wife -2 children -(of course) a blockhouse (3rd form) -a certain amount of shipped items (I don't know how much, but gameFAQ's surely has an answer to this) -as many as possible cows and chickens ..that's what I know, but i'm sure there has to be more for the best ending. maybe you watch the video which BadPotato mentioned a few days ago.

I made some codes for Harvest Moon some time ago, maybe you can find them useful...: http://erick.guillen.com.mx/Codes/SNES%20Harvest%20Moon.txt

i think the problem about harvest moon is : there aren't any tricks/glitches to speed this up, it would just be luck manipulation ;(!

Yup, that's the point. It is also just for entertaining, while there would be a big lack of speed(run). And that's why I don't want to do this.

I'd love to see this done too, but as many said, it wouldn't be a speedrun. A speedrun would just use the diary as fast as possible to make it to the end, which would be incredibly boring. The other option would be to go for a "perfect game". Damjee on youtube is currently working on a console perfect game, and I quite like watching his videos. However, I doubt that, if turned into a TAS, the same could be said. It would basically just be a slightly faster version of what he's doing. Here's his playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A3015649E69CCC86 He's laid out some "ground rules" for a perfect game. I'll list them here so we don't have to go to his first video's description to see them.
Harvest Moon Perfect Game rules wrote:
- 20,000G+ at the end - Enough shipped 200+ of each crop - Get married & have 2 kids - Have 10 Power Berries - 12 Cows and Chickens - Cow at max affection - Have the Clock/Watch - Buy the Bell Tree - Do the Magic Beanstalk Event - Have 999 Affection from each girl - Have 100% Farm Development Rate - Have Happiness at 999 - Get the "Super Farmer" ending - "TRY" to make it as grindless as possible.
In other words, if this gets done, I doubt it'll get published. If it is, it'll be with a quite low entertainment rating. The only people who will enjoy this are Harvest Moon fans (and I'm one of them!). That being said, if anyone wants to start working on this game, I'll watch the WIPs and give feedback, and I'll enjoy every minute of it.

Hello everyone, I did the any% TAS of this game and I ask if I can submit it on this site, I don't feel any entertainment on this one so I ask to you what you think about. If this one can be submitted : Do I try to make the "Marriage%", "All days" or "Best ending" ? This is my any% TAS (2:09.620): Link to video Download bk2 file here : http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/43933494788970103

I guess any% is too trivial for TASVideos. So is 'all days'. (You can start to see why there's no Harvest Moon TAS on the site yet...) Maybe 'best ending' is a good goal?

You aim for "best ending" since "any%" is just a meme similar to something like "die hard%" and would be rejected most likely. It's a thing that you would submit on April Fools. (Which I planned to do this and last year but was too lazy to actually do it) On a related note. A thread for Harvest Moon already exists.

There is no accepted TAS, but I made one several years ago (although for the US version) http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12649 Other than text being faster, is there any other reason to play the Japanese version? I just saw that when talking to the villagers, you go CW while I went CCW. Is that faster, or is it the same? (I made mine in an afternoon, so didn't compared the routes, just assumed it was irrelevant either way)

I don't think there is any other reason to play the japanese version, I just did it for a friend, he is spedrunning this game and this help him so much ! So if this TAS can't be on this site that I can understand, I don't care. All speedrunners of this game use japanese version, it's the only reason I used it. I never played this game so I just learnt the WR to do this TAS and I did a lot of tests but maybe you can improve it by some frames, I don't know. CW = I go to down in first ? CCW = you go to up in first ? If it is, I don't know man I just copied the WR speedrun of this category x), I trust these speedrunners :P (Not very professionalist :/).

I have some addresses,I figured out some rngs and other things on the game so if someone want to do a TAS that can be accepted on the site, I'm his man ! :) I don't think I'll go for the any% because it's only sleep as fast as possible every day so I'm not sure that can be accepted for Vault.... There is a luck manipulation of the weather but it's not very different when you watch it in real time. I think the only category that can be accepted in Vault or Moons would be 100% ("best ending").

Okay, here's some empirical numbers. Your max stamina starts at 100. Each Power Berry adds 10 to your max, but doesn't restore any. You can easily find 3 quickly. Chicken statue at the crossroads, return the first fish of the day, and chop stumps on the mountain. I had forgotten that the two on the farm are found by plowing, not breaking stumps. The address for max stamina is #0008F7, and current stamina is #0008F8 Running some numbers empirically, it looks like even collecting 1 power berry will be enough to avoid seeing the "panting" animation. (Panting triggers at 1/4 stamina, normally. At 100, that's 25 (effectively 24 with tools like the axe which use 2 points. Using the fishing rod appears to take 4.) I can't test it completely because poking the memory values to simulate getting the Power Berries changes the timing of the "brow-wiping" 50% animation, which desyncs the movie. EDIT: Since a Power Berry appears on the mountain on Day 3 from chopping stumps, I think just taking that one is the best option.
