I'd so love to see the route JXQ's gonna use, I might ask him to share it, since I've done my own route, but it still has a couple of flaws, and maybe his will help me fix it. ;P If he doesn't do it, I might as well.

Well I am bringing the following things with me out of town, since I'm not going to have a computer with me: 1) Super Nintendo 2) Super Metroid I will see what I can come up with route-wise. I'll definitely be sharing my ideas, because I know I'll need some help with optimizing macro and micro all over this game. I'll be back the 24th, so I'll let you know what I've got then! Edit: I just packed my Super Nintendo into my suitcase and I feel like the coolest person on the planet. End statement.

Since you are doing a reverse boss order suitless run, how do you plan on getting to Ridley? Is there a way to get through that "U" like section at the entrance to lower Norfair? I tried to get through without the gravity suit and I couldn't do it. If you've already answered this in a previous post I apologize but I don't have time right now to look through the past pages.

You can do a couple of sexy wall jumps to get up there.

Yes, you just have to walljump your way up in this room. Although the Lava slows you down you can still perform a pretty high walljump of it. However in water (like in Maridia) the walljumps won't work like that which will make this part pretty slow and difficult to pass.

I'm about to leave Norfair on the way to get my first Power Bombs in Red Brinstar. I have to test if its worth to take the Ice Beam before or get it later when I return there on the way to Lower Norfair. In the last variation I save some time by not have to fill up my energy for this part but therefor it requires a bit longer route. I also get a additional Missile Pack which could be usefull in extreme situations later. Lets see what the test-results will tell me.

Here is what I have accomplished! My route (subject to massive revision) When I actually go to start this project, I'll probably make a seperate topic (or continue MF's 100% topic). But I am enjoying working out this route currently, and any pointers or suggestions are welcome. The main question I have now (taken from that page): Michael Flatley did not get the Ice Beam. I have no idea what he was planning to do. Is there another way to get the Spring Ball without the Grappling Hook or Ice Beam? Or is it possible to play through Deep Norfair without the Space Jump and saving Maridia for last? (The rest of the route would need revision if this option ended up being taken)

Hail Mighty Galvatron ops I mean Mighty JXQ! Even though you are in "pre-stage" and currently planning the route, its the initiative/move/act call it whatever you want that I have waited so long to hear :) Merry Christmas

If I'm not too lazy I'll share my route with you JXQ (I'll have to write a whole lot, since it's very different from yours), there are still a couple of things I need fix first, or if we could look into that together, you might get a couple of ideas. I actually thought I'd start practicing this game, since I thought I might wanna do a demo of it later, but it didn't go too well, but for fun purposes I'll share it with you. :) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/547/ I havn't compared it to any other video, but I'd guess it's totally crap. :) You might have to take another look into the icebeam/spring ball concern before you decide when to pick the ice beam up. I might look into that as well, we'll see. Also, I was browsing around the Metroid2002 forums for ideas, and came across a video of someone shooting a charged plasma shot at Draygon and then started to rapidly switch X-ray on and off, Draygon died in one shot, did the X-ray scope have anything to do with this, and if so, will it work on Ridley?

Good to have you back JXQ, the forums are empty without you :) Even though Super Metroid, along with Super Mario World, was what got me interested in TASing to begin with, I unfortunately don't know a single thing about this game. But good luck, It'll be great to see what you can do!

I'm actually beginning to believe that Ridley before Draygon should be tested, if there's a way of getting to the Golden Torizo's boss room without space jump. I just realized that your route is about the same as the one Smokey uses in his :56, except for when you're entering the gauntlet, which he does in the end, like Red Scarlet.

I didn't really get this part, I know it's not directed to me, it's more like I wanna know just because I don't understand. :) Förklaring!

Nobody has taken any kind of initiative to even discuss the route for a 100% run ever since (we are talking about many months here) Michael had to more or less abandon his run, and thats why I be like: "Hail JXQ".

Graveworm: Ridley before Draygon is very close. It saves a bit of time getting the ice beam later (unless a new way is found to get the Spring Ball (which I doubt, it was crazy to get a second way (third set of parenthesis))), but there are a few rooms in Deep Norfair that will suffer from the lack of Space Jump - the big filling lava room comes to mind. Hmm...and also the Plasma Beam. Don't you need the Plasma beam to defeat the Gold Torizo(?) (the bird statue before getting screw attack) in a sane amount of time? If that makes a large difference then this may not need testing after all. Also, I don't know too many names of specific areas of the game (Gauntlet) or enemy names (worm boss, statue boss, etc) so I tend to make up my own. So, if anyone doesn't know what my goofy names are, or has a better name, please let me know, as it will probably make communication about the route easier. If you do get a chance to type up your route, that would be cool. Chances are that neither of us have the optimal path for every part, rather a combination of our (and others') ideas. Fabian, this too was a major player in my interest in TASing. That probably explains why we worked well together on SDW! This and Sonic 1 were what I came to the forums for as a lurker. Angerfist, thanks! I seem to select games that no one in their right mind would do otherwise :)

The worm boss in maridia is called the Dragon Worm, I've got alot of experience with Super Metroid, not using frame advance though, as you can see in my not so sexy movie. :P Of course I have time to scribble up that so called route of mine, it's more of a mental blocking. I'd very much like to have a little chat with Michael Flatley about the spring ball, since I do have a small idea which might be worth testing whether it allows me to get it without either grapple beam nor ice. The gauntlet is the part where you wrote it would go much faster with the screw attack in your route planning. The biggest flaw in my route is that you have to get the charge beam on the first (second) visit in Brinstar. Maybe you're right about the Golden Torizo, but since I have no idea of any damage numbers some people seem to have, I'm not gonna take care of that myself. Well, I've got nothing more to write right now, and I doubt there's anything in this post worth to reply to. :)

>I have no idea of any damage numbers some people seem to have Terimakasih has them: http://terimaland.com/cnq/html_metroid3/ It's all in Japanese though... 1st link is weapon damages, second is boss stats, third is demos. I can throw together a quick translation if you need it. You would think that one of the 200 Metroid guides on GameFAQs would have it. Haven't seen it there, perhaps it's buried deep within one of the walktroughs.

I found this, as Truncated guessed, buried in one of the FAQs.
FAQ wrote:
Boss battle: Golden Torizo Hit points: 13500 Charged Plasma/Ice/Wave: 900 Super missiles: 600 Missiles: None
If the plasma beam isn't an option, it doesn't help that the boss will catch some of the super missles. Since at least 23 must contact him to win, and he will probably catch at least every third one (I haven't tested how many can be shot while one is caught and thrown back), that bumps the number up to around 35, and the maximum obtained at that point if Maridia is delayed is only 30. Plus, unless there is a good way to get these back quickly, it will slow down the Ridley battle. It's seeming doubtful to me at this point but fighting the Gold Torizo without Plasma needs to be tested, so I'll do that soon. Graveworm, that would be awesome if you found a way to the Spring Ball; it would bypass this entire dilemma as well. If you do happen to get in touch with Michael, could you also ask him what his "platform yank" trick was? It was the only one he listed that he didn't get to in his WIP (I think), and I have no idea what it could be referring to.

The Worm-Boss in Maridia is called "Botwoon". I think we should use the official names of them to avoid confusion. Good luck to you, JXQ with this very challenging project.

Botwoon = Japanese. Dragon Worm = European/american. But as some people think that japanese is 10x cooler, you might wanna use that.
