When watching some of these movies, I've noticed that at times when the playing character can't move onward for whatever reason (moving platform, automatic sequence), the player does this trick where the character moves from left-to-right in place really fast, a move which I've dubbed the "wobble". So, the obvious question is, how are you guys able to do that?

You slow the game way down and push Left and Right really fast. Nothing special to it. It's just something to do to waste time.

Alternate between left and right every frame.

Well, there's 60 frames in a second, and each individual frame can have a speficic keypress associated with it. The movie author may press left one frame, and right the next frame, alternating between the two. Since a single frame goes by so fast, you see the 'wobbling' effect happen.

So when will NesVideo Agent start speed running NES games instead of just the forums?

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25&start=60#5729 Since NesVideo Agent is the secret superhero identity of BisqBot, I guess it's whenever Bisqwit gets bored enough to actually go through with that.

I personally hate the "wobbling". It's distracting and annoying and doesn't add anything to the video. I wish people would stop doing that. If you must wait, then honestly wait. Don't start flickering the sprite for no reason.

i think it removes the "super play" feel, it makes the run much more artificial, it gives the watcher a proof that it is tool-assisted. that is bad, IMO. i did it sometimes on my runs, because there really was nothing else i could do to kill time. just standing still is worse.... on my mickey run i had to wait for the waterfall to fall, so i went back a little to kill a fish. that's an example of better time killer feature than "wobbling".

I got to beat up the innocent townpeople in my Golden Axe run while I was waiting. Always fun. ^_^

I like it a little bit, even more now that we've got a term to describe it!

Sometimes you have to wait or wobble to affect the randomness too. A tenth of a second difference on the game timer can produce entirely new weapons and items in some games.

There we go, the first expresses reason FOR the wobble. All hail the wobble! Those who make the run have full freedom to include any "time-wasters" they feel like doing. All hail freedom!

it looks like this is a hot topic again, just being discussed on the wrong forum (lots vikings submission). i think that as i got used to making movies i like the wobbling a bit more now, but still it shouldnt be repetitive, wobbling should be used as one of the things you can do while waiting. it's ok to wobble once, but it would be boring to wobble all the time, so find all kinds of different things to do while waiting...

I feel a wobble is really good to kill time with. Besides.. It shows somewhat even more patience, since the creators goes through those frames and spend time making something out of it instead of null nothingness. :)

I dislike it because it strains my eyes to the point that I have to look away every time it happens. (I'm sensitive to bright light and that type of flickering, etc.) Andreas
