No, because with an any%, it will be as fast as possible. Fighting no bosses (probably) where as 9% has to fight every boss.

Actually, my opinion is that a NBMB kejardon-run would be "the best of both worlds", since it would be faster than a normal any%, will have less items than a normal low%, will showcase the X-ray glitch and will skip all boss fights on top of that. How many items will it take is largely irrelevant as long as the amount is lower than a normal low%. Fastest completion should be the primary goal, imo.

Wait, then why not just replace the current any% run with the NBMB run?

Thanks.

Because it has way too little entertainment value compared to the proper run. It's like taking everything that makes Super Metroid a cool game to both play and run, and throwing it out of the window.

I'd still like to see it, considering I value time over entertainment.

Here you go: http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/download.php?id=1438 This is basically everything the NBMB run is, minus the optimization. (Also, you need (E) ROM to play it back.)

Hmm, it should be an SMV, actually, but here's the post: http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6016

laughing_gas, The kejardon run is a severely glitched up mess of a run. It is comparable to the Zelda 2 glitch run, the Zelda 3 glitch run, the Zelda 4 glitch, all of which fall into a separate category than the any% run. It eliminates a huge portion of the actual game. Even though it would be by far the fastest run possible, the severe glitches take it into a totally different category.

Yes, I realize that ... but still, such heavily glitched runs hold a certain allure for me.

Might as well put my own two cents in, I guess... I think that at least a 9% run (which kills the four bosses guarding Tourian) would be a good run to watch. The Mother Brain fight is unavoidably slow and tiresome with low percent, and that's basically all the 9% run skips. Ridley is the second longest fight, and there you still have a number of missiles, supers, and powerbombs to use to speed the fight up, as well as lots of jumping around and dodging Ridley's attacks. The only real drawback to a 9% run is getting the Gravity Suit, which takes a lot of horizontal bomb jumping. Though, I had an idea related to that that I've never been able to pull off... It was never useful anywhere else, but it might speed that room up for a 9% run. I don't think watching a 10% NBMB run would be very interesting. 1/2 of the run would just be watching Samus travel up through the 15 screens to get to Tourian. It might be interesting to learn it's possible, but it's just not entertaining to watch. anyways, an idea I've had: If you've bombjumped a lot, you might've noticed that you can bomb jump 'walk' along a roof, where you spam bombs as fast as you can lay them, and move a few pixels every bomb. The only time I've been able to start this is when I can start bomb jumping within a few blocks of the roof though - I've never managed to bomb jump up from below, and then start walking along the roof. If it's possible, it would be faster and probably a bit more interesting way to get the Gravity Suit in a 9% run. and wow. I have a run named after me. o_O

That's a script action; no damage. ... it just dawned on me I know way too much about SM.
It took THAT to make you realize?

I've actually never seen Horizontal bomb jumping in SM. I guess skipping the WS lake missile tank or getting to Gravity Suit by horizontal bomb jumping would be quite like Rio Room 9% TAS in ZM, no? I think the run should be called "MetroidElitest run".

holy shit I just watched that 13% run....laughing gas you will not be disappointed! although it took a while for him to get into tourian using the x-ray glitch the movie gets interesting after enterting glitched tourian...
I like stuff...

Just so you know, I've made another major overhaul to the Super Metroid Tricks. The content is now much better grouped, there's a new tab with the relevant forum threads, a LOT of new demos*, explanations and such, and some new sections/subsections. What's most funny is the fact that, even though I wrote about 200 lines of new content during the last two weeks, I barely fulfilled the TODOs I wrote myself some time ago (see the "TODO" tab on the page). So there's much more yet to come. * — Doesn't mean we don't need more. It's actually quite the opposite: the more text there is, the more demos we need to illustrate it. I encourage hero of the day, evilchen, P.JBoy, Tonski and others to record good examples for the things on that page that lack a [proper] demonstration. The guidelines to follow: 1) it should showcase the subject of the demonstration in its entirety; 2) it should look representative enough not to cause dumb questions. Good examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Post the demos here or PM them to me, and I will add them to the page.

Horizontal platforms thinner than a full block can be passed through simply by jumping straight up through them if the vertical speed is sufficient. do you mean this? http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5732/horizontal%20cross.smv

Well, yes and no. :) It isn't quite the same thing, although the pass-thru collision abuse with shinespark happens for that same reason I stated as well. I think doing it without a spark would be far more representative. I'm not 100% sure there are thin platforms low enough from the ground to allow such thing to happen in Super Metroid (there is a lot of those in SMR, though), but freezing very vertically short enemies (slimes in Maridia?) should help.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5734/horizontal%20cross.smv shows what happens when you are too slow(if you dont kneel the speed is too slow) - and the cross if you are fast enough you meaned something like that? can't imagine anything else btw: hows your run going? i really want too see it :)! or tests for it(if you dont want them public you are welcome to pm me hehehe ;) )

Kneeling doesn't really increase the speed, it only places Samus higher (=in the ceiling) initially… Seems like the jump power just isn't enough for that to work in plain SM. :\ I'll add the shinespark demo, though. My run is currently trying to gather the 5 missiles I spent on Torizo's door back in as low time as possible. I'll release a new WIP when I will reach Super Missiles. The third and final public WIP will be released once I reach the Brinstar-Norfair elevator. Also, go TOC bloat: 2006-12-31 vs. 2007-05-27.

Isn't Waterball a bit redundant with Morph Ball Bounce? They can probably be combined into one section, unless I'm mistaken and the mechanisms are different...
<Zurreco> if so called professional players cant adapt to every playing field, theyre obviously not that great
