Anyone had an lust for running this game? It would be ideal for a timeattack.. It has many goals to achieve and you can just run straight to the dracula if you want... I might be taking this one after the current CT run.

There was a WIP of a legitimate run for this game. Unfortuantely, it hasn't been worked on for some time, and I've also lost the link to the current progress movie.

Check my post here. The time to beat is under an hour. EDIT: I assume you mean an Alucard timeattak. A Ricther timeattack would of course be faster, but less interesting in my opinion.

Yeah, I was referring to Alucard. A Richter (or possibly Maria) run could be done in about 10 minutes.

And I entirely agree with you.

Yeah and don't they require that you have beaten the game once before? It has to be a alucard run all the way.

A Richter run would be pretty cool and pretty short to boot. He runs and moves a lot faster than Alucard does. I wonder how interesting a Time Attack on this game would be. The more I play it, the easier it gets. Perhaps a Time Attack would have to include a restriction, i.e. no weapon crashes for Ritcher or possibly no spells for Alucard.

this has always been one of my favorite games, i managed to get it in under n hour as well, but id like to see someone elses run to see if i missed anythign. i through togeather a guide a few years ago, here is a link to it: http://www.csis.gvsu.edu/~shaffert/sotn.html its vary brief and somewhat hard to follow. but if anyone knows anythign i can do better or anything i may go back and try to improve my run, this run was done based primarily on my own experimentations of runs, so i could of easily missed something

is there any good way to create a good speedrun with psx. im honestly thinking about trying to make one, but id rather do it on emulation or something as it would look much better and i could do it faster probably. but i havnt ever played around with psx emulation so not sure what is out there for it. if anyone could give me a basic rundown of how to record a good run would be id proly be willing to take the time to make one. the best way i can think atm would be to just hook my psx up to my pc and run it that way, but honestly i dont have the skills to sit down and beat it strait though. i would need to iether edit the video, or find do it via emulation and save state. any help would be appreciated as i know there has to be a good amount of demand for a c:sotn speedrun and maybe if i make one, someone out there will try to outdo me :)

just wondering if anyone knows any good programs for making a speedrun video for a playstation game (castlevania symphony of the night is waht im after). i would prefer to do it with emulation, im currently at work so ill play with whats out there when i get home, but if someone already knows of a good psx emulator with recording capabilities and whatnot that would help me out lots. im guessing there isnt any easy way to do psx as i havnt seen much of any vids out there. otherwise what is the best way to do this without emulation. i could prolybly manage to plug my psx into a pc and record it that way if need be, but if anyone could give me some hints on where to start i would appreciat it

There's a recording plugin for PSEmu pro (and other PSX emulators using the same plugin standard, such as ePSXe) at http://mrdario.tripod.com/index.htm. It supports rerecording, but as it works with data sent to the GPU and not simple keypresses, the files created will be large. If you want to handle the recording on a regular PSX, you'll need some form of TV-input for your computer. If you don't know if you have any TV-in capability, assume you don't have it - 's not common. Once you get the image data to your computer, be it by emulation or actual PSX, you'll need some form of video recording tool. I've seen people recommend Camtasia for most recording needs, but I've never used the proggie myself so I've no idea how it works. Well, hope this helps.

thanks Xerophyte, thats the sort of thing i was lookin for, ill play around with it when i get home from work. if anyone has any experiance with this program or things i should look for a heads up would be nice. and yes i do have access to a computer with rca input, but honestly i want somethign that will be enjoyable to watch, not to show off my skills, so not only would that give poorer quality video to play it on the psx, but you would have to sit through lots of un-nessisary mistakes and whatnot. ill do some testing to see what i can do as far as recording and video editing to a decent format (avi or divx) thanks for the input though :)

There's a plugin for ePSXe that allows movie rerecording, check it out at Zophar's Domain.

Rerecording is simple, but the files are pretty big. That's because you save all the data, not just a sequence of commands like an FMV.

Found this link on Arc's site, figured I'd post it here as we've had a few discussions on PSX time-attacks. Haven't watched it yet (I'm in line) http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/SotN.html

The reason that time is longer than the commonly discussed SotN times is that those times are measured until the final save point and don't count the last boss battle. In case you were wondering why someone with 13:26 Richter was being posted, when Richter times should be a few minutes shorter.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Well, i just watched it, and I have a concern. The game looks too easy. I know it's not that easy to play, but all he does is run/slide around, and Hydro Storm away the three boss battles. That's not very exciting. If I were to attempt a time attack on this game, perhaps I should promise not to use any Item Crashes? They seem overpowered.

Yes, Hydro Storm is VERY overpowered. So overpowered, to do a timeattack without it would be very time consuming.

With glitches/tricks, the record is around 40 minutes with Alucard -- by Morgoth Galaxius. I'm not sure if he taped it or got it online though, I'll talk to him.

I've started some SOTN speed runs and decided to do 3 in 1. 1. Alucard run (no glitches) 2. Alucard 200.6% run (no glitches) 3. Richter run Right now I'm mainly focusing on the 200.6% run since it uses a lot more planning than the other 2. So far on the normal Alucard run I've gotten: Richter defeats Dracula 0:00:38 Meeting with Death 0:01:58 Defeat Slogra & Gaibon 0:03:59 As for the 200.6% run I'm so far at 21.6% in 15m 13s. As for the Richter run, I've done some test runs and got 8:32 at the final save point. Estimation, I think a normal Alucard run can be done under 50 mins, percentage with a full castle under an hour and a Richter run at 7 mins.

Done with the trailer for the run if anyone wants it. You can contact me at ICQ 57363818 or AOL at CuteShinobu. If you can wait then I'll upload it in around a week or two. As for the progress of the actual vid, so far almost done with the first castle (100.3%) in around an hour.
