I see. Didn't consider the difficulty to even get that starting position at first.

I see a lot of cool things in this thread, but is anyone here actually working on a TAS? Cpadolf already told me that he was not. EDIT: It looks like hero is. What's his progress?

14% SpeedBooster TAS - Ingame oriented, fully optimal to known standards. (With newer ones still being generated) Progress - I'd say right around 45%, considering I've got 1 last geemer to manipulate and practically all the most delicate and hard manipulation is done. About to enter the Lower Norfair elevator, where I've already got a playthrough and all my room strats done and optimal, including the daunting new Pillar Room strat developed by Hero. After Ridley, (He's basically the last of the hardcore manipulation) I'll fly through Kraid and Draygon, then the Metroids will be the last of my manipulation problems. It's not even about optimizing anymore. The hardest part of TASing this game is getting things you need to drop. :S

Unless he asks somebody to develop a lua script to help the purpose.

Just preparing you for the PAIN. I've done it twice and though about giving up both times. You aim for ingame time though, which should definitely ease things up a bit.

Hero's not working on any run iirc, but me and Taco are. We're at Ridley atm.

What's a "14% speedbooster TAS"? Is it a new category?

A 14% run is a low% run, 14 being the lowest percentage you can complete the game with without using the out of bounds glitching seen in the glitched any% run. And there are two variations that can be made to this run, either you collect speedbooster, or icebeam (the rest of the items is morphball, 2 missiles, 2 super missiles, 3 energy tanks, bombs, power bombs, varia suit, gravity suit and chargebeam (you can also collect just one missile pack and three packs of super missiles instead)). It's a run category that has existed for a long time, but due to difficulties has never been completed legitimately on console, and only once on emulator with the use of savestates but no slowdowns, and it has never been TASed. It won't become a new category here on the site though, as the whole 14% category has been obsoleted.

Ahh, so this probably won't get published. Still looking forward to it though. What are the 20 missiles and 3 tanks needed for?

You mean it *may* or may not become categorized again.. If not, I'll send you to assassinate those who are responsible with your x-ray scope of doom. :( Anyways, more detail for the 14%: Obviously collects 14% in items, which can be varied. Defeats all 4 main bosses. The 2 different types, as Cp stated, are wether you choose to obtain the Ice Beam or the SpeedBooster as your 14th item. Saturn has recently released a 14% Ice Beam route TAS. It is un-optimized to today's standards, but still had some of the most insane tricks performed with a very optimal route. My route will be different considering I am obtaining the SpeedBooster, also much more optimized with all known implemented tricks/techs + my own 2c.

Something like that. If you want to beat the game picking the less amount of itens possible without using major glitches, you have to choose between the Ice Beam and the Speedbooster. That's because you need at least one of them to pass through Maridia and Torian. Saturn already made a "14% Ice Beam TAS" and NameSpoofer is working in a "14% speedbooster TAS". Re: forget.

Might get published.. >.> 3 E-tanks are to survive MotherBrain's Rainbow beam. The 5 missles and 15 supers (4% for those) are to break MotherBrain's glass shell/first form.

Don't worry, I'm watching it regardless of whether it's published or not :P

Bisqwit's verdict on Saturn's 14% run was basically "The site isn't currently designed to reasonably allow for this run to be published, but it might be published in the future after a site redesign." Presumably the same would apply at that time to other 14% runs.

Is the Ice Beam 14% route faster or slower than the speed booster 14% route?

It's assumed faster, but I will probably beat Saturn's run due to major lack of optimization. Who knows, maybe the SB will be faster regardless.

Officially it is not known, because a full speed booster run has not been made yet. Saturn has stated that the ice beam route is faster, based on his own observations. I tend to believe Saturn is correct, but would not be surprised if spoofer owns us all :P As for me, I am not actively working on any runs. I am looking forward to seeing what the other talented TASers on this forum can produce though. Maybe one day I will start up a new TAS, but for now I am just looking for new techs and optimizations. Kriole, Have you guys decided to go with the new route that I posted, the one which skips the spazer beam? If you don't mind telling, how many seconds would you estimate that you are ahead of my run? Might be hard to tell due to the route changes though :/

<Kejardon> I'm confident power suit alone would be usable to make Zebes explode If I don't own MacGuyver's job in the next 24 hours there is no justice in the world.

...you've found some way to corrupt memory without any powerups? My word. Or maybe you're going to use the demo mode somehow? I don't think I've ever seen it desync, though. Granted I haven't watched it in ages.

We actually mentioned long ago, when the final gains were determined, that we would use the new route. And so we did. I'm not sure if I should post the gains, especially since we haven't finished Ridley yet. And when Ridley is finished, the rest of the run will be done in less than 1-2 weeks, considering the fact that the rest of the game is a cakewalk (and everything is already played and planned ;]).

Don't get your hopes up for that. Even if it does beat Saturn's run (which according to his estimations of the speed v ice route, it won't, you never know though), the 14% category has been obsoleted. And his run has been up on the table twice without getting published, and that doesn't really have anything to do with it not being optimal. EDIT: Also, kejardon, wat?

Note that Saturn's run has been postponed and not rejected as of this time period. Doesn't matter, just because a run won't get published doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, so no, I really don't care much, still going to submit it anyways since its a super-run.
