I've only played EBA, but I've heard these 2 have similarities gameplay-wise. Since DS emulation is a little crappy, we can discuss what kind of run could be done. Since I haven't played Ouendan, I can give EBA recommendations. Probably a full completion run, aiming for getting 300s on every beat and max points on the spinners. A run of Breezin', Cruisin', Sweatin', and Hard ROCK! difficulties with max points on every level (going back to the other difficulties to complete the songs that get unlocked on the later difficulties), starting at Walkie Talkie Man on Cruisin' and ending at the final shown image on after Jumpin' Jack Flash on Hard ROCK!. Map navigation would have to be very swift.

Would a run on this game even be practical? All the songs are of fixed length and you can't really make it go any faster.

People didn't seem to like my Rhythm Tengoku suggestion, either.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

I'm not sure if it will work. It's like trying to do a speedrun on Guitar Hero, only the selection is fast but the gameplay is just getting the right notes all the time (I think?)

You run into similar problems with, say, DDR. I guess a tool-assisted DDR game would involve robots? That'd be an interesting project, actually - make a robot that can play DDR.

An interestering TAS could be: Starts directly from Hard or Insane and achieves the MINIMUM possible score in each song, while still doing a perfect run and finishing the song. (ie: no misses) That is, if it's possible to do such a thing (the game has a cruel drain rate on insane for example)

omg necro If this game were to be ran, there'd pretty much need to be the choice of speed or entertainment. The two are almost mutually exclusive in this game. If you're aiming for speed, you'll need to do bad at the game, because in the course of even a normal run, you're going to get an upgrade to your rank. If you can avoid Soldier of Song, it saves a fair chunk of time. I just tried doing a nonTASed low% run and got the rank right before the last level pair, getting Cs and Ds on each level and completely avoiding all spinners. However, with games like this, the only thing that makes sense to me is to get 100% on each course. It'd be more entertaining, in my opinion. Though, it'd be interesting to have a run that demonstrated all of the animations that happen through each course on the top screen. You wouldn't be able to all of the intermission scenes in a single run of a course, though. I just figured I'd mention what I see as the options for such a run. *shrug*

Well, here's a run that I'd like to see: I want a low score run on Hard ROCK! difficulty, that means the lowest score possible while still beating the game. Let's face it, a high score run is not impressive from a TAS perspective. With slowdown and savestates, getting all 300s and maxing out the spinners is trivial. I'm making one for myself, and the only time I'm using frame advance is on the spinners. It's still not that hard. Now getting the lowest score possible while still surviving, that would take thought and planning, and would be a great challenge. So I know it won't be published, but I'd still like to see it, and I have a savestate which puts you on the menu screen with the difficulty and three bonus levels unlocked, if anybody is willing to make an attempt or discuss this.

While this doesn't apply to EBA, I thought of a way that a rhythm game playaround TAS could be made, but it first requires a game that does keysounding - e.g. when you hit the note determines when the sound is played, and you can hit notes while nothing is there to create sounds. So, something like DJ MAX, IIDX and Pop'n music. What the TAS would do is deliberately mistime, omit and add in notes to create a new song. You'd have to work with what samples you can access at any moment (hitting a column when no note is in it hits the last note that played in it, so you can gain/lose access to samples), so it would be an interesting technical feat.
