Like they do on scenereleases... Why not do that? It'd be pretty useful if you could read author's comments, rerecords count, filename of the ROM used, etc, without having to come to the site again. Maybe it could also help with traffic issues. It'd be like 5~10kb each file and it'd be included in the zip file. How about doing that? It's easy and saves time (without having to take damage from it)

hmm... you can add comments to the zip files. there's no need for an extra file.

But its not done at this point, is it? If so, I don't know how to see those comments on the .zip file.

Well, WinRAR displays the comments (if available) by default. I don't know what happens with other archivers. all I know is 7-zip show only its own comments.

I would find it a nuisance. Hard drive clutter. If people really want to see the submission text, they can just surf there. How often does that need actually arise?

Why would we need to include that? It's just one more reason for someone to get it from a secondary source, which is suck. If someone doesn't want to go to the problem of reading up on the comments or run specs, that is their problem. No need to force everyone else to delete a file everytime something is published.

Bingo. NFO files are pointless when the submission text is already around for everyone to see. Also, NFO files are pointless period, because anyone who wants to read them has to rename them to TXT, the only reason the cracking and/or demo scenes still use them is because of tradition.

Or you could download a 'proper NFO viewer', or like... set your OS to open it with a text editor by default. Not that I think including an NFO is a good idea.

But z2 requires you to have a text file in the zip file!

Well, all you want is some additional information about the run. Maybe the emulator-patching coders could make an additional space for the submission text in the movie file.

Or, if you really like the info that the comments gives, you can just save that page as an htm for each run.

In Windows, NFO is actually a recognized extension -- for "MSinfo document" a filetype which contains system information in a nontext format. So that's not really a good solution.

ok, maybe not an NFO, but a "readme.txt" or something

Nobody uses "MSinfo documents" ever, so it's actually a perfectly fine solution. I, however, just right-click -> open with-> notepad.

Just make the "Author's comment" box editable in the input file (.smv, etc). Also, in a .smv's case, you are already shown re-record counts, ROM used and various other semi-useful information. I'd say an editable comment box is the only thing missing to you seem to be asking for.

What about adding NFO file with published TAS avi over Bit Torrent?

No, it would create to much clutter.

I think you're missing the point here. It's not practical to double the amount of files being thrown around on the site just to save a very small group of people from having to look it up on their own. If you want .nfo files with each of the movies, make it yourself and distribute them on a demand-basis.

I see no need for such "nfo" mechanism. Most people, who download from this site, download the torrent file. They appreciate it if it starts downloading right away, instead of launching a ZIP manager, so more files cannot be attached there. Having a separate txt file downloadable is pointless as all the relevant text is already represented on the page. And putting the txt into the zip that has the FCM, M64, etc… well, it could technically put the submission text there automatically, but I don't quite see the need. The people who download the emulator movie file already know what it's about (those who don't know how to use emulators, won't download the file), so it needs no explanation. Besides, the nfo/txt files are often considered annoyances because they're clutter that just calls to being deleted ― similar to advertisements send in between of pages of a magazine.

no need to put a text file into the zip with the inputs file : all the informations are already on the submission's page. same thing with the movie : the movie's page has it all. in both cases, you know what you download and you're supposed to know what you do with it. besides, the movie file already have subtitles incrusted : that's what they're here for, show additional info. if some is missing, it is the right place to add it to/ about zips : most archiving tools automatically open the "file_id.diz" (or readme.txt) file when the archive is open. torrents can bundle several files too, but frankly, who would want to have a directory filled with twice the number of files ( readme_(1)_.txt... readme_(354)_.txt... j/k) when half of it would only be opened once ?

The best/simplier nfo viewer is the "Damn NFO Viewer", absolutely. Well, I don't know if everyone is like me, but I always read the comments on published movies from all the movies I watch, even if they are those 300 lines comments, and it'd be much easier for me, at least, if I had how to read those huge submission comments without having to come to the site and look for the submission's page again.

I always read the submission comments on videos I watch, but I don't see the problem in having to find the submission page, it's always linked from the published movie page, which is easy enough to find again if you just remember the name of the game, and the system it's for.

i don't want to go against disregarding the fact that all the info you would find in the zip file is on the site but I would like to see nfo files packed with the torrents... it's just cooler. gives each submitter their own identity.
