I've been wanting to do this for a long time but, I felt that the author of the 120 star run would probally do this in the end, but after a long discussion on IRC he had no objection to me doing it and so I started the very next day.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Takes Damage to save time
  • Ignores semi-important goals
Thanks to everyone on the SM64 board including nesrocks, Robert_z, laughing gas,silent_slayers and to a certain extent RIkku as his previous unsubmitted TAS showed some great strategies that I would otherwise would have not come up with at the time.
I was excited about doing this becuase with all the glitches available I could really do the whole thing completely out of order and being 3D would allow me to me more expressive in my actions as opposed to the roboticness of 2D.
Over the course of the game I reckon the choice of stars saved 4 seconds, the new star glitches and shortcuts saved 15 seconds and the lobby glitch saved 6 seconds, while the rest of the time came through better optimization. This was possible because of Nitsuja's virtual analougue stick which I strongly argue gives far more precision that what a controller would give espeacally for optimal turns and long jumps as well as moving at hyper speed.

Definitely yes, and I love how you pulled off the jump near the beginning of Bowser 3 without slowing up.

Very good run. Nice discovery grabbing Bowers tail that quick. I enjoyed all the Bowser stages the most. Voted naturally yes. Edit: Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention. I also liked your camera angle at Bowser stage.

Loved it. Your submission text forgot to mention that sometimes you used some nonstandard camera angles in some levels to reduce lag, also gaining several seconds. Voting yes obviously.

Great, finished already? Will watch later when I have time to really enjoy it. This seems to be a great day for TASes and also a great week for N64 TASes.

So, the day has finally come! I thought we would have to wait a lot longer than this to get a new 16 star run. I've been following the WIPs since the beginning, but I just watched this from beginning to end and it is truly awesome. I love the running along the edge of the lava pit in Bowser 2, and jumping over Bowser's head in Bowser 3. Excellent job. Easy Yes vote.

Pretty neat, but did you not pick up the last star?

Why should he? It's just a waste of time.

Reason behind leaving the star: it takes 15 stars in order to get MIPS(the rabbit) to appear. MIPS can be used to glitch through the star door (that normally requires 30 stars to get through). You cannot get to Bowser2, however, until you climb aboard Bowser's sub and get that star - hence the need for getting 16 stars. After that it's just glitching to Bowser 3 and beating Bowser 3 to end the game.

No, I'm referring to the final star after beating Bowser 3, the one which causes the game to end.

Actually, he does get that star. At least he did when I just finished watching it. Totally a yes vote, loved bowser 2 :)

AKA, From what I understand reading the last few responses, you ended controller input before the last star was grabbed? Is this true?

Yes thats true but its impossible to prevent completion of the game because mario is doing a butt stomp, I'm pretty sure the previous movie did that as well.

How did CtrlAltDestroy (apparently) find that the game didn't end then?

For me, After knocking out Bowser, Mario runs around on the floor for a while, the star appears right above him, and then he just stands there. But if it works for everyone else, it's probably just my ROM.
