Sorry, I'll use that from now on if it's better.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3656/Batman%20rough%20run%20%28UE%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv Gotham City Street is done, and we go straight into another auto scroller. I think pacifict is the way to go in the skies. The enemies are pretty sparse at first, but it does pick up. Also, when you go down, your hit box grows a lot. Luckily, this level is a lot shorter than the driving one. I think this may be the only point where taking damage in the game actually saves time. Usually it leads to lost momentum, but here, there's very little momentum to be lost. The boss is invincible when running with the swords. When I go through for real, I'll try to hit him three times the first time he jumps over my head. Can anyone help me with reading RAM? I open up RAM search, and all I see are numbers. Are there any values that are normally what you want to see, or easy ways to make sense out of it?

What values are you looking for? I don't know this game beyond what's been posted in this thread, but I don't see an obvious need for any particular RAM values. The idea behind a RAM search is that all of a game's state information is stored in RAM, so you can theoretically find out anything about the game's state by looking at the right combination of RAM values. The most common uses are optimizing your speed or subpixel position and maximizing boss damage, which may not be easily derived from the information on the screen but are relatively simple to find in RAM. To find a value, you do stuff that influences that value and look for something that's changed in the way you expected. If you're looking for boss hp, get to the boss fight and start a new search. Do some stuff that doesn't effect the boss and search for values that haven't changed. Hit the boss and look for values that decreased. Modify as needed and repeat. Please continue. The game has some slow parts but the music is great and the game offers some points of interest.

I just meant in general. I don't think I'll need it on this game that much, but there are a few games I'm planning on doing in the future where that will benefit me greatly. What about finding the NRG (is that right?) for luck manipulation? I'm not sure how exactly you can search for that, or know it you have the right values.

Well, it looks like not dying is actually faster than dying on level 2 Compare: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3681/Batman%20%28UE%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv and http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3683/Batman%20test%20file%28UE%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv The reason for this is you have to wait for the screen to center on Batman when he dies after using the shortcut before the game registers new input. I, however, still think the death route's funnier and more unexpected, so now I need to decide whether a speed/entertainment tradeoff is worth forty frames. Opinions? EDIT: Nevermind, I've decided. I'm going the non-death route. If you continue a little bit further on the death route, the screen scrolling becomes wonky and results in more lost frames. It's not worth that much.

The first boss fight looks good now. The level 2 shortcut was well done too. Great stuff. I'd say go on with the rest of the game.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3729/Batman%20%28UE%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv Well, here's the rest of level 2, at least. I tested the backwards jump in a few places. There were only two where it actually saved time: The shortcut that Aqfaq found and the place where the screen scrolls before the boss. I did find out that you can use it to prevent platforms from stopping you, though whether that will actually be utilized in the final run remains to be seen. I've hit a snag in my rough run because I'm about to go into the boss refights with only ten batarangs. Fighting bosses with only your fists makes it go very slow. I'm going to try to get as many batarangs as possible without losing time to make sure I have them when I get there. Total frames improvement: over 1000.

No complaints on level 2. Nice jumping.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3756/Batman%20%28UE%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv There's a lot of things I like about my new third level, as well as a few I don't like. I'm now about 2000 frames ahead of my practice run. Boss battles are better. The first half of the level is amazing. However, once I get to the top floor, a new chandelier which wasn't there in the practice run appears. Why? I don't know. Aqfaq, have you seen the driving level from the practice run? If so, what did you think of it.

Haha! Level 3 was super! About the chandeliers, just about anything may (or may not) have an effect on their behavior, I guess: - time (when you first see them) - Batman's position - other enemies (if you hit/kill some) - score - number of lives - number of items - pause I would probably continue with the next level myself.

It was okay. I have no ideas for that part. Good luck!

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3811/arkiandruski-batman-wip.gmv I just figured out how to rename my files on micro-storage. I posted these three levels together because not much happens in any of them. I tried a few different routes in the platform section, and the one I use is just a few frames faster. The theme for the flying stage is missile slalom. That helicopter has a ridiculously small hit-box for the size of the sprite.

The driving section is boring, but it's not your fault. I liked the two other levels.

Thanks. I tried to keep the action up with close calls and such, but there's not that much you can do. Another problem with that level is it's just too damn long. Oh well. Gotham Cathedral is next.

Boss refights done. Pretty straightforward, I think.

Awesome, I think! And the shortcut in the end was surprising.

Done Enjoy the ending. What there is of it, at least. Joker never really had a chance. What do you think Aqfaq (or Ideamagnate if he's still around)? Is it submission worthy?

I like that movie a lot. It's definitely better than my first TAS. Here are some random things that came into my mind: - The speed-trick is great and you use it very precisely through the whole movie. - Wall-jumping is the best thing in the movie. - I have a feeling that some of the boss fights may be improvable with better strategies, although I have no idea what those strategies might be. - The auto-scrolling levels are boring. - The level 2 shortcut might be faster with a wall-jump instead of the hook. :) - Using death as a shortcut was surprising. - You even took damage to save time. This movie is quite versatile. I think it's worth submitting.

It has improved a great deal since the version I saw (namely, wall jumping and wall passing). The autoscrollers are not that interesting of course, but it's quite possible people will think it's okay overall.

Go ahead and submit this. The gameplay is very entertaining and contains a couple of well-placed tricks to keep it interesting. The autoscrollers are too long, but the music is excellent and keeps them from being too boring. I don't think this will have much trouble getting accepted.

So I tested this, and it worked, but I can't get any hexeditors to even open. I think I'll submit the file anyway, and if I figure out a way to add that in, I will.

It's up Now I just have to sit and wait while people express opinions on my run. Am I allowed to vote yes just so I can see the poll results?

Underneath the poll, there is a button that says "View Results". Click on that if you want to see the results. On a somewhat related note: Are you allowed to vote on your own submissions?

It's allowed. I personally don't see anything wrong with it but most submitters don't do it (or wait until a decision has been rendered).
