  8. Play around during waiting time
  9. Plays at hardest level
  10. Entertaining as possible
  11. No damage and no death
Finally done!! Took almost 3 months to make this run! I totally agree with Highness when he wrote back then in his submission-text, that this game is one of the hardest games ever made! I had nothing to do one day so I clicked around in this site, checked out some movies and
I thought, "Hey! Why not improve any movie, which is published?" and after I checked out Highness movie here, I thought that this could be a good movie to improve! But before I started I wanted Highness permission. I could have done this movie without asking him, but because I'm so polite, I asked if he had any plans on making a run of Toki, but if he doesn't have any plans on do a run, then I could do it!
Ok! Now, let's talk about the movie, shall we?
For starters, I use the same rom as Highness for the same reason he wrote: because not everybody will understand japanese. Then I recorded it in gens9j! After some stages (in stage 6) I discover the latest emulator gens_movie_9Z and start to continue the recording with that emulator instead! I use extremely much luck manipulation, so that the movie will be fast as possible and entertaining as possible. I don't really get why Highness wrote in his submission-text that he used programming errors, but I THINK I use that at one place: stage 6, when
I get the hi-jump boots. But I'm not sure! Okay I'll explain more of the stuff I used in this movie: no death or damage. Yes, belive it or not but I'm not taking damage in this movie, not a single time, I'm not dying in this movie either. And the sad thing is that you can't take damage to save time, cause damage=death. So I fake death (you can also say play with death if that sounds more correct), or what I should call it! That means that it looks like I'm touching things (that kill you at once normally) but it doesn't! :P
So you can call it an illusion or phony-death or something! ;)
I use (when possible) enemies for platforms! =)
Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like! When there is a higher platform I normally can't reach, I use this fantastic technique! I use good timing, and then I jump on enemies to reach platforms and I save time on this as well! Oh! I almost forgot: hurting and killing enemies
for fun! Yes, I hurt/kill enemies often during waiting time, but also when I'm in action sometimes! When I'm not finding any enemy to hurt or kill during the waiting time I usually wobbling to make the movie less boring, but maybe I'm doing that to often? If so, I have to make a new run of this game in the future, where I'm not doing that so often! And last but not least: plays at the hardest level!
Tools:
  • Plenty of re-records (54554(!!)
  • Framecounter
  • Frameadvance
  • gens9j and gens_movie_9Z
That's it I think! Enjoy the movie! =)
Note: I know it is flaws in the movie, but the positive moments overcome the flaws!
Thanks to everyone who joined the discussion at the topic! Special thanks to?... Guess who? The guy which I have been mention almost every time: Highness!! =)

You should enter initials at the end of the movie so that it reaches the "THE END" screen. It's a minor change, so you don't need to cancel this (PM it Bisqwit or whatever people do to update a movie file).

o.0 hard mode is not fit for human players... how can it even be beaten with so many enemies around :S Hitbox detection in this game is laughable; going through enemies without taking damage ftw! The AI in this game got me laughing too... their primitive brains sure suit the theme of this game, especially those fishes in stage 3 haha. My only complain is that in certain places you waste your shots unnecessarily (especially against bosses). But the improvement is still very significant. Definite yes vote from me...

I had watched most of it already. The flying monkey-infested black level was very entertaining. Stage 8 boss looked like it could have been done faster. Why jump in the beginning? You lose a lot of time when you could have been shooting. In the next stage you lost time waiting for the flying monkeys. You missed one of the spikes coming out of the ground several times. (no 'ting' sound) You overjumped the goal in the mine cart stage by a lot. Next level, you missed going under a spiked pole twice in a row because you were bouncing on an enemy. Couldn't you have killed him before? It's a lot better than the previous one... I think. I guess Highness's version includes the initials. So this one is about 1.5 minutes faster at least.

Bummer! I have never watched the credits in Highness movie, so I didn't know anything about the highscore list! That's why I did stop the movie a long time before the credits shows up! Good thing you report this Nitsuja! But I don't have to cancel this one- but I don't know? =/ Maybe I should do a TAS with Highness if he still think that's a good idea! If so, I should cancel this submission, cause the movie wasn't perfect played anyway! I miss the crawling thing to reach the exits a lot of times, and I could improve the boss fight at Membrane also! =/

I know. I'm not happy about that either. I will fix that in the next run! =)

With 6 YESes, I guess the next submission should be automatically accepted by default haha. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to the next one... btw, you you be cancelling this?

Thanks for your enthusiasm over this run xoinx! =) Yes, I did cancel the submission cause it had flaws anyway! ;/ I will start a new TAS with Highness (if he still thinks it's a good idea) and you see the progress here, and I will post a WIP soon!
