Super Mario Allstars Lost Levels

Emulator used: snes9x improvement9
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Uses no warps
  • Takes damage to save time
This is my second fully completed run and its 964 frames faster than previous one, mostly because backward jumping and few new wall ceilings

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. :) I was just about to ask... I really enjoyed the movie, too, but I wish it would've been played on the FDS version instead. Sure, the graphics, music, sound effects etc. are improved here, but... it's just not the same. Ah well. Still a great movie. :)

Voting "Yes" I really enjoyed the run and it's about time it was made :) I love this version and to see it beaten all the way through in an entertaining fashion was a treat! One thing though, I dunno about 8-3 (at the end, waiting for that platform to move up seemed unnecessary) and 8-4 there were some odd things going on in those worlds that didn't seem optimized. I know the author tried to address some of them earlier but there are still things I'm not convinced on. Especially water worlds in general, what's with the changes in horizontal speed? Sometimes you seemed much faster than others.

Holes in the water levels, you move slower because the holes suck you in. 8-3 the waiting was necessary. 8-4 could have probably been handled better. So could various parts. But all in all, very nice.

I have two copies of this rom and neither of them are the right checksum. Annoying. :( Edit: Okay, it's the [U] [!].smc and I just didn't have it. Watching. Edit2: That was great, even though the game is kind of tedious and unimaginative ;) They kind of exhausted all of the best possibilities the first time around, so this one goes for overkill. Still, a good watch and a good run.

Like Bisqwit said, it's imperfect. I told the author some suggestions like trying to improve 1-1 to end at 349 instead of 348 and 1-2 is not done professionally. I don't see those changes in the final movie. Though he tooks the fireflower at 1-3 like suggested which did improved 1-4 by a little. Even if the movie has been published, I am voting no.

I thought the movie was entertaining, but I'd like to see it optimized better. I'm thinking 5-10 seconds can be saved.

I'm having a codec problem on the AVI. I have the same problem with the Mario 64 WIP, but I never brought it up because I assumed DeHacked just used some experimental encoding settings. I'm using OpenBSD, mplayer installed from packages. When playing this file, no video output is displayed, instead the console has endless lines of
[h264 @ 0x3c14d8f8]picture size invalid (4294966864x1664) 0.7% 0 0
Error while decoding frame!
I already read the FAQ, and it said that I probably have an old version of mplayer, however I have the same version of mplayer as recommended:
$ mplayer -version
MPlayer 1.0pre7-3.3.5 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team

How about using MPlayer 1.0pre8 release!!? Also, how about trying to update mplayer frequently so you won't have any problems!!? I don't understand people having problems. STAY UP-TO-DATE GUYS.

Eh maybe, but the files here are the only ones i have trouble with, so I never thought about it. I'll be back after about the hour it'll take to compile MPlayer. edit: yay, it worked

It's mainly because we use up-to-date x264 encoder with new features added which old mplayer version can't handle. My recommendation is that you update mplayer(via CVS) at least once per month. But now, keep the new prerelease version since it's only 2 days old. :)

Also, as I've experienced on the ZSNES board, FreeBSD mplayer's package is edited some what and they broke quite a few things. I'm not sure what the deal with OpenBSD is, but if you're having issues, you may want to compile yourself if you didn't already.

Japanese version(スーパーマリオコレクション Super Mario Collection) did not contain "Super Mario World" This movie is very fastest.
