Fan vad nice ;) Damn that's cool. Since I'm new to this recording thing, I'm wondering how I start recording again from where I took a break? Do I just load the save and choose record movie..hmm, no... it'll overwrite then right? :S Btw, you watched smokey's 36 or 38 before doing your own speedrun right? Anyway, keep it up!

Aah.. jupp When you are watching your movie. just hit Save(SHIFT+F1,F2,F3,F4) and then reload(F1, F2, F3) it.. and you should be back at record again. :)

I'm that kinda confused me ^^; What I did recently was that I quit super metroid in the beginning near the end of Metroid 1, the last save is in slot 2. How can I continue recording? Because if I choose "Movie Record" "Record Now" then it'll continue from my save and the rest of the earlier movie will be gone, right?

While watching the movie you have recorded, loading a state will resume recording from that state... If you don't have a good save state, then you can make one while it's recording and then load it, and it'll resume from there.

im still in the process of watching your run frenom and as usual, damn fine work. i'm only up to the bomb boss (fairly eairly into the run) and so far i'm amazed already. your climbing of the huge shaft (oh grow up lol) was without a doubt the best i've ever seen. looking foward to the rest of you run. 1 question, is this a 100% run? as 50+mins does seem a little long for a non 100% run

oh thanx. :) this run is a 24% item collect and I am only picking necessary items I need. Which was 5 missiles to much. _0. anyway.. the gameclock stops at 34mins and it stops everytime I pick an item, history.. and so on :) It took some rerecords to climb the wall up to Wrecked ship without the ice. but stubborn as I am I tried and tried and... hey.. I came up :D hehe..

ok so in gametime it is a 34 min run? ok as TDA has super metroid in 32 or so mins listed. i'm up to where you just defeated ridley and again fine fine work. it was always the hardest boss for me to kill when playing and you made it seem so effortless. nice work. deffiantly converting this run into an .avi file when i'm done watching it.

TDA? Dont you mean SDA? :) Smokey has a run there at 36 mins. http://planetquake.com/sda/other/supermetroid.html If there is one boss that I really hate in this game, It would be Draygon. Oh I hate this guy :)

ah yes my mistake. SDA. i had'nt opened the page in a very long time (good month) and only remembered that the shortest run was 30 something mins long. anyways, i finished watching it and was well worth an hour of my time :) hope to see more of your damn fine work. honestly i cant think of any 1 area or position that i could offer any tips or advice on. its all done so well. only part that had me confused for a sec was when you opened a door in norfair, went in and then went back out again and went through the door across the hall. i thought you had made a mistake but then when i saw you do a super jump it clicked heh. again fine work there.

Dark Mana: You do know that other people invented most of the tricks and strategies shown in the movie right? (without save states even ;)) Anyway, really cool stuff here :D What surprised me was that you took so long to lower your health on Ripley in the beginning lol! Kneel down near his tail and keep getting hit by it, and it'll decrease much faster. Some stuff that I thought about while watching it (no offense in this ^_^) Botwoon (maridia mini boss): Could be faster, watch Red Scarlet's 100% run. I think it's possible to do her strat for this boss on a 34min speedrun. Draygon: Yes, this was painfully slow :P I'm not sure if it's possible to kill him any faster on a speedrun, I think I'm going to watch how long it takes Smokey on his 36 or 38min run. Ridley: Once again, Red Scarlet uses a neat trick with the murder beam on him, check it out. IMO, I think a 32min run should be possible but I can't take on that challenge since I need a controller for my pc to perform some of the walljumping n stuff.

yes i do know that the tricks shown were not thought of by frenom. but that still does'nt take away from the fact that it was a good run.

Hehe, I've been thinking about Super Metroid lots lately, and all the challenges and glitches in the game. I've never tried a speed run or a 100% run in the game, but I have had lots of fun seeing how much of the game I can skip. I truly love bomb jumping in the game, hehe. Anyways, the point is, I'm wondering if anyone else here has ever tried killing Ridley 2nd out of the bosses. I killed the ghost ship boss, and then Ridley, and of course that means skipping the Varia Suit and Space Jump. It was loads of fun doing it for me, and I was surprised when I read this forum and didn't see anyone else trying what I did. One of the hardest things for me was getting the Grappling Beam without space jumping, because wall jumping just doesn't work so good when there's spikes in the walls :) and of course spikes coating the floor, and crazy flying creatures that just don't like Samus bomb jumping...

Killing the phantom with only Samus original Charged beam, good or bad idea? ;) hehe.. Killing Ridley as a 2nd boss can be a lots of fun, but a great timeloss. :) Im trying to improve my last run and this time im trying an another route. The items in the right oder. Brinstar: Morph Missile Crateria: Bomb Energy tank Brinstar: Powermissile Missile Charge Powerbomb. Crateria: on my way to ghostship Missile Ghostship: Phantom... and here I am right now.. After that: Powermissile Gravity Suit Blah blah .. the rest is comming later ;)

This time remember to collect enough energy and missiles from enemies so that you can kill bosses more easily and your shinesparks won't stop abruptly :)

Gooooodmorning Zebes :) I really dont know if it is faster to take the Phantom as a first boss. I compared with my other run. In my currently run I was skiping Spazer, wave and heading right to the Ghostship, fighting the Phantom with only Samus charged beam and supermissiles. With Charged Beams he wont close his eye and with a Missile/Powermissle he will close it and when it will take a while until he show up and opens it again. With the weapons(Spazer and wave. With Ice he will close it) I killed him 1min23seconds faster. But that also means that ill have to take an another route. But I do this one and see if I accually save time to take him first. Back to game.

hmm.. I did a map with an tiny little line to follow that indicats my route(where I am right now), it shows how I am thinking. http://frenom.areta.org/route.jpg Yes I had fun making it ;) copy, paste, make it fit. Or the smv http://frenom.areta.org/fmv/supermetroid-frenom-ju.zip It ends right after I entering Norfair. Could it be faster?

ok you did something in your run that i never asked about. how the hell did you equip spazar AND phazar (is that the correct name for it?) at the same time? i've never read a glitch about this at all and it kept me wondering what the hell you did exactly. and why does it just stay there for?

Lazy or ignorant? :P Http://www.Gamefaqs.com Murder Beam By equiping all five beams at the game time you can kill Motherbrain pretty easily. To equip all five beams at the same time go into the equipment screen in the Sub-Menu. You will notice that the Spazar Beam in unequiped because the Plazma Beam cancels out the Spazar. Equip the Spazar Beam (thus unequiping the Plazma Beam) then move the curser over to one of the Boot Upgrades. Hit Left and the A Button at the same time to equip the Plazma Beam. If you did it right then the letters Var should appear next to the Plazma Beam. To complete the glitch you must first charge your beam before equiping all five beams. After your beam is charged all the way , equip all five beam the way I decirbed above the fire it at say Motherbrains head (when it's laying on the ground). If you did it right then an orange orb should stay behind and contanly hit Motherbrain. Equip your beams reqularly. NOTE: This beam can crash your game if not done correctly. Contributed By: Magic Mario Edit: I'm going to check out the smv now

Can the "murder beam" be used outside of the Mother Brain's chamber?

Sure it can.. but only one time in the same room.. if you press the button again with all the weapons equiped the game will hang ;).. Im going to test it on Ridley in the next run to see if it is really faster then killing him normaly. I doubt.

Just watched it and it was certainly very refreshing to see a new route. While it's not a new find or anything, I've personally never seen it like this or done it before so that was nice :) I was also thinking that maybe Phantoom can be killed faster by manipulating your luck so that you'll get Super Missiles from every blue fire you "kill"? And is the Varia Suit needed when you already got Gravity? Otherwise it's pretty much as fast as possible, but will it be faster than the "normal" route in the end? Hm, I don't know.
