I know this has been discussed before somewhere but no one has given an answer to this. Is there a way to allow more keys to pressed down without having to conform to using a Gamepad? I think at the most three can be pressed down if you press the right combination. Sure, I could rearrange my keyboard keys the only problem is that I'm using a notebook PC, a rather small one so I am limited already to what I can do. Is it the hardware's problem that it can't identify so many keys at once? Anyway, if anyone knows of a keyboard that can identify more than three keys at a time then please let me know, I'd be much more motivated to create movies. I bring this up because I do my movies mostly in frame advance and also I'm discussing this here because it regards to all emulators (not that they are the problem) and most anything else movie-making related. Thanks for any Acknowledgement.

Depends on the keyboard. 3 isn't a hard limit, it varies by which keys. Rebind them and try something else for whatever. I have 3 keys bound to frame-advance, just in case. That sounds vague, but just try things out.

I have had the exact same problem as you, with a notebook/laptop computer. It seems that the built in keyboards they come with usually accept fewer keys than ordinary keyboards, mine could only take 2 keys, or 3 if one of them was shift. There are no direct solutions, but there are work-arounds: 1) Use a gamepad like you said. 2) Use an extra USB keyboard. 3) Use the emulator's hold-button function, if it has one. 4) Get a REAL computer.

It really depends on the make of the keyboard. Most keyboards usually only allow 2-3 keys at the same time. If you're lucky, you can find one that allows 4-5 keys in some cases and 2-4 keys in others.

Maybe a weird shaped keyboard where almost no keys line up with eachother on the board would work but there probably is no such thing. I am thinking of getting an USB keyboard to use the only problem is not knowing which one will be what I want. My biggest problem is the directional buttons (arrow keys) and I have used Auto-hold but I find it too tedious and more work than it has to be but I use it when it is a good time to. Also I do have a real computer it just happens to be in an inconvenient place, since most people want to use it, I am limited on how much I can do on it at a time. Well I guess all I can ask is if anyone knows of a keyboard that fits the criteria of being able to at least process more than one arrow key (up and right work but not up and left at the same time) at a time. That really is all I am looking into.

That's true, from what I've experienced. However, some keys, like ctrl, alt, shift, esc can be pressed in addition to those 3 keys, according to a small discussion we had (involving shoft, cantril, and cops lick).

I guess this is a waste of a topic because now I have set up my buttons differently and no longer even use the arrow keys. Sorry to have wasted your time but if someone wants to put down what keyboard allows more input then go ahead, I'll probably check it out anyway.

If you're lucky, you might be able to hunt down one of those OLD keyboards that allow you to press as many buttons as you want. Don't ask me where, though.

Keyboards are screwey. For some reason, I can hold down S,D,F,J,K,L (yes, 6 keys) at once and they will all be recognised. I can't try holding down S,D,F,H,J,K though. What's more, I can't even hold down Left, Up and Right, or Up, Down and Left, but I can hold down the other two combinations of 3 arrow keys. Meh.

hmm There's a workaroud, iirc, but I don't know how they do that... have you ever played mugen? it supports a lot of keypresses at the same time

A lot of keyboards have different 'sections' for which the buffer is allocated. I have the same arrows problem as bobxp. Try holding down a couple of meta-keys, three from the left side, three from the right size, a couple of arrows and something from the num key pad. They should all register :)
Voted NO for NO reason
