Ice cold (we use my trash can + ice to cool them), fresh (delivered and opened in the same day), and thick (US standard, though). So yeah, it beats teh crap out of Bud from the fridge :/ I'll reiterate, though, that liquor is my life blood. Just as Omni said, following a recipe is trash: pour out how much vodka/kahlua/schnapps/whiskey/rum/tequila that you plan to imbibe, and then slowly toss in random crap until it tastes good. If you're not drinking something with alcohol in it, just toss crap in until it isn't bad anymore. Crown Royal + Code Red = a quick way to mask a lot of alcohol.

Word. Although dark rum is something I don't like, Bacardi superior is my choice. I can't stand the taste of beer and I'm certain I'll never drink it again.

It's probably a little naive and irrationally bigoted to say US beer is terrible. I can buy over 100 different American brands without traveling more than 2 miles from my apartment. Some are good, some are bad, and most are fairly different from one another. There's lots of middle ground between Steel Reserve and Chimay ... maybe you should try more than just Coors/Bud/Michelob before passing judgment.

I have wondered the same thing. In the conclusion, I think it's not anything in the taste of beer, but the drunk experience you get for relatively affordable price. Which attaches you to it and eventually you stick to it for mere reasons of familiarity/memories alone. Such things have an often underestimated, great power over our perceptions.

I hate beer, I don't understand the preoccupation with it. Whenever I drink, it's always vodka, neat.

Bah, I vomited the first time I drank beer, not from the alcohol mind you. It's foul tasting o.0

Got any recipes? Besides the "pour vodka into glass, drink" variety?
Hmmm, anyone heard of Red Bull before? Not sure if you can find it outside South East Asia, but it makes hell of a good drink when mixed in equal proportions with Vodka. YARRR

They sell that in Britain, but mixing it with Vodka is a very dangerous thing to do (ie. Deprassant & stimulant mixed). I took me years to aquire a taste for beer and a i threw it all away in one night of Heineken induced illness. If you ever want to aquire a taste for beer drink a few shots of vodka, whiskey and maybe throw an absinth on top of all that (choice of colour is all yours). However, i'd love to have a taste for beer, it's just so much cheaper.

Hmmm. I don't drink. It almost sounds like I'm the only one here like that. Not that that's a problem, hehehe.

I don't either. I'd rather the stupid stuff I do be my own fault.

I'm a mixed-drinker myself, preferring whatever goes with the mood/food. As for "starter" beers, Tuborg is ok. As a rule of thumb, don't go with something really fancy, but rather regulars. I love beer, and I still find Chimay and the like too yeasty for my liking. As for other wares, they should all be had straight. Schnaps, Bailey's, the lot. Also much less of a hassle than mixing when both your eyes are trying to explore opposite ends of the room.

I don't like the taste of beer, either, though I can enjoy it if I mix the good emotions in. That said, I only occasionally drink if I go somewhere with my friends or if I want to make some experiments on my organism (e.g. "how much alcohol can I drink until I throw up" or "what happens if I drink prior to smoking Salvia divinorum", or something like that). I generally prefer light beer, and as cold as possible. I also hate vodka. My "favourite" drinks are cream liquor, preferrably Carolans (taste-wise), and absinthe (effect-wise). Also, as a matter of fact, I'm one of those people who don't get drunk no matter how much they drink, regarding the consciousness state — at most, I just get intoxicated, throw up and feel myself better immediately after that (that is, the alcohol almost exclusively affects my physic state, and all the psychic effects are derived directly from it).

I am very surprised (and pleased) by the amount of people who dislike beer here. Usually I consider my dislike of beer my biggest handicap when going out. Everyone expects you to drink it, on some student festivities it's all they serve. I rarely (if ever) meet a male who can't stand the taste and go for cider/cocktails/wine instead. Perhaps it's part of the nerd gene? ---- While we're at the topic, I feel a need to you about a colleague's female friend, who started talking to a random boy in a bar with the line "What? Are you drinking CIDER, you nerd?!" ... which eventually translated into a several year long relationship.

I would concur with the "nerd gene" theory... mainly on the basis that I myself am a teetotaler.

Myself I can't say whether I like beer or not because I swore off alcohol before I ever had any (alcohol). Root Beer is good stuff though. Mmm.

I don't care for beer either, but I can tolerate it. I don't drink regularly; it's mostly just when I'm in social gatherings. I've only gotten drunk once, and the end result... wasn't too pleasant. After that, I've watched myself so that I don't end up getting sloshed and possibly spewing chunks everywhere. I don't really act stupid when I'm a drunkard anyway; just slightly more social. Amusement.
