OK. I finally decided to delay working on the hack until next year as I got more interest for TAS'ing again. I picked up the Metroid run and finished Ceres-Station. Once again I managed to improve Michaels run by some frames. As mentioned a while ago I saved 6 frames before Ridley and during the escape even 23! more Frames because of a better route and by optimizing the moves even more to make a total of 29 frames now. The in-game time counter shows 00'48"97 left after I reached the elevator (for comparing Michaels time: 00'48"67 - 0,30 sec slower). Now I will definitely record this run further in the next days as I finally finished my exams!

Although I mentioned this before, any improvements on MF's run are impressive to me. Although after a little bit through the run, it won't be comparable, since his is getting 100% items and I don't think yours is. Also excited to hear you are back at it! *encouragement*

JXQ: Right, I don't make 100% and our paths will split at the room where I get the first Super Missiles in Brinstar. Until this part I will see how much I can improve which is a good thing. Highness: Sure! I would say at least 1 or 2 WIPS will be done until Christmas (1st WIP will be after the Torizo fight where I get the bombs). Thank you guys!

I'm glad you decided to start up on it. It's been so long overdue for an update that if it went on longer it might have forced me to attempt making a very poor excuse for a tas, which probably wouldn't end up getting finished, knowing me. I'd be surprised if it even got truly started. Anyway, it's in good hands now. =)

Thx Highness, I will do my best! Haven't much time today, but I optimized the Ceres-station escape by one more frame (reached elevator at 00'48"99) and think its the absolute limit now). Tomorrow I will record the first rooms on Planet Zebes!

Sounds bloody serious there Saturn! One frame! :D I like it when people tends to fix every little piece super-optimized. :D

Yeah, maybe this effort was not worth for one little frame, but this is my personality. As long as I have doubts that it could be done faster I try everything to be 100% sure. But in this case I had another motivation because of the in-game counter that shows every frame you will save in the final time of your escape.

True. But I mean.. You won't feel the diffrence from crunching 1 frame. Sure.. This perticular frame you can actually see the diffrence since there is an in game counter. But otherwise I think you should not be so super-picky about it. Maby in a version after this if you decide to optimize it that badly. Maby it would add upp some frames in the end. But right now I think it's better to just make a regular faster version without being that picky about it really. :) I mean.. How much faster are you from MF's last WIP? Perhaps noticably, I don't know. Just don't overdo it yet. Rather make two version to really see the diffrences that you can make. For instance.. When I made my first version of Mystic defender I thought that it was GREAT! It was superfast. But the more I watched it, the more I saw places for improvement. Hence I made a new version and submitted that one. Anyways.. It's your call to make. But I think I'm not the only one that wants to see a new version already! :D If possible before new year. :)

I'm excited to see the movie too, but personally I admire very much Saturn's dedication at this point. Plus, Super Metroid already has a run that is quite optimized (minus the wiggle-arm and a few other tricks). Alas it is Saturn's call. I await the first WIP :)

Yeah. I know about that saying. But in many cases there are better to make more than one version, as more improvements are likley to be found. :)

Don't worry, you will definitely see at least one WIP in this year because now there aren't many possibilities left to optimize. I honestly don't like to redo a TAS for a game I did before because it would be boring and I would call that a time-waste. Why should I make sub-optimized moves and redo the complete run later when I know that I can make them frame-perfect in the first run by just taking a little effort for it? The Ceres station optimizing was also to learn new move-techniques early for every needed situation so that I can use them in the further recording. Now I know them pretty well so the progress will be faster now. I would say the first WIP will be done in about 2 weeks maybe even faster.

Are you writing in essay on sayings or something right now supermegavkoy? Saturn.. Will you concider making a 100% TAS after this one? Perhaps you will be exhausted after this one. But I was just saying since it's discussed in the general thread right now. :) JQX might start one, and I was thinking in the lines that maby you two could make something together perhaps? If JQX wants to use your Ceres station sequence for example. Just juggling thoughts here. :)

I don't plan to do a 100% run so far, but if JXQ wants to start it I would be ready to help also with my ceres station sequence. For a 100% run it will be very important to calculate the best possible route first before recording it and I haven't done any planings on this mode though. Maybe Red Scarlets route is worth a check or better to try contact Michael somewhere and ask for advice as he surely planed out his route before.

Nah, I have too much to do, the teachers hates me and I have to work twice as hard as the other pupils, even though I am twice as good, to get my grades. The swedish school system is screwed up. Super Metroid is one of the best games ever and I am really looking forward to see this TAS by Saturn, but I would rather see that JQX made a Super Mario Kart-TAS than a 100% Super Metroid-TAS due to the lack of SMK-TASs. There is an old swedish saying: Bra sås reder sig själv.

I'd still like to attempt a 100%, but I'm going to try Sonic 1 first. I think a game with a more complicated physics engine will help me handle Super Metroid better - all I've had to do is make Mario fly so far :-P And thanks for the Ceres Station offer, but what I'll probably end up doing when the time comes is watch yours a bunch, but then do it myself to try and match (perhaps even beat) that time. I learn games the best this way. I downloaded Red Scarlet's 100% run, I plan on watching that soon. Just cuz I'm TASing Sonic doesn't mean I can't start route planning here! Oh and guys, my name ends with Q. :)
