Upcoming? Yay. I always thought something could be done with that missile upgrade. Keep this going and we might see another in-game minute shaved off, which everyone's saying is impossible, but eh.

Hey, not everyone — I was always saying it was possible. :P Saturn, what the hell did you just do with Draygon? Other than having two seconds easily knocked off JXQ's fight, you just badly pwned the damn fish. :D

More than 4 seconds actually. Draygon is the only boss who is vulnerable to Super Jumps. A Super Jump does 150 points damage per frame on Draygon. With optimal position (like in the movie) you can hit him for 15 frames that way, which is 2250 damage per jump (4500 for both). The other 1500 were taken out with a 900 damage Wave-PB charge and 600 from 2 Super Missiles. Not sure if this is the most optimal way, but I didn't bother to test more exactly for now.

Hmm, right, I haven't counted the time it takes the doors to unlock at first. That's even better, though.

Thanks for the smv's Saturn! <3 I'm really happy that Draygon can be further humiliated. And yes, Super Metroid 100% v2 is on the horizon, just after these Sonic runs. For the record, I don't expect an in-game improvement by enough to change the minute mark...but that'd be really neat :D

Is anyone working on/thinking about doing an alternate 14%, ie taking Speed Booster instead of Ice Beam?

Is that possible? I can't imagine having enough power bombs to kill all those Metroids in Tourain. Then again, maybe I should watch the current 14% run before opening my big mouth. (I only watched the 100% run)
Signature under contruction, still.

I thought about it when planning my possible upcoming 14% run, and no, it definitely wasn't faster to go with Speed Booster instead of Ice Beam. Not only some bosses (especially Ridley and Mother Brain) would be about 1.5x slower, but killing metroids without Ice Beam will definitely be a torture to the viewer. However, I also tried skipping the Gravity Suit (the least mandatory item in the low% set), and was only a single bit out of success. Inability to skip it was 100% confirmed with both math and empirical tests, but I was really close to skipping it. So the low% route stays pretty much the same.

I've been meaning to ask about the mechanics of Speed vs. Ice over at Metroid 2002, but I keep forgetting. Are the Metroids not killed by the blue suit, unlike every other creature? I know it would probably be slower, but could it be published as a demo?

Even if you were to do Speed Boots 14%, you wouldn't need the Blue Suit because of the Super Short Charge

yes, the whole point is that you diagonaly spark into the the zebetite wall under the platform, then get a damage boost from the zebetite

I can't figure out how to do the arm pumping trick. I have turbo set up for L and it doesn't increase my speed. I guess my question is how many frames are supposed to be in between each arm pump?

Having it on 30 Hz turbo is enough for full speed. The speed increase is exactly 1 pixel/frame.

What do you mean, isn't working? Take a RAM monitoring utility and compare your horizontal pixel positions with and without pumping.

Uhh… What hatches do you mean, the metal ones (like escaping Torizo)? If not, then could you please record a short smv depicting what you are trying to do?

the metal hatches that close as you run towards them. JXQ got through them with the arm pumping trick, i can't. I can't send you an smv, for i use zsnes. if you want a zmv, i could accomodate.

Maybe the turbo isn't 30 Hz? Use frame advance.

Oh, I think I get it. You mean those metal gates (not hatches), like the ones on the crumble bridge just before the early Super Missiles in Brinstar, right?

Then give me your .zmv and a version of ZSNES to use to watch it.
