• FCEU 0.98.16.
  • This movie is flawless. It can't hardly be beaten.
  • ~8.833333333333333333333333333333333333 seconds faster.
  • Faster because of that 5-2 pipe glitch.
  • Faster because Luigi takes 1 power-up at different place.
  • Faster because 5 frames gained at 8-4.
  • Shows oddities.
  • Manipulates ⚜ and ¢.
  • FLAWLESS VICTORY
By oddities I meant, the vine sound that can be heard twice at 4-1. At 4-2, when I kill the last koopa-paratroopa the sounds of the pole has been removed and in 4-3, a fireball is bouncing in a pit.

Truncated: Accepted as an improvement to the previous run. My suggestion for screenshot is 26379, or possibly around 22312.

So enough of this off topic ness. Who liked that fancy pipe entrance? Edit: I cleaned up this thread. Please stick to discussing this movie and not other things. Other kinds of posts will be sent elsewhere.

Off course an impressive yes Vote Phi is doing gr8 TAS for FDS version of SMB. And it's one of my favorite Game.

Obvious YES vote for improving the existing run. Some of the glitch abuse was quite humorous, especially the collision abuse in 8-4. I do have to comment, however, that the submission text is a bit too egotistical for my taste.

Now if we could just get a 100% version that does all worlds, even 9 and A-D. (Voting yes. Personally, I'm amused at his use of "Perfect". He's rather confident, but until someone proves him wrong, he's right)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume he meant the FDS version? Does the FDS version have worlds 9 and A-D?

Sure it does. But is the FDS version that much different (besides the graphics) that it would justify having two movies of what would otherwise be the same run through the same game? We should probably move this discussion to another thread so we don't get off-topic here.

Is there some reason this movie hasn't been accepted yet?

It's probably because everyone hates Mario. Movies like this usually take 8 or 9 months to get published. The fact that it was submitted this year is a detriment.

For me, it's because I haven't found the ROM, which is reportedly "Title.fds". Honestly, I have wanted to watch and judge it, but can't find the correct FDS image. I was hoping someone else could step in.

I don't have the correct FDS image either. The checksum is the same as the old Luigi run but completely different from whatever Phil used. And I have no idea where "Title.fds" comes from. Yet, using the different FDS image, the movie still synced perfectly, so I don't know what the difference could be...

Actually, after I wrote that, the FDS rom suddenly appeared in my mailbox, magically. So I will judge this on the weekend at the latest.

The internet is obviously a treasure-trove of magic and FDS ROM images.

Publishing the movie is a lot harder than just setting a flag to staus:accepted. The encoders here do a lot of work to get quality videos at decent file sizes for publication. I'd go as far as to say that they're the most underrated contributors to the site. Good question though. : P

ABSOLUTELY. Thanks to everyone who encodes, so that people (like me before I joined) can watch the AVIs and be amazed. It doesn't get said enough, but bravo, and thanks agian.

I laughed out loud at the end of 4-2 when you killed the koopa almost as an afterthought right before you grabbed the flag. Very entertaining run, you have my yes vote (or would if I stopped lurking).

It requires upwards motion, I think. There's not enough room to do that. You cannot reach that wall while being upwards motion. (Well, with walljump you could, but then you'd have insufficient horizontal motion, and it'd be slower in any case.) You could however, probably, land 16 pixels lower, on the bottom of the upper left corner brick, in the same way as was done at timer=314 in the same stage, but I doubt that would save time…

Walljumping requires stopping as you go through the wall, so it would be slower in any case.
