The SRL speedrunning crew has taken to calling it Reverse Shift-line.
It can be done in any room that the screen can scroll in.
It can be used to skip Karasuman, but all other bosses have different loading styles so he's the only boss skippable with it. Might save time in a TAS, since it effectively skips the need to Revenge Tech, and you menu in the fight anyway.
I'm not sure where the 1 HR you'd have there is used, so it might not save time there at all, just an idea.
If it works with a HR, it should work as well with a lvlup, I assumed it works only for death because of the scripting moving you around, in "normal" conditions this should just push you like a few pixels forward not a full room, maybe for karasuman its about the grate?
Maybe lesser demon in Library could work? theres no loading for that boss too (theres no door either tho lol)
Me and arukAdo have experimented with it somewhat, and this is a summary of what we've found so far:
1. it can be done starting in any room with horizontal camera scrolling
2. it sends you the same distance (the length of about one room with no horizontal scrolling), even in longer rooms, so no warping across huge hallways
3. more screen pauses does not have any affect; in fact, the trick fails if you do more than one
4. ending up anywhere near a door causes alucard to go through it automatically, regardless of if this should even be possible

will play around with it more later.
Kainblox, the HR is already used to get the Library Card from the Marble Gallery for Outer Wall skip. There's nothing really big I can think of in the first castle done with reverse shift that could make up for the time lost from not doing that.
Romscout (in cosmo's chat) posted the idea of getting reverse shiftlines whenever you'd level up anyway in the route (during a boss battle for example) and using it to skip a roomlength of walking in the next room.
We only kill Medusa in the current route, who has a separate loading zone for her room (as most bosses do).
Pretty much anywhere else, we already use every level up I can think of for something else already. Getting more levels just to skip parts of rooms like that wouldn't be worth it since the screen pause pretty much eats up any time you would have saved unless you have to wait for some reason, and I can't think of any time where that happens.
I figured the HR was tied up somewhere.
It seems this glitch has no place in an any% TAS, which is kind of sad cause it's very interesting. Maybe someone will do an All Bosses TAS someday and clog the site with more SotN categories?
Atleast Massive Shiftlines/EWGs are no longer a necessary trick for map completion.
The only occurrence where this could save time would be in chapel to avoid using boomerangs/flamberge, its hard to predict if it will save anything tho; like mentioned theres the lvlup itself consuming frames so its always tight.
Edit: Ive tested a bit and skiping gaibon/slogra should be viable, ive managed to do it with lvlup on the bottom skeleton after droping an axe at the top, at this point I dont see what else you could use except for neutron bomb or monster vial, but its working.
@fatalis_ made a drop table/calculator for Symphony of the Night. The most interesting part of it to me is that finally we have proof ring of arcana helps you get drops

I meant to ask this a while ago, but to anyone who cares, what's your opinion on us using a save state to start with muramasa carryover active? This is something that's already been OK'd for use, I'm just wondering what the viewers would think.
For those hungry for more SotN action, Desquall made a semi-optimized TAS of the recently found to be possible 'low% mist' category (beat the game with only one relic, in this case mist. The fastest low% is still wolf but wolf, bat, mist, faerie card (?) and leap stone (??) are all possible)

And here's a bunch of random SotN tech that's been discovered recently:

Proof of concept for low% leap stone. Requires frame perfect menus so isn't very RTA viable unless you hate yourself.

Shaft Skip for PS1 (english) and XBLA - allows pacifist and 0 bosses to skip Shaft as well, so it's now a mandatory skip in those categories.
BTW, if you do this skip in the room where you get holy glasses - on XBLA it hard locks your Xbox 360, on I think PSP it loads the dracula fight but dracula doesn't appear (or something like that)

A new way to do Richter Skip. Basically what makes the Richter fight work properly (and what made the ancient power of wolf Richter Skip) is if the camera is locked, and the camera locking is caused by a specific box surrounding the room, and if you transform on the right frame your hitbox moves position such that on frame X you're before the box and on frame X+1 you're entirely past the box.

Infinite height with faerie card. This is what would make low% faerie card possible:
1) Under unknown circumstances, you can perform save corruption with the faerie card speech, similar to how the sword card save corruption in the 'all relics, best ending' TAS works.
2) This save corruption can give you 1 hp max.
3) Get a toadstool, a duplicator and farm life apples (I forget if duplicator works on them or not) (if not, this is the unfun part).
4) Do this video.

If you like games breaking in your hands and begging for mercy, this is the video for you :)
as of the moment of this typing, not very far probably. we arent really greatly hindered by not having any one of the movement relics or anything, so the time it takes to save the game and reset and load the file back up again is just not worth it. if someone were to find a warp with it or something, shit would really get real
Sockfolder has found a way to use the memory corruption glitch to trick the library card into sending you to the inverted library. (Sorry, I do not have a video.)
