What is it about beer that everyone seems to like? I'm trying to drink this stuff, but I can't enjoy it. I have tried various different kinds of beer, but they all have the same basically foul taste. Supposedly, it is an aquired taste, but I've drunk lots of this stuff on many occasions but I never seem to start liking it any more. At least olives (another aquired taste) have an intriquing taste and don't cause you to almost vomit. Yuck. The ONLY positive thing about beer is the alcohol, which I can get from drinks that actually taste good. So I guess this topic is about beer. Post your beer experiences and stuff. (edit: or anything alcohol-related, for that matter)

I think beer tastes like crap until you're too buzzed to notice anymore. Everyone around me loves beer, so when we play drinking games, I lose, even if I win. Then again, I drink hard liquor as if it were water, so maybe I'm backwards.

Completely agree. Beer tastes like fermented horse urine (and I would know). My fav kind of alcohol is schnapps (99 bananas, the peach variety). I also like flavored vodka and once in a while some Yukon Jack. Coconut rum is pretty good, too.

Beer? No thanks. Mixed drinks? Yes please! I'd rather drink straight liquor than beer, honestly. At least you wouldn't have to taste it as much :D

I tried beer once, and hated the taste. That kept me from drinking until now, which I consider good. I tried some hard stuff as well, some of it tastes a lot better. But as I'm not used to alcohol I'm careful with that stuff and stick to cola. Got me quite a reputation on any party. And gives me a chance to filter out idiots ("come on, why don't you drink alcohol?" - "ahh, an idiot. thanks for playing.") oh well.. seems like I'm below my quota http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_consumption_by_country

You probably don't like the taste of hops, since it's quite bitter. If you want to acquire a taste for beer, you should cut your chops on something that doesn't taste strongly of hops, like Doq Equis Amber.

If it's available in my country, I'll try it and post on this thread how it goes. It'll probably be at least a month before that happens, though. :P I'm just giving up with beer. Aside from that ONE suggestion by Xebra. If I don't like that, I'm never buying another beer again. Ever. I'm drinking this strange concoction called "Tinto Verano" and it's pretty decent, I think. Even though it was pretty much the cheapest thing in the liquor store besides beer, it is still 10000% better than beer. Fuck beer. I'm giving up with it. What a stupid drink. :P Bleeech.

I love my beer dark and bitter. Yarrrrr I used to drink vodka and other hard liquor as a teen, but nowadays I can hardly drink the hard stuff. Every now and then I can put away a shot or two of some whiskey, but only after a few beers. I also love margaritas.

To be fair, beer at German fests tastes pretty good, especially when people buy it for you! @Tub: Maybe I'm backwards about more than just my drinks. ;)

Indeed, free beer is by far the best tasting.

I'll just sit over here with my girly tasting drinks with unimaginable levels of alcohol. By myself.

Got any recipes? Besides the "pour vodka into glass, drink" variety?

I'm German, I love beer. Now I'm in the US, the beer sucks. I buy imported German beer, it's expensive, but I love it.

Take any girly drink and add vodka. I like making 50 or so proof mudslides in particular. At that point it's mostly Baley's and Vodka though. Also good is grab some OJ, ice, Baley's, and Rum. Mix to taste. Actually anything with fruit and Rum is good. Substitute OJ with Bananas and add some vodka. I don't really follow recipes. I just throw stuff into a blender and adjust until it tastes right or I'm too drunk to care.

I don't know how it's done in other countries, but here the beer must be as icy as possible, otherwise nobody likes it. I don't understand this, because if it's too cold, it feels like you're drinking any other soft drink (the bitterness disappears). Also, 90% water? Pretty lame...

Warm beer is terrible. Watered down beer is terrible. In the US, kegs are the weapon of choice, but rarely anyone outside of college buys them.
