I've begun work on a TAS for Mario Golf for the GBC, i've got ideas in my head as to how i want to do it but im up for suggestions. Effectively i want it to be done perfectly. The best and fastes score on each hole. However, to me this would be entertaining to watch but i don't know if it would be the same all round....

It would only be entertaining if you could complete the game without the need to putt.

Yeah, i ran the first few holes. I managed to get them in without putting. However, to be completely optimized each would have to be a pin shot (ie. drops perfectly from the sky into the hole) and although i haven't tested enough i don't think the games engine is astute enough to do this on every hole. It is worth investigation though, and to those familiar with the game it would be extremely impressive.

If the course is a par 3, try going for a Hole-In-One. If the course is a par 4, try going for a Eagle. If the course is a par 5, try going for an Albatross. Also, when you level up, it's probably a good idea to put points into Drive, so you can get to the hole quicker. Don't worry about the other stats - you can just reset and retry when it doesn't go the way you want. I like the idea of finishing a hole without needing to putt, too. I wouldn't mind watching a run, personally. Go for it!

Also, i have to find out if windspeed can be subject to luck manipulation. I thought it would have been, however... Usually wind goes up to 9mph, but on the Marion Club course i got eagles on the first two holes (par 4) and on the third (par 3) a shy-guy appeared and the wind shot up to 18mph, which i hadn't seen before. I think wind speed might depend on the quality of the player, which could prove annoying if the player is perfect :p

I think this is actually a good thing. Shooting in high wind will make the game play more impressive.

It would be very impressive, however, at the beggining of the game the players stats are poor and so the shots draw (they move a little to the right) which makes trying to get a hole-in-one on the three pars near impossible (extremely difficult even with slowdown).

Actually, there's one golfer that has a straight when you start - Sherry. Kid has a slight draw, Joe has medicore draw while Azalea has slight fade. Of course, Sherry starts off with the lowest drive at 200 yards. The ideal canadite for this would be Azalea, since she can hit 204 yards and only has a slight fade. Else, use Sherry if you wish to use straight shots.

In my initial attempts at this run i always chose Kid, essentially because it's fastest to select him and so keeping the run completely optimal. I may look back at character selection as what you have suggested is interesting. I think Sherry may be a new option because of her straight, and also drive won't matter considerably because of power shots which should easily cover the marion club before i can upgrade her. I will never lose power shots either because the shots will be perfect each time thanks to slowdown :)

Right, i've TASed the start of the game. You can download the Zip file here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/498eba/ Basically it's the whole start thing and the first four holes of the Marion Club championship. You may notice that the shots will fall from the shy directly into the hole; this is not possible from the distance i am hitting from (the ball jumps back out, or rolls up the flag and back down into the hole wasting time) but it is optimal. I feel that this TAS may be a long haul. Watch this short movie; if it's uninteresting then i won't waste any more time on it, if it's good then i'll be more than happy to continue. Remember that this is the first 18 hole course of five, so tell me if this sort of play and style would be entertaining for that length of time.
